“Viva la pizza!”

We spent four fantastic days in Naples and Zia Maria house was a great home base-- also a fantastic location if you're in Naples to check out some of the city's best pizza. Host Antonia couldn't have been more helpful upon our arrival and hope you get a chance to try Roberta's fruit tart/crostata for breakfast!

This is a B&B, so there is no restaurant or room service or workout room or store. But, the cost is relatively low, the rooms are large and spotless. Each has its own bathroom. The views from the rooms are superb. Mt. Vesuvius in one direction, a building blown out by a WWII bomb across the street, the underground tours across the street, several historical churches in the plaza. This is on the street with the nativity sets for sale. The location is central (in Spacanapoli, near great restaurants, historical sights) and absolutely safe. The rooms are on the 5th floor, so noise is not an issue. It feels like being in someone's home, although I do not believe the owners are there at night time, and so one wants to be quiet and courteous. Breakfast was usually a fruit, yogurt, and a bread of some kind, plus juice, coffee, tea, milk, water. The owner was a bit annoyed with us (myself, 57, my sister, 68) for having wine in our room, which we spilled and it got on the curtains. That's when one appreciate's that this is family owned and not corporate. Walking distance to everywhere-- the archeological museum, the water front, Chaia, etc.). A bit of a hike to the train station, but we did it with bags. I highly recommend this place to mature travelers; wouldn't recommend it to young revelers or families with children unless you understand its a pretty quiet place.

Room Tip: One side of the building looks out onto San Gaetano church and piazza. The other looks out onto the...

I choose this place for the comments on the quietness and I do not regret. We stay 5 days. It is located in the historical center of Napoli on a nice Piazza. The place is very safe, the room are nice and clean. We did not hear anything during the night although the area is lively. Tonia is a great hostess and she made everything alright. Well-situated, nice and great service: I recommend !

After careful consideration I stayed at Zia Maria (Nov 2011) and it did not disappoint. In the heart of historic Naples in Piazza San Gaetano, near to all the sights (archeological museum 15 minutes up hill) and at least 4 great pizzerias (down the block from Mateo and less than 10 minute walk to Michele), this charming B&B is a peaceful retreat to return to after a day of trooping the city. located on the 5th floor, as soon as you walk in you can leave the hustle and bustle of the street of Naples behind. Nice modern updated decor, (think well lit, minimalistic, white walls and well kept space), working/free internet and a sense of privacy, I had a single with a small balcony, with my own bathroom (good shower pressure, hot water and clean recently updated appliances), comfortable queen size bed (like from Ikea). There is a lounge area and a terrace with a view to the bay of Naples (and the many roof tops), to hang out and chill with a bottle of wine. It is one of the better B&B I have stayed in Italy and had definitely contributed to my experience traveling alone in Naples! I felt quite at home there I will definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends. The hospitality is unbeatable--both ladies care about helping the guests and did everything to help (call the museums ahead to see if they are open, arranging cabs etc). GRAZIE MILLE Zia Maria!

Zia Maria Home is a large apartment centrally placed in the Centro Storico, Naples.
The position is ideal for tourists.
There are six letting rooms, all en suite.
Breakfast (continental) is served on the terrace.
There is a lounge area which guests can use as the owners live elsewhere. There is also a computer for guests use, together with lots of information about Naples and Italy in general.
Our room on was large, minimalist, clean with a small balcony overlooking the hub of activity below. I felt the room was a bit too minimalist, lacking the usual things, for example, mirror, hairdryer, shampoo etc. The bed was comfortable, spotlessly clean but had only one sheet with no blankets or extra pillows to be found anywhere. Although Naples is hot in September, I was cold the first night. I was given a bedspread the following morning.
Our shower did not drain quickly enough with the result that the bathroom soon became very wet underfoot. The only way of clearing this up was by using the very thin towels. There was also a smell from the drains here.
Roberta was helpful is dealing with our enquiries (no English spoken) and doing our washing but I felt that 30 euros for two small loads of washing was a bit excessive. We had been charged significantly less than this in Salerno using a professional laundry service.
Payment accepted in cash only.

The location is perfect - in the heart of the historic area of Naples near beautiful streets and churches. Maria who takes care of the B&B is lovely and tries her best to help. Will be back.

The large room with high ceilings was newly renovated, all in white. The air conditioning helped us recover from 30+ degree heat outside (at the beginning of Sept. 2011). The service very friendly and helpful, and my broken Italian was sufficient. Breakfast on the terrace with a view of Vesuvio and the Bay of Naples was delightful, although the breakfast offering was very Italian and therefore too sweet for our liking. But the coffee was very good. The B&B is like an oasis in the midst of the dilapidated Centro Storico.
