Eurostars Hotel Excelsior
Ranked #16 of 185 Hotels in Naples
Certificate of Excellence

The Excelsior is an excellent hotel, with great service in a wonderful location.
I am a Starwood platinum member and was therefore upgraded to a junior suite. The check in was smooth and quick and the receptionist came up with us to show us the room. Although it was on the first floor, we had little noise from the street. Room was nice, clean and airy. View was very nice unto the sea and the Castel dell'Ovo. Washroom was comfortable and fairly big. The only problem there was inconsistent hot water supply.
The internet service offered free of charge to platinum members is not great. Wifi reception was inconsistent and you constantly have to log in again after shutting down the computer. It seems however this is pretty constant in Italy.
Breakfast was included and served on the seventh floor terrace with view over the bay and the Castel. Offerings were varied and very good.
Staff in the hotel were all very helpful for information about the city and the area around Naples. Service was quick, efficient and polite.
Location of the hotel is great; it is within minutes of Imperial Naples and old Naples and very close to the port where boats can be boarded for Capri or Ischia. The area, particularly via Partenope along the sea, is safe and has plenty of decent restaurants. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and I would happily visit again.

Staying in Naples for 31 days in March/April 2011, I was blown away by the front desk staff's help with EVERYTHING (from directions/restaurant/shopping advice/etc). I never ate in the hotel restaurant, but the breakfast that was included in the room price was absolutely amazing! 15 cuts of fresh fruit, bacon, eggs, pastries galore, yogurt, meats, cheeses, and of course espressos/cappuccinos to die for. The view from breakfast on the top floor was breathtaking w/ views of Mt Vesuvius, Castel dell Ovo and Capri.

The room was a corner room that was plenty spacious for one person, however it would be nice if the room cooled down below 22 degrees (Celsius)....I like it cool, but I'm used to this problem in Europe. Nice deep tub in the marble bathroom, with lots of counter space.
Loved this hotel, regardless of the nearly $200/night price tag. The gym/spa were apparently in the hotel next door (extra 10 Euro fee for the gym!) Also, as a heads up, the $25/night garage fee (valet at frong) if you have a car though. Yikes...more than I paid per day for the rental of the car.

Great location on the water, Via Partenope is a great seaside walking/jogging area that I liked to take advantage of in the late evening when the foot traffic died down. Lastly, not that the hotel can do anything about this, but as a traveller, it's good to know that the nearest Metro station (Amadeo) was a solid 20 minute walk (unless you're REALLY hustling). Or you can just grab a cab to get to the Metro for about 5-6 Euros.

This hotel is located right on the water. We checked in and went to our room. We looked straight out and saw the harbor and the sea. We looked to our left and saw Mt. Vesuvius. Our room was spacious and the hotel staff was very helpful. We were able to walk to the main square. Plenty of restaurants nearby. There are 2 - 3 higher end hotels right near this one, but I'm not really sure they're worth the money. Hotel Excelsior offered all the same amenities at about half the price.

The hotel is beautiful, our room was very spacious and amazing. The staff is very helpful and friendly, except for having forgotten our pillow/case in our room and not having been able to recover it, apparently it was not found where we left it (in our bed). Overall, wonderful stay

We stayed at the Excelsior in May this year and really enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was fantastic. We had a sea view room with a seating area which was really nice.

On the first day we received a free cake which was a nice touch. Breakfast was also very nice (including Prosecco!) and a full buffet. The hotel is in the nicest part of Naples. It's very conveniently located for the passenger boat terminal which is good for day trips to Capri etc, although it's quite a long way away from the train station (too far to walk but you can get a taxi for about 10 euros).

I stayed with my father at The Excelsior in Naples just three days ago, on the night of April 22nd. We took a train from Rome to Naples, which took just 1 hour and 10 minutes. Because my father uses a cane for walking, I did an extensive search of the hotels in Naples to find a suitable hotel in terms of location, view, style etc. This was definitely the right choice.

Hotel is located on Via Partenope which faces the sea. Perfect location if you want to take a nice walk or jog along the sea. The hotel upgraded us to a suite which had the best view of Vesuvius. My father was so pleased and I can not thank the hotel enough. There was a small ledge like balcony, amenities were top class - even a special fragranced water in the marble bathroom created exclusviely for the Excelsior. The room was very large with two twin beds. The bathroom had a jacuzzi and shower. Everything was just perfect in the room - from decor to comfort.

I had booked through starwoodhotels.com with a rate that included breakfast. Breakfast is served in an elegant ballroom like area. The breakfast consisted of : sweet pastries, variety of prosciutto and ham, bread, fruit, eggs, sausages but unfortunately one type of cheese - which was not very tasty. However the service by the waiters was top notch.
The Excelsior Naples has a very friendly staff - from housekeepers, to waitresses to receptionists.
The only regret I had was that I booked a tour through the hotel - not a good idea. I insisted on information regarding an open tour as I saw them go by but the receptionist had no idea if they existed in Naples. So we ended up buying a tour from private tour company and we were only 4 on the big bus. The guide was a very friendly young Italian lady however I would say definitely choose the open tour bus company. They have four lines from which you may choose from.
Small notes you may find worthwhile :
- do avoid the side streets in the late evening and night
- there is a supermarket on Santa Lucia street about 5 minutes on foot
- there is an ongoing strike / dispute with the garbage collecting company and the city as we were told so you will find heaps and hepas of collected garbage on streets
- pizza in Naples is very very good, especially in the family run restaurants.
- there is a McDonalds if you want fast food
- do buy a small red pepper souvenir as we were told they are hung begind the door to bring good luck

This is a nice hotel with an old school atmosphere. Nice restaurant on the top floor. The rooms are elegant with cool controls by the beds that will allow you to open and shut the shades and even put a do not disturb notice outside the door. The rooms are huge. It was like we had a dance floor in it. The bathroom was nice and the tub was nice and deep. The only real negative was that there is no pool in it and you have to go a couple of doors down the street to another hotel and pay 15 Euros to use it.

A note about safety. Naples is dangerous. Even in this area I felt like you had to be on your guard. But if you are going to Naples this is the area you probably want to be in. We had a nice view of Mt Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples and there is an historic castle across the street. Also in this area there were no piles of trash. When you go into other parts of the city you will be shocked by the mounds of trash everywhere. I hope that someday Naples is able to get clean and safe. I did meet some wonderful people there and the pizza is great too. Lots of places for that within a 5 minute walk of the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view.
