The food was average but not woth the money. We ordered a tomato sallad and 800 gramme of fish on recommendation from and what we got was one sliced tomato and 200 gramme of fish. They just did not mention that they would weigh the whole fish and not only filet.
In addition they tok 15% in serivce without asking as a fixed fee.
We weren`t satisfied at all. The service was not good. As a tourist you felt quite cheated. Don`t go there!

We were greeted with enthusiasm, but as the restaurant filled we felt forgotten. Food was fine but it's annoying to have to beg for one's check. Pink theme in the decor and waiters' attire -- interesting. Not special enough to return.

This place has been popular since 1931. Photos of Onassis, Dustin Hoffman and Michael Douglas are on the wall. I agree , based upon my two meals here, the reputation is deserved.

I ordered veal marsala. I was by far the best veal I ever ate. A big piece of juicy meat. I tested the spagehetti. The sause was just the right como of seasoning and oil, perfetto. To top it off, the owner a dapper older gentlemen actually greets you! I felt like a guest, not a tourist.

The restaurant has no outdoor dining but is located on a narrow street in the heart downtown Capri. The only thing this place lacks is a view. But you can get that everywhere else, so fuggetaboudit!

We were looking forward to visit La Capannina in Capri the fist time as my aunt had recommended it to me because she used to visit it 20 years ago. The restaurant is one of the oldest in Capri and obviously has a good rumor. We were welcomed friendly and placed right besides the entrance. The owner showed up immediately and recommended us the fresh fish of the day and a tomato salad to the fish so we ordered it.
The tomato salad came quickly but not the fish. The dishes should have come at the same time but they didn`t. We were surprised. Served was not a tomato salad but one sliced tomato for 9 euro.
Then the fish came. The owner had explained that we should order 800 gram for 2 persons but he did not mention that they weight the whole fish with the bone, the skin and the head resulting in a very miserly meal for us because it couldn`t be more than a 100 gram of fish filet.
Another warning sign was that they placed all tourists in one room and all Italians downstairs in another room.
As a final surprise they debited us a service fee of 15% extra.
In our opinion it should always be up to the customer to decide if the service is good.
Unfortunately, the visit to La Capannina was not worth it!
Maybe the restaurant had greater times 20 years ago.

Usually TripAdvisor steers us right, but we had a very mediocre experience at Capaninna. It was our first night in Capri and were so excited to gorge ourselves on Italian food and it turned out to be the least exciting meal of our trip. Instead of bread they bring out carrots and celery and radish for you to munch on, which i guess is meant to emphasize the freshness of the produce, but we just felt odd munching on carrot sticks. I ordered the baby squid and they were completely flavorless and tasted like they had been boiled for a few minutes and dumped on the plate. No sear to them, no delicious olive oil and lemon and sea salt that you normally get with squid in Italy. The veal chop was forgettable, and the meal came out over 100 Euros, which isn't bad if you loved the dinner. Unfortunately we didnt.
