Owner description: This museum has all of the interesting finds from Pompeii and Herculaneum, both doomed cities after the violent eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD.

Once frustrating thing about Pompeii and Herculaneum was that one would often see a sign that indicated that the mosaic or the wall painting in a building was in the Archaeological Museum in Naples.

So we spent an afternoon catching up to see all of the ancient paintings, mosaics and statuary when we got to Naples. It's a "don't miss" kind of location. It joins the beauty with the majesty and scale of Pompeii.

While Pompeii sets the scene for what the town would have looked like, many of the best treasures, artifacts, and mosaics have been removed and taken to the much safer place, the National Archaeological Museum. We could not believe just how many perfectly preserved artifacts from massive statues to floor mosaics were there. Absolutely amazing - a definite Must See!

Fantastic mosaics! The "secret room" is full of ancient erotica--you've been warned! Haha! Get to easily on the red line on the metro.

Very worthwhile if you have been to Pompeii, its the chance to see what was there originally.
Also enjoyed the Farnese collection. The secret room is an eye opener. The sculptures are huge and impressive and the mosaics are very detailed and easy to see up close.

If you are interested in Pompeii, Herculaneum, etc, you must visit to see the mosaics and wall paintings that were removed and placed here.
