The BnB and staff are exceptional and make a stay in Naples comfortable, friendly and safe. Breakfast is excellent and the rooms are spacious, modern and well equipped.

Thank you Umberto and staff for making our stay memorable.

We have no hesitation in recommending Spaccanapoli to anyone at all.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper ask for the room looking into the courtyard as the street side room is no...

While this place may not look like much from streetside, as soon as you enter you'll find a clean, nicely decorated bed & breakfast with a friendly, enthusiastic staff. The room was on the cozy side, but very clean and comfortable. The breakfast room is elegant with a good variety of meats, breads and fruit, and an extremely gracious host ready to get you an espresso. While I heard some reputation of the Spanish Quarter as being unsafe, my friend and I always felt very comfortable in the area and enjoyed the local restaurants and shops a great deal (of course you should always take basic precautions in any city going abroad!). The staff were consistently helpful without being overbearing.

(Only one negative I must mention--there was a fairly noisy argument right above my room one of the nights--I'm not really sure who lives in the apartment above the B&B, but it seemed to be a one-time rare occurrence. Hence the lower star rating for sleep quality)

Overall I would recommend this place in a heartbeat to anyone visiting Naples and who wants a true 'Naples experience' right in the heart of the old city.

This is the first time I've taken the time to write a review - I had to as the Spaccanapoli was delightful and deserves high praise. As another traveller said, the entrance is not that promising but once inside, the place is clean, modern, stylish, comfortable, friendly - just perfect really. The location is great - in the fun old part of Naples and easy walking distance to everything in the centre and the metro. Umberto and Fabrizio could not have been more welcoming or helpful with absolutely everything - restaurant/shops/sightseeing/travel etc etc. Nothing was too much trouble - we felt so welcome and looked after - such a pleasure. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Despite a less than promising entrance Spaccanapoli is a gem. Probably the friendliest and most efficient place that we have stayed in in Italy. Cannot recommend it too highly. Lots of information on good places to eat and historical sites to visit. Essential to visit the Archaeological Museum, the San Severo chapel, the Galleria Umberto (larger than the one in Milan and much cheaper), the Vomero and the Castel dell'ovo. Despite all the grave warnings on most websites about Naples, we did not feel threatened in any way. The journey to/ from Sorrento is more pleasant by boat although slightly dearer than Circumvesuviana.

Room Tip: Try to get a balcony overlooking the street - the chaotic scooter driving is more entertaining than...

First of all, this place is amazing: clean, comfortable and inexpensive. Although the rooms themselves are modern with many amenities, the building dates back to the 17th century. Best of all, the staff (Adrianna and Fabrizio) are helpful and kind. I would stay here again although it was a shock at first glance.

BUT... if you are skittish, this is probably not the place for you.

Even our seasoned cab driver could not find this B&B and had to ask for directions. As he drove off, I asked myself, "What have I done?" The neighborhood is sketchy and the entrance features a huge (locked) wrought iron gate which opens into a dark entry with grafitti on the walls. A bit like standing in front of a prison gate. Once you ring the bell, however, Adrianna puts you right at ease.

This is the "real" Naples, with piles of trash on the street and crazy drivers and lots of shouting and color and activity. The Spanish Quarter, where the B&B is located, is a genuine neighborhood with students and families, not a tourist area. Our room had a balcony overlooking the street where we watched the traffic and mothers with strollers and groups of teenagers smoking and hanging out. Our inside balcony overlooked the back of apartments, with kids kicking balls around and mothers hanging out the laundry.

It's only a short walk to the main drag, Via Toledo (the locals call it Via Roma), which is in itself an adventure. Lots of authentic small restaurants abound. I was offered a complimentary "grappa" at the end of my meal since it was our last day in Italy, and it definitely lives up to its reputation as fire water.

Be careful walking around. Keep your purse close. Don't get paranoid; just remember you are in a big, noisy, vibrant city in a foreign country.

If you have a sense of adventure, you'll love this place. If not, keep looking.

Room Tip: It's a pretty noisy neighborhood, even during the night. Ask for the quietest room if you are a...

We loved this place last year, and spent a total of five nights this time around. Adrianna and Umberto are fantastic hosts, genial and thoughtful, who greet their guests with refreshments and provide excellent sightseeing and dining information. They made us feel right at home, and sent us to eat at Nanella, Valu and Hosteria Toledo, all great meals. The B&B is ultra modern and spotless, the rooms are stylish, comfortable and quiet, the antithesis to bustling, roaring Naples. Do not be frightened of the neighborhood, just be sensible as you would be in any big city. The people of Naples are very warm and friendly. Look beyond the grit and grime and there is incredible beauty all around. There is music everywhere! The city is an open-air art and architecture museum. There are views, indescribably delicious food, history and mystery to be found in grand Naples. Go off the beaten track and get a little lost. You might find something truly amazing.

We wanted to experience the "real" Italy and Spaccanapoli helped us do just that. Adriana spent time each morning with us helping us plan where to go, where to eat, and how to get places easily. The modern suite is huge, clean and has great decor with a large tv, lots of storage space and all of your bathroom amenities and was a great place to return to each evening. Definitely the place to stay if you want something non touristy and although the narrow busy street might seem a little sketchy we never felt unsafe. Napoli is a great city with great food and loads of character and spaccanapoli helps you make the most of it.
