The marina grande is generally the entry point for all so you have to go through it. Watch your wallets. And if you need to use a loo outside of a restaurant, be prepared to pay 1 euro.

It's where you come to get to Capri, so most people simply jump on a bus or the funicular and get away as quickly as possible. That's understandable on a day trip, but as we had a week on the island, we had time to get to know it at a leisurely pace.

It became a favourite spot to lunch and people watch, as there's just so much activity, from countless boats dropping off and picking up people, to the constant throng of people passing by.

A highlight for us was seeing and walking up the steps of Sophia Loren's "Villa del Palazzo Reale" from the wonderful film set in Capri "It Started In Naples". It's immediately to the left of the little square, if you're interested.

Other than that, the port has reasonable restaurants at reasonable prices, although nothing's cheap in Capri.

Easy to navigate around. Small area with some decent tourist shops and several decent outdoor cafes. The funicular starts here and goes straight up to town center of Capri. Lots of convertible type cabs and buses all start here.

Porter service was good and reliable

I do like this area as there is so much going on with the boats, buses and taxis and all the people. Splash out and have a beer or ice cream in one of the good but expensive cafes, and watch the world go by.
