We were looking for a nice place far from the touristic centre and we found this one while walking to Arche Naturale. We asked our hotel staff to book a table for a dinner as it was Sunday night, however, it appeared completely unnecessary as we were the only guests that night!
As mentioned the restaurant is located off the beaten track so it took us 15 minutes to walk uphill from our hotel but it was worth: the building itself is really interesting, charming greenish light outside and the interior is super cosy.
A very polite and kind waitress welcomed us warmly and since we were the only guests she gave us her entire attention (so did the main chef). In the beginning we were treated with a glass of prosecco (on house) and home made goat salami - very tasty! Then we were brought home made rolls and sticks - also great! Since neither of us was particularly starving we decided to share antipasti: gorgeous mozzarella buffala with fresh tomatoes, pepper and olive oil. Then my husband ordered spaghetti with tomato sauce and shrimps and I decided to have grilled sea bass with quinoa mixed with some nuts and asparagus plus a glass of white wine. We were very pleased with our choices: portions weren't too huge so we could enjoy our food slowly, tasting it with every sense: eyes, nose and mouth of course! For a dessert we ordered almonds-chocolate chips cake, similar to Capri cake, with Madagascar chocolate inside. We found out that we were very first guests trying this dessert out as it had been the chef's new idea. In the end we were given a shot of limoncello.
It's worth to mention that the main chef is twnety-something years old, he is the owner's son who has been basically growing up in this restaurant but he was also trained by top chefs in some Michelin-starred restaurants. He is very creative and combines old, natural ingredients with modern ones in uncommon ways. Additionally, Da Tonino offers a very impressive selection of wines. The waitress told us that there are around 10,000 bottles of wine in their wine cellar.
Overall we really enjoyed our dinner: the food was great, the atmosphere outstanding, the service more than polite (thank you Luciana and cooking personnel!). We do hope we will return to Da Tonino some day!
