“Fabulous setting”
Reviewed October 27, 2011

Wonderful setting, did not disappoint in any way. Helpful service in a family owned establishment, great facilities with beautiful garden and pool area. Comfortable - if dated - apartment, but the owners are on to this, and plan to refurbish. Let's hope the character isn't lost. Loved the location with easy bus routes to the whole island right in front, and dinner in the Mezzatorre will stretch the budget, but is well worth it. Would definitely return, and recommend to like minded independent travellers looking for a bit of character and no frills.

An amazing place in a wonderful island. Villa Ravino was perfect to every points of view. Beautiful, quiet, magnificently located (near beaches, restaurants, and public transport) and run with elegance and discretion.
One has the impression of being in Garden of Eden. The Bothanic Garden was an unexpected bonus, in addition to a beautiful swimming pool and a nice and confortable spa. In addition to rare plants and animals, the Bothanic Garden hosts a cute bar and many interesting cultural evening events.
The couple who own Villa Ravino are very nice and attentioned people with whom it is a pleasure to talk about Ischia past and future.
A place rare to find in Italy and elsewhere.
Silvia and Monica

Room Tip: The rooms at the ground floor have very nice private gardens

We stayed at Villa Ravino with a mixed family ages long with my wife and my 2 teenagers - it was perfect for us all with smimming, spa and plenty of relaxing for us all. Hospitality was superb and the location is perfect to explore the island, but most of all the view from the front veranda in the evenings is just stunning and so relaxing. If you stay here you won't go wrong and do ask for advice on where to eat as Luca has some great recomendations and took time out to think of the right sort of restaurants for us all. We will be definetley returning to Villa Ravino again, soon I hope. Oh yes the gardens are worth a visit even if you decide not to stay here.

I spent 7 days at Villa Ravino, Edith and Pepe her husband take amazing care of the Botanical Garden. The peacocks and all. Chris and Luca their sons are always there for help. Luca and his wife and 3wonderful Children took me to a celebration in Lacco Armeno along with their uncle Wegner. Luca provides great restaurant suggestions and wonderful hospitality. Leno the barman is warm and funny, Anna the massage therapist was great, Olga and Steffi the housekeepers were very nice. I rented a moped one day and cruised the island comfortably alone. The villa has a great Thermal bath as well as a pool. The rooftop sunroof was awesome for sunsets as well as the full moonrise. My apartment was comfortable with a small kitchen and adequate utensils . A short 10 minute walk took me to a small market for veggies and wine. The garden on site is lovely beyond words with peacocks wandering happily. I live in Maui and this garden still brought tears to my eyes..the people were so warm I couldn't have been happier. I am already thinking of when I can return...considering the distance ....it must have been wonderful. It is not a "la tee da 5 star" hotel...it is a charming , lovely, inviting place that remains in your heart....I highly recommend it!

Room Tip: Garden view is nice..sea view is nicer

We were late in booking our holiday and only manged to stay one week at Villa Ravino, however the very helpful owner, Edith, arranged for us to stay in an apartment next to their property for the second week. Villa Ravino is situated in the most beautiful setting with spectacular views, although the steep hill was a challenge in the heat - you can however, on days the gardens are open, take an easier route through them. The apartment we had with a terrace was very clean, modern and very comfortable and had everything we needed (apart from an iron!) It was peaceful and very relaxing, with places throughout the property to sit and relax and watch the stunning sunsets. There were also lovely sun terraces and a pool. At no time did you feel anywhere was crowded or busy - plenty space for everyone to relax in peace. The gardens were spectacular. We had bought a two week ticket at 25euros for the local buses(would never dream of driving!!) and soon found our way around the beautiful island. The buses are fairly regular and appear to run throughout the night - there was a bus stop very near to the apartments and it was very easy to hop on the bus to go into the town for a meal, supermarket or to go to the beach. We found some fabulous restaurants on the advice of the d'Ambra family and can also highly recommend the small Pizza restaurant and take away just along the road, very handy if you wanted to stay at home and not cook. We came home feeling very relaxed and will ensure that we book early next time so we can spend 2 weeks in Villa Ravino

We stayed at Ravino for 3 nights in early September. The location would not suit all, once there it has stunning views and is incredibly peaceful, however when you leave the Villa you have to walk along an incredibly busy road to reach either the supermarket, beach or restaurants, the road has limited pavements and is the main perimeter road for the island. We didn't have a car so the walk was not pleasant. Taxi's on the island are very expensive, 15e for the short trip to Forio. The villa has many relaxing/sunbathing areas to enjoy the views, there are also some nice comfy chairs at the front of the villa to enjoy and evening drink. The cafe attached to the gardens is lovely and service was excellent. The apartment however was small and dated although clean.

We travelled to Ischia by hydrofoil- take the ferry if you have even the slightest chance of being seasick!!
A short taxi ride took us to Villa Ravino. It is sited off a busy road but once inside the complex we discovered a beautiful and relaxing haven, run by a delightful family who have lovingly developed the apartments and grounds over the last 30 years. The apartment was exactly what we had asked for- it had the most amazing view from the balcony- the sea to one side the magestic mountains to the other. The complex is small- perhaps 20 or so apartments all cleverly laid out ,so each one has privacy and a lovely view. They all have either a balcony or terrace. The pool is small but absolutely adequate for the small number of guests. It was warm and the terraces had sunbeds and umbrellas. There were also 2 roof terraces again with sunbeds/umbrellas and that fab view.
There is a thermal pool that fills with clean water each day. It is about 38oc and a fabulous treat that really helped us to relax.
The most beautiful area is the "cactus garden" which has taken 6 years to develop though much longer to grow the cactuses as they are huge. The hundreds of cactuses have windy paths, bridges and waterfalls amongst them which truly are amazing, especially at night when lit with candles and lanterns. Amongst this "fairytale" garden is the cactus bar which serves drinksand snacks and has live music in the evening. This is never crowded and is somewhere lovely to go before going out for dinner. The owners have worked extremely hard to create a very special ambience throughout the whole complex.
Ischia is beautiful- we were never short of ideas from Lucca as to where to go. From the thermal spa at Posiedon to the amazing square at San Angelo to the pretty town at Forio. We also went to the most romantic resaurant in the hills and to the best ice cream shop in the world!!!
The Villa Ravino deserves a 5 star- it was truly the most relaxing and enjoyable holiday we have ever been on.
