“Ugly outside, comfortable inside.”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

I chose this hotel, as I got good rate with breakfast included and free WiFi.
Arriving to the hotel is very easy and comfortable. End station of Alibus, the public bus running from the airport, is very close to the hotel, maybe 400m. Bus driver let me out even earlier, so distance was maybe 200m. Fare was only 3 euros. It is also safer to arrive to this hotel, as you do not need to exit the bus at the main station, where most of the thief tend to clean your pockets. The bus has only three stops: Airport-main station-harbor. Architectually, the hotel looks terrible, but when you are in, it does not disturb much.
Hotel is nicely located, everything (main sites, shopping) within walking distance. Even train station Circumvesuvius, which takes you to Pompeii is 2km away, 15min walk.
Reception staff upon arrival was very friendly, Mr Gen... He was more like used car sales man, trying to sell an upgrade to refurbished Deluxe room (against the fee) etc. It is normal in Americas this kind of additional sales, but for me it was too pushy.
I found odd, that elevators had security, that you shouldn't be able to use them without a room key, but system was inoperative. Lack of security.
Room itself was very small, you can see from pictures, I would have expected from 4star hotel little bit bigger rooms. My room carpet was bit dirty or more worn out, but I did not upgrade to refurbished room. It would have been interesting to see refurbished room for comparison. TV set was also old, now days flat screens are standard even in old rooms. My room had a safe, so I wonder, why some complained not having one. My only negative experience with room was that you could really hear neighbors well. Walls were more like curtains, providing cover from neighbors, not blocking sounds. View from all rooms is spectacular, as lowest rooms are probably on 16th floor, even that window is quite small.
Bathroom was big and amenities (shampoo, soap, lotion) were good and filled daily. Shower door was standard, which was too small for that shower, letting water spray to bathroom. Towel rack was cheap plastic one, I would have expected to have a metal one in 4 star hotel. Old room, maybe it had been replaced with spare. Towel quality was good. Only thing I did not figure out in the bathroom, small metal locked door, looked like service elevator room, where had been built additional shelf.
WiFi is free, but signal strength is not very high. For some reason they give you the access code, which valid for 24hrs, so for longer stays, you need to pick new one every day.
Breakfast was ok. It offers variety of breads and croissant, bacon and omelet as warm component, except one morning they were pretty cold. Toppings for bread you have several choices of jam, turkey, salami and cheese etc. Also yogurt and muesli was available. Fresh fruits were decent. Drinks were coffee or tea and orange, multi and pineapple juices. So variety was good, but somehow I felt bit "cold" with them. For sure, it offered very good value for the money.
Staff at the hotel were friendly and professional. Some mentioned specially Daniela, I can confirm that her smile is charming.
To summarize, I can recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Please note that there are additional elevators per floor in addition to central elevators. Ask a ro...

Parking is available in the garage underneath the hotel with elevator straight up to the lobby, very convinient. Rooms are not big but perfect for overnight stays, bathrooms are well-equipped and pleasant. Window views are to bay of Naples or city side. If you wish to have a panoramic view of the sea, it is well worth to upgrade to rooms on the top floor with the whole-height windows. Walking distance to Castell Nuovo, Archeological Museum, subway and other attractions.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms for panoramic view

I stayed one night, also having dinner inside the hotel (organized by the meeting).
The hotel is nice and rooms are clean.
During the night (around 2 a.m.) the electrical power went off twice (it was restored in 10 seconds each time). I wouldn't have noticed it (sleeping...) if it weren't for the room lights, that went all on immediately at power resume.
The TV set was quite oldish, and image quality was not very good.
The hotel gives an "international" image (including in the meals), and this is not very nice in a town like Naples, that has a lot of "personality": they could integrate more of the city mood in their services!
Free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms (but you need to get the password at the reception), but in my room it was so slow that it was impossible to visit complex websites (e.g., youtube wouldn't play). Forget about buying business wifi, prices are outrageous.

The NH Ambassador stands out as one of the tallest buildings in the area, the hotel itself is adequate and offers all the amenities one would expect of an international brand. The rooms are basic, a little tired and need of investment, but clean. Ask for a sea view and you will not be disappointed with the views across the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius (in the distance). Staff are friendly (special mention for Daniella) who was very helpful in proving tips for restaurants and sailing times to Sorrento. A workers strike was on whilst there, so we had no room service and/or operating bar for the short time we were there - not sure how often this happens, but worth noting before you book to ask the question, as the strike only seemed to affect the NH Ambassador. Location is excellent for the old district and the port. So would I stay again, for a few days yes.

Room Tip: Sea view, on floors 20 and above

We had a Deluxe room at this large center city hotel which was comfortable and large.
We were on the 27thfloor and a wonderful view of the city.
The room included breakfast which was pretty basic but adequate.
The hotel is within walking distance of many of the historical sites.
The staff were for the most part not overly friendly with the exception of Rossella in the reception area who was most helpful.
Naples has gotten a bad rap for being dangerous and dirty but it does have some very nice areas and lots of wonderful museums.

Room Tip: Try to get a deluxe room on a high floor

You always now you are going to get a good nigh sleep in a NH hotel. The NH Ambassador Napoli at 30 storey highs, offers a nice large bedroom / suite with excellant views and with the usual high standards expected of a very good hotel - trouser press, fridge, films etc.

The hotel is brilliantly located for the shops, Porto, historic centre, duomo and of course the legendary Da Michele Pizzeria about 15 minute walk away.

The breakfast is good with great coffee and espresso offered.

Like anything, all hotels have a downside, with the regards to the NH Ambassador, the Wi-Fi was intermittent and did not work in the communal areas on the first night and I was only offered 30 minute session the second day; there was no safe in the room or tea / coffee making facilities and I had to wait twice for 15 minutes to get served at the bar.

Would I recommend this Hotel? - Definitely - A bargain at the price.

Located near Via Toledo, the center of Naples, Italy. Easy access to buses, trains, local shopping as well as tour services. Hotel has a garage nearby for those who rent vehicles during their visit. Hotel staff is friendly and very helpful. The hotel provides 30 minutes of free wi-fi service in the lobby upon request and for an hourly fee, the wi-fi service can be used in your room. Breakfast consists of eggs, meats, cheeses, various fruits, cereals and sweets, along with coffee, tea, and fruit juices. I will be using this hotel again.
