“The Best Hotel in Naples!”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

We arrived from Calabria via train and took a taxi to the hotel. Cost was approx. EUR 20.
Upon arrival there was a doorman to greet us and depsite the 90+ degree weather, he was sharply dressed in a proper uniform. Our check-in was pleasant and after being escorted to our room, the bags arrived literally within two minutes. We had a room facing the Bay of Naples and the views are just stunning! This is a true Grand European Hotel that continues to hold on to it's past (perfectly!) while providing guests with modern touches. The staff is attentive to a guests every need. You should have a drink in the bar and dinner in the stunning rooftop restaurant. Breakfast is served on the first or second floor with those special bay-water views and an impressive array of choices. A stop by the pool and a special massage will melt away any stress! When we left, we actually felt sad that our stay was not longer. We will be back!

Room Tip: Make sure you have a room facing the Bay of Naples and plan on dinner in the rooftop restaurant with...

I really don't understand the bad reviews this hotel gets, this is the second year we have stayed there,ok so it is a little out of Sorrento but the hotel have a bus that runs regular, the hotel is great the rooms are cleaned everyday the pool area is outstanding always plenty of sunbeds, the food what can I say absolutely AMAZING.
The staff are helpful and friendly from the cleaners, bar staff,to the restaurant staff nothing is to much trouble for them and to have waiter service on an all inclusive holiday makes it even mor special.
If you want McDonald's or KFC food then this beautiful hotel will not be for you.

Just one more thing the hotel has a view from the main balcony that will take your breath away.

Room Tip: Sea facing rooms are beautiful

Perfect Service, very friendly staff, great location, at the Lungomare.
Quite place, as the Lungomare is a pedestrian zone.
Breakfast amazing !
A lot of cheap restaurants around the hotel - in the Lungomare

Great location, very nice rooms with turndown service. Everything else is extra. Internet is 30 euros a day, breakfast is good, but to have anything beyond the very basic it will cost 5-7 euros per item. The gym costs extra as does the sauna.
I would stay here again, but I'd have to get a great base price to deal with all the add ons.

We spent 3 nights there while visiting Napoli and the Amalfi Coast.
We loved it although the staff, without being on you all the time, could be little bit more happy to help or to offer help. We've done a couple of nice hotels and usually in these kind of places the staff is more proactive I'd say.
Having said that the location is great, bedrooms are super nice (big & clean) and all amenities are really over the top. Our bedroom was seaview and it's really worth it although I don't understand why there's no chairs or table on the balcony, it's kind of a shame that you cannot sit and enjoy a drink or a breakfast there.
On the minus side we'd had that you've got to pay to use the gym...
We had dinner on top floor and we'd advise people to go, it's a little bit pricey but definitely worth it.
Overall we loved the place, we'd recommend it and we'd come back but we believe some stuff need to be changed or adjusted in a place that's got 5 star.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money to get a sea view, really worth it

Upon arrival it soon became apparent that 'disability access' was going to be somewhat problematic. For anyone unable to get out of their wheelchair this could be challenging.Of course one wouldn't want the 'Grand' and 'Historic' features altered for the sake of an access ramp. Many famous folk have stayed here and no doubt enjoyed the 'antiquities' as well as the 'pomp'.I have to say though for a 5-Star Hotel there were a couple of niggles which were irritating, first of all there was a well stocked 'mini-bar but no Tea/Coffee facilities, which had to be ordered via Room Service at quite a cost. Secondly, although we put a 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door and illuminted the 'Do Not Disturb' Light, we still received calls from Housekeeping and knocks on the door! The first room wasn't brilliant, especially as we had booked a 'superior room' with a view...I don't class leaning out of a 7th storey window and looking sideways a view, so I ended up paying a 'premium' to move to a 'Room with a view'. The Room we then had was lovely and had a view straight at the Harbour. The food we had at the Hotel was enjoyable. All in all it was alright.

Room Tip: The Harbour View Rooms with a balcony are in my view the best.

The Grand Albergo Vesuvio is wonderfully situated along Via Partonope, the bayside promenade in front of the Castel Dell 'Ovo (Old Castle). If you get a bay-facing room, you necessarily get a balcony and it's wonderful to go out occasionally and look at the boats anchored along the marina, the people jogging along the promenade, the ships in the bay. Sure, it's not beside the historical center - it's a 10 minute walk along Via Santa Lucia and Via Console before you get to Piazza del Plebiscito, which is the southwest part of the historical center. It enjoys a great reputation with the local travel agents who believe that's it's first among its equals.

The lobby is decently large, exquisitely decorated with several areas that serve as lounges or salons. the discreet staircase is so classically old world and everywhere you have marble and etched glass. All the rooms are high-ceilinged which is always a plus. The front desk staff are almost all male and super-efficient. They even accompany you to your room before sending up the bellman with your luggage.

The rooms are large- there's a foyer before you get to the bedroom proper. Ditto with the elevator landings, staircase landings. The room is tastefully wrapped in green cloth wallpaper and the furniture are french-inspired. They have two armchairs and two regular chairs, also bedecked in the same green cloth as the curtains and walls. They have automatic metal shutters that drop down for full black-out to sleep in and back up again when you wake up. The light switches are very intricate - you can control so many lights from the night table panel, including unlocking the door! The floor is fine wood and the bathroom is in black and white marble with nice lighting fixtures.

Breakfast service was decent - my only problem was that they didn't offer free eggs - you paid 3 euro for a boiled egg and 6 euro for omelet. The breakfast room was nothing short of magnificent. Service was not too friendly but completely professional.

Wifi was free as with most of the top-level Italian hotels, though here, if your computer slept, you had to re-enter the user name and password, which was a bit of a pain. It was also hard to look for free outlets you could use to charge your PC, mobile phone and camera battery. There were only two free in the room so my wife and I had to line up our devices and watch them so we could swap. They had CNN and BBC on TV which was nice - but the TV was on a tray that seemed a bit out of place.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a bay-facing room.
