Coltur Suites Sorrento
Ranked #76 of 100 Hotels in Sorrento
Reviewed November 4, 2010

Sorrento is a beautiful, small, bustling city and Coltur Suites is a wonderful place to take in the views and have some quiet time away from the town centre (but you will be serenaded by the bells).
Our one bedroom apartment was immaculately clean, comfortable, well equipped and within a 15 minute walk to the town centre- depending on which maze of streets you took and how many stops you made along the way. We especially enjoyed the fabulous view from our two large windows that looked out over the Grande Marina. Breakfast and evening quiet time was spent on the balcony (for two) taking in the activities in the marina, the lights of the hotels on the hills and distant Naples, and the ferry boats coming and going from Capri.
We picked up our keys at the Central Hotel and checked in quickly. Francesca was helpful and looked after all our requests.
If you are looking for a modern, efficient apartment to take in Sorrento and surrounding area (Pompeii and Amalfi Coast) we would highly recommend Coltur Suites.
Public transportation is easy and inexpensive to visit Pompeii and all the Amalfi Coast towns as well as Capri. Only requirement- strong arms (if you have overpacked) and legs as walking is the easiest way to get around.
PS Some amenities were available for use at the Central Hotel (WiFi, swimming pool, fitness centre, restaurant) but too far away to use them.

Ask for the renovated large apartment with 2 bathrooms and the huge terrace. Loved going down to the marina little market, and in the evening at the nearby fish restaurant over the water. We started with the small apartment and moved to the larger one the 2nd night for the rest of the week. Having 2 baths, including a bathtub, was perfect. we also took our dining room set onto the terrace and ate there most days, as the weather was perfect. After the hubbub of central Sorrento, we enjoyed the longer walk back "home" each evening.

We stayed in Room 300 (slept 4) and Room 800 (Could sleep 8). Spotlessly clean, great service, great views. We sat with drinks in evening overlooking the harbour. Beds were clean and comfortable, loads of pillows and towels. Just a short stroll to local shops. Its a perfrect location for getting round Sorrento on foot. Francesca is a wonderful host.

Coltur suites are lovely self catering apartments with beautiful views of the old marina in Sorrento. As highlighted in previous reviews, the apartments are a little tricky to find and accessible by a series of steps down an alleyway so mobility is required!

The suites are a separate building part of the Colonna Hotel Group. You may use the hotel facilities but we never did as they were at the opposite side of Sorrento and we didn't have time as were only there for 3 nights.

Francesca was an excellent contact, emailing me with answers to my queries in advance of our holiday. As the suites are situated away from the hotel we had to agree an arrival time.

You need to pay a 20% deposit on booking, the balance 30 days prior to arrival and a refundable security deposit of euro 100,00 on arrival.

Coltur suites are located above Marina Grande in Sorrento. Access is by foot only as there are stepped alleyways whichever direction you approach from. Taxis can access a road which is about 100m from Coltur Suites. The main areas of Sorrento with restaurants and bars are a 5-10minute walk. Marina Grande also has a number of restaurants which are less than 5mins away.

The apartment we (2 adults, 2kids) had was a 2 bed, 2 shower/WC with a terrace. It was compact and clean and the AC was a highlight at the end of each hot day! Checkin was efficiently done by Francesca who provided all the information we needed.

Only downside is that on some websites it states that use of a swimming pool is vaialble at a 'nearby' hotel, which in reality is about a 25min walk or 20 euro taxi drive away. That said it was a nice pool, area with food/bar.

All in all a good experience and I would recommend it

Our first trip to Italy was well researched. We both retired and wanted this big 30 day journey to be organized yet fun. One area we enjoyed tremendously was Sorrento. We hunted through a few websites and even TA and found excellent and affordable accomodations in the Grande Marina area. The area is packed with fantastic restaurants and smaller hotels set into very steep cliffs. We chose to stay for 5 days/nights at the Coltur Suites. We were in touch often with the manager of the Suites/Apartment lodgings. Francesca. She was gracious and informative and effervescent upon our arrival. (It was hard to find but she led the Taxi to the proper hidden alley) The Suite is a one bedroom with bright clean clean bathroom/shower and 2 twin beds (small but clean white fluffy comforters and very comfy beds) and 2 balconys (only one you could sit on) overlooking the ocean and marina , with the Isle of Capri off in the distance. TV also. There was a glass elevator for the heavy luggage and I was thankful as our room was on the top floor. I did sleuth out the room too. Private mosaic tiled deck upstairs to watch the sunset by!! Fishing boats coming and going below us made for great stays on our small balcony with our morning coffee. We had a small kitchen so spent a little time walking the cobblestone alleyways of the touristy parts of Sorrento (10 minutes from us) to buy the bread, tomatoes, wine, cheese, olive oil, etc etc from the local store. Every space is utilized. Every inch. The shop owners were keen with us as we'd practice our Italian on them. We ate out each night but packed a little food with us when we walked or took a tour in the daytime. It all seems to help the budget somehow! I did take a peak (on cleaning day) of the other accomodations at the Coltur Suites. There are 3 floors of rooms and it's an odd shaped building so each floor has studio and 1 bedroom and 2 bedrooms and bigger suites. We were very impressed - the rooms offer lots of space but I believe only 9 or 10 rooms offer ocean view. Our 1 bedroom was approx $550 cdn for the 5 nights. I would return to the Coltur Suites in a MINUTE. It was central, clean, authentic and nicely priced.

After a tough ride from Rome to Sorrento, via Napoli, we arrived at the location and had Francesca waiting for us.

Francesca, from the agency, was great. Her English was fine and she showed us around the suites.

The views from the balcony were lovely and the place was roomy for two of us. It was an easy walk to town too.

The reason why this is only 2 star are two things: the ants and the sheets.

This was in December and we had a bathroom full of ants. We were told to "just spray" the bug spray and then housekeeping would clean up.

They never came.

So, imagine dead ants that we had to clean up and live ones we had to constantly kill.

Secondly, we had very itchy sheets. It was a very uncomfortable time for me sleep-wise. The linens were rough and not conducive for good sleep.

I'd try somewhere else.
