I went in December 2012 to the fontanelle cemetery after having read on tripadvisor about it. The cemetery is uneasy to find and you should not follow the signs on the street as they have been turned and point in the wrong direction. BEWARE: a very nice and polite woman stopped us at the entrance of the area leading to the cemetery to warn us that the streets around there are very unsafe. The surrounding are indeed intimidating and people were looking at my partner with insistence while a group of young men on moto were constantly near us. Use caution, common sense and hide your belonging. That said it was worth going through the effort.
The cemetery itself is very impressive with thousand of bones carefully displayed and arranged. The place is both beautiful and eerie and is a haven for photographers. It is also a fantastic way to immerse yourself in napolitan culture. A must see if you have a bit of an adventurous spirit and are not scared by death.
