Fantastic statues, Farnese Bull, Erotic room! Roman as well as Greek history. Even a statue of Nike, Godess of Victory, although headless!

Most of Pompeii's treasures have been removed to this museum to conserve them. The displays are well laid out and detailed. The frescos are amazing. I went to the museum before I visited Pompeii and I am so pleased I did. I spent hours at the museum and did not see it all. So if you really want to understand and appreciate Pompeii go here first.

The museum contains a vast collection of artifacts from Pompeii, Herculaneum, villages and villas in the Vesuvius area. Plus items from other regions in Italy. Many of the pieces were discovered in the 1700s, and retained as part if royal collections, viewing not open to the public. The wall paintings and mosaic portraits from pompeii and Herculaneum are exquisite. The artifacts provide a very clear vision of the culture and daily life up to 79ad.
