Hotel Regina Cristina
Ranked #32 of 40 Hotels in Capri
Reviewed July 1, 2014

Hotels on Capri are expensive but the Regina Cristina is not particularly so. There is a reason for this. It has seen better days. The location is excellent: close, but not too close, to the main piazza in Capri town, however the magenta nylon bedding, almost undetectable wifi and interestingly stained bathroom were not top notch.

You can get views of Capri from most rooms and it is stunningly beautiful (although our view would have been more useful if we had had chairs on the balcony to go with the table. The terrace is a pleasant place to sit and have a few drinks. There is no pool, and in the heat of the day that is a real lack.

Breakfast was adequate but unspectacular (and you need to watch out for the dodgy help yourself orange juicing machine with its shrieking fault alarm which is guaranteed to embarrass Brits of a nervous disposition).

The Regina Cristina has its pros and cons. Just be aware of them before booking.

First time to Capri. Charming island and we will definitely back. There are however many other hotel choices. The Regina has location going for it but that's about it. Rooms are old and bathroom could have been cleaner. In this case you get what you pay for and next time I will pay for more.

We spent five days in Capri
And I can say that the choice of hotel was very good
Clean, professional staff, close to the center and accessible
What more need from a good hotel?
truth, some of the parameters of the "four stars hotel" do not exist
But it is quite reasonable due location and the island options

The hotel was not all that impressive on the outside, but much nicer inside. The lobby and the rooms were light and airy with simple decorations in white, blues and greens that suited its island location. The bathrooms were fine, although there wasn't enough light in them for "older" eyes who can't see as well as they used to. Oh well, at least if I looked scruffy, then I was happily oblivious to it!! The staff in reception were polite and helpful, and the hotel was less than two minutes from the main square: great for exploring. On the down side, the tiled floors in the corridors meant that noise echoed down them. If you like to indulge in an afternoon siesta, then maybe this isn't the place for you. However, the staff made an effort to keep the noise down in the evening. The biggest disappointment was breakfast: I think it is one of the worst I have had in Italy, and that is no exaggeration. Very little choice, low-quality industrial produce and all plonked on one small table. Food was not replaced promptly and we constantly had to ask for things. If you stay there, eat breakfast in a cafe instead, or go to the fantastic bakers on Via Le Botteghe. Other than that it was a very charming hotel.

I will admit that I haven't been to this hotel in a while but as I remember it is situated in a beautiful location on the Isle of Capri.
The front of the hotel is lovely with flowers in the garden out front and the lobby floors, covered with terracotta tiles, are a welcoming warm color making the entrance very pleasant. Downstairs is a lovely restaurant for breakfast, which is ample to begin your day of sight seeing.
Our room, although it did not have a terrace, faced the famous Faraglioni Rocks. A spectacular view in anyone's opinion.
The hotel staff are helpful and friendly. This is a wonderful place to stay and when the tourists on their day trips leave, Capri comes alive with locals and those seeking fabulous, but pricey, restaurant options.
I highly recommend this hotel as a good location if you're planning to sty on the island.
If you don't like crowds, you should be aware of the tour groups that frequent the hotel. They do crowd things a bit, but its worth the stay to put up with them.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the sea, even if it doesn't have a terrace. the view is specatcular

Stayed two nights as part of tour group. The room was clean but showing it's age. My only complaint was an extremely rude waiter who, when asked if he would take our drink order after we had been seated and ignored for 15 minutes, indignantly told us we would have to "wait a minute". We waited ten more minutes then left to go elsewhere. The entire time he was chatting up another guest!!

As part of a group tour, we stayed here for 2 nights. We were placed on an upper floor with no view or access to the outside. The room itself was clean and the bed comfortable. There was no safe in the room and so our laptop had to be given to the front desk when we went out if we didn't want to leave it in the room. I found the breakfast quite adequate and the dinner was ok but the wine that was served was undrinkable. When I mentioned this to our tour guide, I was dismissed with an "everyone has different tastes." The lobby and their bar was great but I think the hotel could do with some updating. It's a beautiful island though and this is a great location.....close to lots of shopping and the main square. Their pool at the sister hotel was fabulous with lots of chairs and a great view. Can't comment on the value as it was part of a package.
