The square buzzes with life. Safe to wander about. The trips and excursions can be booked from here if you like to organise them yourself. Port piccalo is very pretty and from there you can arrange trips to the islands, or go for a swim from the very small beach, or sunbathe from the bathing platforms. You can hop on the orange coloured bus from Tasso to the port and pay around 1e on board. However for your return journey you have to buy a ticket at the port. Quaint but hey this is Italy.

Piazza Tasso seems to me the heart of Sorrento. It is noisy but safe. I like to see Italians at their home.

Stolling through the old town with ancient Greek streets is my evening delight. By the way Sorrento's name came from the Greek word for "siren".

Pull up a chair in one of the many bars/restaurants around the square (we enjoyed Bar Ercolano), sip on a coffee or a cold drink, and watch the passing parade. You'll most likely see the entire population of Sorrento, resident and tourist, go by if you're there long enough.

Piazza Tasso really is the heart of Sorrento. The streets off the Piazza lead you into a labrynth of shops, bars and eateries. It really is a hidden gem covering everything from the traditional to the modern. We discovered new places every day and never ate in the same place twice.

The Fauno bar can be expensive and packed full so we only went there once. Always venture off into the little streets and you will unearth real Italy.

Sitting here watching the traffic fly by is an experience all of its own! We never thought we would see 4 up on a scooter! Mum, Dad 2 x kids plus beach bag. There is even a chap on a scooter with his faithful Yorkshire Terrier riding on the handle bars as if he's the rider. Very amusing.

Lovely place, cant wait go back.... need plenty of money though. Not for the frugal.
