“Worth stopping at the viewpoint just before you arrive”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

We walked from our hotel in Capri to Villa Jovis in a little under an hour. The ruins of the villa are interesting, there is a marked trail and information on what each section of the villa was used for in roman times. The views are excellent, all the way to the Sorrentine Peninsula (and over the edge, straight down to the sea!). The entrance fee for adults was 2 euro.
It is worth stopping at the municipal viewing area on the right just before you arrive at Villa Jovis for some spectacular and very photo-worthy views. I saw several groups of people walk by without stopping and thought what a shame it was that they missed out on this.

“Must-See on Capri!”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

This is a bit of a trek to what I think is the highest part of the island, but so worth the effort! Villa Jovis is the ruins of the Emperor Tiberius's palace, built for his 10 years on Capri. Really stunning, incredible views of Capri and the surrounding seas, and the ruins are wonderful to see. It is open from 11 a.m. during peak months, not at all crowded, and there are some nice little cafe's to stop at on the way up and down. Definitely worth the effort to see this incredible piece of Capri history! You don't need hiking boots - but wear comfortable walking sandals.

“Enjoy Incedible Views”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

My wife and I walked to Villa Jovis in Late May, We are 60 and not the fittest of people Just be fore you reach the Villa there is a small park on the right with incredible views looking towards Fraglioni and Sorrentine peninsula. This park ( free ) closes early 2 or 4pm. Villa Jovis is interesting but it is the views that are outstanding, For nature lovers there are goats along the way and butterflies and wild flowers all over the site. Take a small picnic and sit and enjoy the views from the park or Villa site. Where ever we walk we always carry in my backpack Ryvitta crackers, cheese triangles (which do not need refrigeration) tomatoes & cucumber and fruit and water. We had a great picnic in center of Herculaneum as well. I saw someone push a child in a buggy, that must have been tiring

to the villa, That would be tiring on a hot day.

“If it's history you want - here it is.”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

If you come to Europe and Italy for history and to marvel at days past, this is for you. A really interesting place to walk up to and then around. Gives you a good sense of how advanced the Roman's were and leaves you in awe of what they could create back then. A ridiculously cheap entry price.

“Nice hike to great views”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

Paved path all the way there. So long up hill sections so be prepared. There are places along the way to get a drink or rest in the shade but should still take water with you. About 1 hour or more depending on your speed to get out to the ruins. Faster coming back as mostly down hill
