“Now you're in Italy!”
Reviewed June 13, 2013 via mobile

Of the 4 Italian hotels we stayed in, this was my favorite. Set among lemon and olive trees close to the coast, it is in a beautiful and peaceful location apart from the noise and busy pace of the city. We stayed in the distant building that was maybe 600 meters from the main building (reception and breakfast). Our room was huge and very comfortable. Negatives for me were the necessary reliance on taking the bus that wasn't always on our time schedule, the phones and tv that didn't work very well, the steep uphill walk to the bus or downhill to the coast, and the musty smell in the room. Rosa was fabulous - very helpful. I agree this hotel is not for those who aren't able/don't like to walk, need to be in the city or want wifi in the rooms.

We are middle aged couple spent 3 nights in the May 2013 without car and felt very local surrounded by farms and gardens. I would recommend to take a walk to the village beach (turn right straight after the gate). Another amazing and adventurous local walk is to Rudery della villa romano (roman ruins) is passing the food store and stunning modern church down the mountain. Do not forget to visit a coffee shop and the restaurant by the bus stop to Sorrento. We went to Sorrento only once for a day to take a trip to Capri. We were missing the tea facilities in the room but the stuff was so kind to supply us with cups and a hot water in the evening. Taxi to/from Sorrento is 25 euro, in case you want to catch up with the 6.30 am bus to the Naples airport. Try Sorrento crema Limoncella, lemon liquor and all possible fresh cakes!

Room Tip: number 9 is upstairs, overlooking the gardens

We stayed at Regina Giovanna in July last summer and spent 9 days there. The Hotel is located among olive and lemon gardens and has a charming private beach. Our room was spacious and very beautifully furnished and decorated with a sea view from an oval window. We enjoyed good breakfast which one can have inside or outside. This hotel is for those who want to relax in a peaceful and beautiful place, wake up to the birds' singing and enjoy the sunset on the hotel terrace. It was not a problem for us to walk 100 m up to the bus station to go to Sorrento. Twice a day, if you book it at the reception beforehand , a hotel shuttle can take you there. The hotel staff was always helpful and efficient. Manager at the reception Rosa was very attentive and knowledgeable. This is a place we want to come back.

Room Tip: The rooms with oval windows are spacious and have magnificent views.

The hotel has a private beach, lemon and olive groves and a fantastic view. Quiet and serene area away from the hustle of Sorrento but not far, 10 minutes with a car. Rooms are very large, especially for Italy. You enter through and open courtyard which gives it a very rustic feel as it is so authentic. VERY clean and the staff was so helpful. Very good breakfast in cozy dining room. They also serve dinner, but we didn't eat it there. We stayed three nights and it was wonderful....far better then anticipated. On our next trip to Sorrento, we will be staying here. One note: it is a bit difficult to locate as it is behind another hotel and past private iron gates. That is because it is so near the water. Our GPS did not recognize the street because of this. Bit of a hassle but so worth it!

Room Tip: Request a room with a view of the gardens/water.

We spent six days at this stunning hotel and found it to be a wonderful base for trips around the Bay of Naples, or perfect for a relaxing day by the sea and in the gardens.

I’m surprised to read the poor reviews on Relais Regina Giovanna, as these appear to be based around its location? The location is part of the charm of this hotel, so don't be put off.

This is a secluded peaceful place, set in an olive and lemon grove (we made our own lemonade - gorgeous), and the view out towards the Isle of Capri made for a very scenic sunset. The private cove is small and cobbled; it was never busy or noisy, and was great for a quick dip in the sea.

To us the staff were excellent and always so helpful, they helped us find the right public transport, shuttle buses, and tours. They were very accommodating and good-humoured when we locked ourselves out (at all hours!) or wanted to borrow things!

Food in their restaurant was lovely and the service impeccable, the waiters were both very friendly and also kind enough to chat to us in English as we just couldn't master Italian language. The olive oil in the restaurant is homemade and oh it is good! Sitting outside for dinner with a bottle of wine in the quiet of the countryside is a fantastic start (and end) to any evening. Life was made very easy with the breakfast buffet, with plenty of fresh fruit, great coffee and open until 10am for the lazier mornings!

We had no car, and found no trouble in the short walk uphill to the bus stop where buses run frequently into Sorrento. We had dinner in town on several evenings, and transport back was not a problem.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who likes their accommodation to be unique and away from the madding crowd. If you are not active, you may want to bring a car to get around the area.

To Rosa and Marigrazia, the lovely girls at reception, Thank you for you help and patience. We a had a fantastic break, plenty of laughs and wonderful memories.

Stayed here early August 2012 and found it to be a wonderful break at the end of 3 weeks constant travel in southern Europe. It's out of the way and a car would be helpful, but then you would have to drive on Italian roads with the Italian drivers. Rather take a bus thanks. There is a steep walk down to the hotel and then another to the beach but we found this to be a fun part of the place. Greeted by smiling young lady who could not do enough for us. This was followed by excellent meals and service. We found a friendly smile and courtesy to the staff was more than repaid to us. Didn't like Sorrento as it was peak season and very crowded so were glad to be a little out of town with the peace and quiet. Good value meals taken in the outdoors. Thankyou to all staff for looking after us.

Room Tip: Take a train out of Naples to Sorrento, the taxi driver ripped us off
