“Certainly worth seeking out. A lovely hidden little family run gem.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2012

Il Tinello is not the easiest restaurant to find, hidden down a tiny alley off another tiny alley but it is worth seeking out for a great meal. Inside the place is tiny with perhaps 7 tables but it is very modern and the food is delicious, imaginative and attractive. It is a pretty small outfit and they do an excellent job of producing such excellent food in those confines. You're not going to get the view you'll get from the tourist traps at the top of the cliff but you'll get a fabulous meal. Me, I like food!

The food was uniformly excellent with great, fresh ingredients. Pasta with ragu was excellent but the highlight of the meal for me was the simply grilled squid (in the picture) which was amazingly well cooked, not to mention extremely attractive to look at! Having seen a lot of the best looking food coming out of the kitchen coming off the grill, I'd recommend a main course from that part of the menu.

The wine list was short but interesting and nicely priced. As usual there was a nice collection of unusual types among the Italian standards for the adventurous.

The service was very good from the one waiter that was more than adequately handling a near full restaurant at lunchtime. She didn't speak a lot of English but was extremely patient with us as we used a lot of sign language and extremely poor Italian to ask questions about the menu. The service was also at a nicely sedate pace and after each dish the chef stepped out of the kitchen to ask our opinion - a very nice touch.

The restaurant is necessarily cosy but you don't feel cramped and the chairs are nicely comfortable. The artwork is also some of the best I've seen in a restaurant in some time.

Overall a very nice small restaurant. The food superbly fresh Italian with the most mouth watering, but simple, food coming off the grill be someone that clearly knows how to drive one! A little hard to find perhaps but worth persevering - keep looking for the sign when you're close by!

“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2012

We found Il Tinello by accident. We were slightly off the tourist roues in Capri and looking for somewhere for lunch. Experience has taught us to avoid over priced tourist traps and go 2 or 3 streets back, which is where we found this small, empty restaurant. We decided to try it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
The waitress spoke very little english, but more than our italian, and was able to talk us through the menu. We were all laughing as we attempted to understand each other and laughter always makes one feel welcome.
A complimetary bruschetta made with a lovely full-flavoured olive oil preceded our main courses, both of which were excellent and accompanied by a cold beer and all for a very reasonable price.
So, quality food, well served and presented at a reasonable price. What more could you want?

“A Friendly Smile, Perfect Service and Best Quality Ingredients”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2012

What do you expect from a great place to eat?

- Avoiding tourist traps?
- Heartfelt hospitality?
- Fantastic, well prepared food?
- Attentive service with an eye for detail?

We received all that at "Il Tinello"!

In case you're curious: we visited in the early afternoon. Lunch started with insalata caprese (some of the best tomatoes we've had in along time) and continued with pasta with vongole and tagliata (perfect medium beaf on arrugula and cherry tomatoes), acompanied by a great local white wine.

It's a little difficult to find and there is no outdoor seating but definitely more than worth it. How do you get the best of both atmosphere and food? Head to one of the cafés on the Piazzetta for an aperitivo and then eat here for dinner :-)

You might have to reserve a table in the evenings in high season as the restaurant is not very large.

“Fantastic food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2012

This place was great. Had the house specials for starter and main and they were incredible. The starter itself was 3 courses and all prepared to perfection. The main was also beautiful (my husband ate vegetarian and didn't complain!). Service was very good too.
