The location just at the side of Piazza Plebiscito makes it a must for people watching, but the prices reflect the privilege. Nonetheless, it definitely is worth it. The pastries are great. Make sure you pop inside to check out the interior, which is quite grand.

This was our last stop after a day spent shopping in Naples. We stumbled upon this lovely cafe and decided to have a glass of wine before returning to our ship in the nearby port. We sat on the busy outdoor patio and menus were given within a few minutes of being seated. We ordered 3 glasses of red wine for €21. With the wine came olives, chips, a variety of nuts and 4 delicious small warm pastries. Our waiter was charming, and we attempted to chat in bits of English & Italian. He called a taxi for us to the port, after we had only inquired about where to get a taxi. We had a very enjoyable experience.

Snobby unfriendly service reminded us of good old Soviet days. We've never been treated like that anywhere in Italy or in the world for that matter.

This cafe was nice, but after reading lots about it as the oldest cafe and one of the top 'must do' things in Naples, we were a little disappointed, perhaps because it had been over hyped.
We treated ourselves to cakes and hot chocolates whilst doing a bit of people watching, and we expected to have our minds blown.....and it didn't happen. What we had was no better than what we had eaten in other places and the service was nothing special either. The patisserie itself is very elegant and impressive, definitely worth going in just to see the rows of pretty cakes and pastries, but I can't say I would recommend eating in Gambrinus over any other place.

I doubt many tourists will stop here unaware that it is pricey and the cost will reflect the history and mention in every guide book.
Coffe with cream, espresso with cream, lemon sorbet, mixed gelato and 4 glasses of a rather good prosecco = 50 euro however loved it and one of those treats you go in for every so often.
Staff were fine and no issues identified in other reviews
