My wife and I achieved a few of our lifetime ambitions on this trip, but Its difficult to recommend Naples to cossetted tourists, It is not at all what I expected of my first experiences of Italy. The city is an all out assault on the senses, It's filthy, litter strewn congested and very intimidating. Incessant Sirens and motor horns, fireworks but it is an okay place to stay for a short visit to this bustling vibrant region of Italy.
The Jolly Hotel has the advantage of being a two minute walk from the airport bus stop at the Piazza Municipo. This bus service at 3 euros is a bargain compared to the price of a taxi and runs every twenty minutes. Ideal. The hotel is typical of any other city hotel, guests anonymous, hotel functional clean and tidy, clean sheets every day!!!!. Come on! be real, you have not come to Calabria to sit in a hotel, You should be out there visiting beatiful Capri and the fascinating ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Fabulous view.
For visits to archaelogical sites and museums go to the main Station and get an Artecard, it gives free entry and travel to numerous sites this includes buses and trains all over Calabria
We bought 3 day cards for 25 euros each and we were also given 2 day artecards by the very helpful receptionist at the Jolly (10 out of 10 for customer relations.) Therefore all our museum visits etc. numerous train rides on the Circumvesuviana Network were free, even to Sorrento, and so were our bus rides.
All European cities are plagued by pick-pockets, beggars beatniks and swindlers. Be careful and don't leave yourself to be a soft target and keep your wits about you.
One more thing there is a discreet trattoria/pizzaria opposite the Jolly's front door called siro or ciro( its bigger than it looks) serves great food but don't take the Waiters recommendation on wine. We ended up with an Italian Gewurtztraminer at 25 quid. Vile!!!!

Everyone will tell you Naples is a dirty, grotty place to stay but it isn't if you have the right hotel. The Jolly hotel is near the port - great for going to the Isle of Capri or Sorrento, - with beautiful views of the port and harbour. It is very clean, big rooms, with a good breakfast and because of it's height, it is a landmark that prevents getting lost! Unless you speak Italian, you wont be noticed at reception, but that is a minor problem. Look in all the side streets around the hotel for some inexpensive, good restaurants and buy cheap gelato in the beutiful domed building just near the hotel. Also don't leave Naples without buying some Limoncello from the delicatessen just one street away from the port entrance. Great location, the Jolly Hotel makes for a great stay in Naples and the Amalfi coast.

Naples is the pits as far as I am concerned. What a dirty filthy town! Thankfully the only thing we had to do was sleep in the hotel there.

The Hotel Jolly was a large business hotel but we had a great room and bathroom with a wonderful view of the city from a distance.

That is how you want to see Naples..because close up...it is nothing. Our tour guide warned us not to leave the hotel at night because of the crime in the area.

But a stay here was very nice. And our continental breakfast and dinner were outstanding.

The best thing about Naples for me...was leaving on the ferry for Capri.

Excellent hotel. Clean and upscale environment. Service seems somewhat snobby but the hotel more than made up for it.

The Jolly Hotel Napoli is located in downtown Naples and is near the docks where boats take you to Capri or Sorrento. The view from rooms facing the water is terrific! The hotel rooms start on the 15th floor and end at the 23rd floor. The four elevators (of which two were on intermittant service) hold 6 persons. These are the same elevators the staff uses for luggage transport for groups. At certain times the wait for an elevator with room for additional passangers can be 15 to 20 minutes. My room was decently appointed, clean, and was small as most european rooms are.
Thr restaurant has tasty food; but the bar is very proud of its drinks. The street area around the hotel is frequented by the homeless and some panhandlers. Be careful not tostep into foul substances on the sidewalk.
