“Excellent Hotel”
Reviewed May 10, 2014

Stayed at the Excelsior April 24 & 25, 2014 in a deluxe king room overlooking the bay of Naples. Room was large, bright, and sparkling clean with two sets of narrow french doors overlooking the bay that were truly soundproof and included exterior shades (controlled by a button on the interior wall) that totally blocked out sunlight for those who need a dark room. I could open the shades and doors for sea air. We were on the "first" floor (2nd for Americans) and with the doors open the street noise was there with chatty pedestrians on the seaside promenade but when the doors were closed (or open during the wee hours of the morning when the pedestrians were all home asleep) there was no noise from outside. No noise heard from other rooms. Wifi connection was free and fast, the best of our 14-night trip. Bed was very comfortable with nice linens, tables at each side of the bed and good reading lights. Bathroom was not huge (meaning no wasted space) but very comfortably sized to allow two to get ready for the day at the same time. Water pressure was good and water was hot.

Breakfast was served in a very large, sunny room overlooking the bay. Food quality and service were excellent. The fruit was absolutely beautiful and plentiful. Selection of hot egg and meat dishes along with cold cereals, yogurt, cured meats, cheeses, pastries, juices. The breakfast at the Excelsior was by far the most beautiful of any trip to Italy. A very elegant and wonderful way to start a day in Naples. Staff were warmly attentive but unobtrusive.

The hotel building is elegant and well-tended. Location is fantastic in a pedestrian-only area overlooking the water with several restaurants nearby. I noticed a very slight cigarette odor on entering the hotel the first day but not again and especially not in the room or other interior areas of the building.

Rooftop is spectacular and very large with tables and chairs set out in groups throughout the very large area with 180 degree views out over the bay. Service for evening cocktails was attentive and prices reasonable especially given the setting.

Would I go back? In a heartbeat. In fact, I would go back to Naples just to stay at the Excelsior. On our single full day in the city we walked as far as the Duomo and back with several stops in both directions and looked forward to returning to the elegant haven of the Excelsior at the end of the day.

This is an excellent and very comfortable luxury hotel. We had a very enjoyable 5-night stay in a spacious room with a balcony overlooking the Castel dell'Ovo. The breakfast buffet was excellent, including some outstanding pastry. We also had several other meals at the hotel, with excellent food. The bar and restaurant staff were very friendly and gracious. The concierge arranged several tours for us and provided excellent guides. The turndown service was somewhat erratic and the front desk staff quite formal, but overall we strongly recommend this hotel.

The Excélsior it's a luxury hotel located in the sea shore of Naples.
The hotel it's great and you won't be disappointed with the facilities. The service also it's great.
If you are going to stay in Naples this is the area to stay. There is a lot of great, trendy and nice restaurant with outdoors seating within the mile that the hotel is located facing the coast. If you prefer dine in the hotel there is a nice restaurant with great view of the bay in the rooftop.
The street in front of the hotel is for pedestrians only and you will find a lot of people walking and running.
Definitely one of the options in Naples.

Room Tip: Any room is great. Facing the sea.

After a pleasant drive from Rome we arrived at the Hotel Excelsior at about 1 o'clock. We had no problem with the doorman or anyone when checking in. (If you can drive in N Y C Naples is easy). As a matter of fact the Hotel and staff are Extremely professional .We where shown to our suite 418 which has views of Mt Vesuvius ,the bay of Naples, the entire peninsular of Sorrento And Castle l'ova and Capri. The suite had two full baths and was very well appointed. You must have a drink at the rooftop bar and meet Massimo who is delightful . Housekeeping had our room cleaned by the time we got back from breakfast . Which by the way the cafe americano was hot . If you go when the weather is warmer breakfast is in the rooftop restaurant . The entire staff did a wonderful job. We could not ask for anything more .

We loved the area that the hotel was in especially since we were a little leery of Naples in general. The hotel was spectacular and our room was beyond imagination. We were upgraded to a corner suite based on my husbands points within the Westin system. It was huge with four large windows a balcony in the room and the bathroom as well! The bath had a large shower and a separate extra large tub with jets. Breakfast was in a formal room downstairs with view of the bay of Naples. It had both hot and cold options with a large variety of fresh fruit, sweets and other options. The only thing we didn't appreciate was the coffee which we asked for "coffee americano", in every other hotel we received good strong coffee which we enjoyed but this was almost undrinkable. I would also agree with the comments about the doormen not being as attentive to the general tourist. Our driver had to go in and find someone to help with our bags even though we were the only ones arriving at that time. They did not go out of their way to open a door for you even though they were there.

Room Tip: Room 424 was beautiful, spacious with awesome views.

We visited Naples for my wife's birthday so that we could visit Pompei and Herculanium. Naples is not the cleanest city but the area of the hotel is lovely. We paid extra for a room that overlooked the sea and the yacht marina and were not disappointed. The hotel staff were extremely professional and helpful. Lots of Restaurants nearby so plenty to choose from.
Our only slight niggle was that Breakfast was always cold and we prefer scrambled egg and bacon to be hot.

Room Tip: Sea view room is a must

The Excelsior is a grand experience in early 20th Century elegance. Apart from an ideal location, the facility is very memorable. One example, be sure to walk up at least one flight of stairs. If you can get a room looking over the harbor the view is breathtaking.
