This is a family run hotel but nevertheless substantial and central. The rooms are typical for Capri - Italian tiles, wonderful views from balconies. The bathrooms are in need of an upgrade. The pool is lovely, and lunch under the trees a real treat, although the menu is really very limited. The prices at Mamela are competitive for what must be one of the most expensive islands in the Med (the world?) and the breakfasts good and in a most relaxing setting. Highly recommended. A word of warning - the prices throughout Capri have reached such stratospheric ridiculousness it is unlikely that you will get a reasonable dinner for two for less than 140Euro per couple. No wonder Italy is in financial trouble!

Room Tip: sea view essential

This Hotel is very beautiful and it has the charm of Capri. The pool is also lovely and the rooms were clean and quite pretty.
Very good location - quiet but just a few steps away from the center of town.
View - wonderful
Service - not so good,
The front desk - not very helpful
We asked for two rooms - one for my husband and I and one for our daughter. Well she handed the suite key to our daughter and put us in a double room. Not knowing this, we
all unpacked went out for the afternoon and when we returned we all realized the mixup.
We also asked for information about a helicopter ride back to Positano - she was unable to get us any information, but came back with information on a 20 minute boat ride costing 1500 euros - the ferry is about 17 Euros.
The bartender at the pool was unable to make even the most basic drink - he had no idea what was stocked in the bar.
Finally asked for a bloody mary and he made it without vodka.
There was also a half-empty bottle of water in the mini bar when we arrived.
So, although the property is lovely - the service was pretty dismal.

The hotel is nicely decorated, the staff is friendly, the rooms are large. There is an excellent view, the terrace is large and nice, the pool is ok and there is free wifi. If you add all these together, the hotel has quite good qualities and potential. But there are some quite disturbing details that questions whether this hotel deserves four starts. There was mould on the outlet of the air conditioner, the bath tub was not working properly, the breakfast is below average. Furthermore the community spaces are quite poorly used: you are not allowed to sit on the terrace during breakfast, it is reserved during lunch and it closes already at 10pm. It means that it is almost always deserted.

Nice hotel. Front desk, not very friendly. Had problems with air conditioning. Despite giving laundry ahead of time, it was not ready upon departure.

We stayed at Mamela in July 2009. We were in Italy for a total of 3w and we spent 4 nights on the Island of Capri. This part of our trip was a surprise planned by my husband. It was incredibly romantic!

We drove to Naples and took a boat there.
The hotel was so incredibly beautiful and relaxing!
Our room overlooked the sea and we had a terrace where we could sit and just take in the beauty of the island!

What a romantic destination with the most helpful and informative front desk staff. They made every effort to help us plan dinners, excursions etc all in English.

The breakfast bistro was nice. We enjoyed lunch 1 day by the pool. It was a little pricey but what isn't on Capri?

I would love to make this a place we return to time and time again!

We stayed at the Hotel Mamela in September 2010 and we will never forget this wonderful place. We would recommend it to anyone! All staff were extremely helpful, attentive and friendly. The room was huge, spotlessly clean, comfortable, and beautifully furnished! The view from the balcony was incredible (overlooking the sea, i Faraglioni on the left and Monte Solaro on the right). The terrace and pool area were also first class. Hotel Mamela exudes tasteful luxury on all fronts! The location is also ideal, just a few minutes walk from the centre, but at same time quiet and relaxing.

WOW! This hotel is gorgeous- we had a room with such a fantastic view- it was incredible. The bedroom and bathroom are both huge by European standards. The room simply decorated but pretty. I loved the location as well. It was just a quick walk to the piazza yet removed enough from the main street that it was quiet at night. The pool area is very pretty and the breakfast in the morning was nice out on their patio. We rented a boat one day and explored all of the caves and grottos on our own. It was fantastic and I highly, highly recommend it (if you have boating experience)! Renting a scooter and driving to Anacapri was fun too- it is a beautiful drive! For all the girls out there- get a pair of custom made sandals by Antonio Viva while you are in Anacapri! They are expensive but are so beautiful and so special!
