“Cute and friendly hotel”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

We stayed here for 2 weeks at the end of May beginning of June and we loved it. We requested a room away from the main road but was told we had to pay extra, we told them the extra prices were too high and they gave us a room away from the main road in the annex at no extra cost. The breakfast buffet was always well presented however we prefer something hot and this was more breads and pastries so we only used about 3 times, we also didn't always get up in time as they stop serving at 10am. The pool and sun bed area was lovely, great views of mt Vesuvius on clear days and the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed the 20-25 minute walk to Sorrento as there are plenty of shops and bars along the way. Sorrento has great transport links if you don't hire out a car, the trains took us pretty much everywhere, we visited Pompeii, Vesuvius, Herculaneum, castellmare, Naples, and Rome even though we had to get another train from Naples to Rome. We hired out our own boat from grande marina at sorrento and went to Capri and positano. This was an amazing holiday and we loved it every minute of it and hotel girasole made this holiday very enjoyable for us.

Room Tip: Away from main road!

We stayed at the Hotel Girasole and found it to be a really nice little hotel. Location is good and it takes about 20 minutes walk to get into the heart of Sorrento. Hotel was clean, comfortable room with a really good shower. We opted for a garden room facing away from the road and although a little more expensive was well worth it as the hotel is on the main Naples to Sorrento road which is very busy and can be noisy. Good breakfast of cereals, meat, cheese, bread rolls, fruit, cakes, yoghart, orange juice, coffee and tea. We usually stay 4 star when we visit Sorrento but decided to give the Girasole a try and were not disappointed. We were on a B&B rate and ate in Sorrento every night and were impressed by all the restaurants. This is our 4th visit to Sorrento and we found the prices had risen quite dramatically since our last visit about 3 years ago. We took the boat to Positano (return) at a cost for two people 57 euro. One course lunch at Cafe Positano (with wine) again was 57 euro. Back in Sorrento if we stopped for a lager and a wine it was always 10 euros. One course meal in Sorrento with wine was coming in about 38 euro which wasn't too bad. Staff at the Girasole are very nice and will make you feel very welcome.

Room Tip: Pick a garden view room for peace and quiet. Also some rooms have attached balconies with no privac...

Good location and great view from our balcony. Great value. Provided a very good base for exploring the region, although it was a little walk out of town. Extremely friendly and helpful reception staff

We recently spent 3 days at Hotel Girasole in Sorrento, and wished it could have been longer. The hotel was lovely and quaint, the grounds were beautiful. The staff was very helpful and friendly, they made you feel at home. The location of the hotel was central to everything.

the hotel is lovely, and the staff are friendly and happy to help, however we found it a bit unreasonable that the only way in which we could get a room that was quieter was to pay 15 euro extra a night. The problem wasn't the noise from the road, we were not bothered by this in the slightest, however we did have an issue with the fact that everytime someone in one of our neighbouring rooms flushed the toilet or had a shower it sounded as though a hoover was being switched on in our room.

when we mentioned to the night porter about the level of noise ( having been kept up until 2am with the noise, which then started again at 6am) we were told there was nothing he could do.

It is a great location, and is a great base to stay at for travelling around the local tourist sights, but the fact that for the whole week we were there we maybe only had 2 nights of uniterupted sleep, bearing in mind we stayed during the off peak season so there weren't actually lots of guests about that week anyway!, i would not recommend staying here on a standard room basis, and definitely do not stay on the ground floor, we were in room 23 and it is honestly the noisest room we have EVER stayed in, in any country before, including various busy city centre hotels!

Room Tip: Do not stay in room 23, or any of the ground floor rooms!

My Mum and I enjoyed a wonderful weeks stay at Hotel Girasole. We stayed in room 38 - the view straight ahead was of beautiful hills / mountains, to the left, the Bay of Naples and Mount Versuvious and below, the beautiful garden with its numerious orange and lemon trees and flowers everywhere. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean, the staff all lovely and the breakfast (the breakfast room overlooks the garden ... or you can eat outside in the garden) was delicious - pastries made in heaven! My Mum and I spent a very relaxing day reading beside the pool after we'd exhausted ourselves exploring Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast (a 'must do' organised coach tour) and Capri. The pool bar serves a light lunch if you wish - try the speciality: mozzeralla cheese and tomato, wrapped in parma ham then baked in lemon leaves picked from the garden - delicious!

The hotel is about 25 minutes slow stroll into the centre of Sorrento but if you're not in a hurry, its a fabulous walk with fantastic views of the coast line and the mediterranean sea. Sorrento's lanes are a treat.

Room Tip: As for a room overlooking the garden and 3rd and 4th floor rooms will give you a good view of the Ba...

The owners and staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful. The weather wasn't brilliant when we were there and Rita would always check the weather forecast for us.
The rooms are spotlessly clean and the towels and bathmat were changed frequently.
The gardens are lovely and full of flowers. We chose hot chocolate out of the vending machine for breakfast and it was lovely.
The only reason we have not put 5 stars is the location. The hotel is a little walk out of the centre. This was not a problem for us, but could be a problem for the elderly with mobility problems, however this is not the fault of the hotel

Room Tip: Rooms facing away from the road are quieter.
