In the midst of the popular and populous district of Pignasecca (dry pine cone) in Naples, not far from Piazza Dante and his modern underground and close to the funiculare (cable car) of Montesanto, Pizzeria Attilio is next to "Pizzeria al 22”. In the streets around it there is one of the most colorful fish and vegetable markets of the old city. Delicious pizzas baked in a wooden oven. You can also eat other typical Neapolitan food, but the pizza is really worth.

I happened to come across the restaurant purely by chance. Just wanted a bite in the evening, and as most of the restaurants are usually closed till 7-7:30 pm, I hoped to find a bar or something for a snack. I saw Da Attilio which was opened. While waiting for my pizza (Margherita with mozzarella buffalo - uhm - fantastic!!!) I was looking around and saw a lot of pictures and newspaper clips on the walls, from which I learnt that I was lucky to be in a very famous and popular place, Both the pizza and the wine were excellent, as well as the service and very nice people working there. Later, talking to a receptionist in the hotel, I found out that it was really a very popular place in Naples. I definitely recommend the place to all those who would like to have a real taste of authentic Napolitan pizza.

We visited this unassuming place in the early evening and were the only customers, though the wood-fired oven was already burning away furiously. We came for the pizzas (the kitchen was closed so early on, so that was all that was available anyway) and they did not disappoint. The margharita (€3.50) exemplefies the neapolitan style of a puffy, blistered crust of delicious bread with rich tomato and creamy mozzarella. So good, you needn't look further down the extensive choice of toppings. In fact the sausage and onion pizza, though tasty enough, oddly seemed to consist of slices of frankfurter. When in Naples it seems that less is indeed more...

Little and unpretentious place - but amazing pizze! For a reasonable price, you will experience the typical and tasty napolitan pizze.
One of the best pizze I had the chance to eat in Napoli.

A small pizza restaurant locate at the rear lane next to Via Toledo, the main road of Napoli, that fill with locals. No English menu and no English speaking waiters, but non Italian speaking customers should have no problem to order good food, given the enthusiasm of the waiters, or said, all dishes are above average. The most spectacular scene was seeing your pizza being pulled from the oven, which was at the main entrance of the restaurant. Don't forget to order the one-Euro espresso, that will give a good conclusion of your meal.
