A lovely family run hotel just outside Sorrento within walking distance of town but if you don't like uphill walking beware - round trip took us 20 minutes. The rooms were comfortable but a little small and the advertised toiletries not as good as expected. Excellent staff. The food could be better - not well presented and often not very hot. Loved the grounds and had beautiful view of the sea.

Room Tip: Rooms with balconies overlooking the sea great view but no sun afternoon. There are two rooms with...

We stayed at La Badia hotel Sorrento in May 2014. It was a wonderfully relaxing hotel with olive groves all around where hammocks invited you to laze in the heat of the sun. A beautiful azure pool was very tempting too. The room we had was very clean, towels changed every day. There was a gorgeous little terrace with table and chairs overlooking the bay of Naples. The restaurant provided a very welcome meal every evening and it was lovely to taste the fresh ingredients which were bought daily in Sorrento ensuring fresh delicious food. All in all this hotel was a fantastic place to return to having toured all day. I would definitely return.

As other Trip Advisors have said this is a good hotel - but I had some misgivings
1. Evening meals had to be selected at Breakfast time
2. The menu is described as local cuisine. If you don't like pasta or unusual fish you miss courses
3. Most of the hotel guests are British from Riviera Holidays. A more international menu would be better.
4. On one evening - described as a gala night, there is just a set menu with no choice and at a set starting time
5. Whilst the hotel is in a glorious cliff top position, Riviera Holidays state they provide free taxis to and from the town. However these have to be booked the day previous and have to be return trips - not just the trip back up the hill!

Stayed here for a week in October as part of a Riviera Travel Package. We had room Rosa which was quiet, clean, balcony with view of Vesuvius and Bay of Naples ( ignoring the satellite dish). Wardrobe space was restricted and no tea making facilities but everything was clean and comfortable and the shower was always hot. The air con was switched off but that was only an issue on first night. Breakfast was good choice but for an area renowned for its oranges the chemical mix dispensed by machine was awful. Evening meals varied from disappointing to OK, not really good Italian cuisine, limited choice and poor desserts. Staff however were very friendly and efficient, with 3 waiters capable of serving all diners with no delays. Good public areas and excellent views from the terrace. Fairly easy walk to town but a bit slower to return! House wine and coffees reasonably priced and Wi-Fi close to reception was OK. Could be very good with an improvement in the kitchen department!

Room Tip: Views (and size of balconies) varied a great deal but not all have balconies.

My husband and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at this beautiful and friendly little hotel, easy walking distace from the town though far enough away to offer quiet tranquility. Our room (10 bis) was very comfortable and had the most fantastic view over Vesuvius accross the bay. The owners could not have been more helpful and friendly, even gave us a lift to the station when we left.

Room Tip: 10 bis very worth the little extra cost

Just got back from one of the most delightful hotels we've ever stayed at. By road - the winding Via Nastro Verde it seems the back of beyond - though we knew it had a courtesy coach down to Sorrento city. In factb the adventurous driver could get up to it in minutes using the Via Capo de Monte that climbs steeply up from Marine Grande - which is Sorrento's best little beach resort. A spepped path cuts out the bends of Capo de Monte and it took me 5 minutes to get to Sorrento down hill but over ten minutes back up. The hotel is superbly endowed with nooks and crannies to sit - both inside and out. There is a place under the olive trees (there is a very large olive grove surrounding the Hotel) and two hammocks are tied invitingly above a viewpoint of Vesuvius and the Bay. There is ample seating round the ci cular pool and the large terrace -used on most warm nights as the restaurant though there is one inside with 30 tables and a bar next to with comfortable arm chairs. Your room will have a lovely view but the two chairs are best for hanging your jacket over the upright back; and the balcony chairs are wrought iron.... but the beds are comfy Food is excellent with lots of choice and the waiters and all the staff are friendly and efficient. I see someone has complained the towels are like tea towels thin and hardly absorbent. However the bath towel is huge and dries quickly and they are changed EVERY DAY. However for 1 euro you can have the biggest fluffiest most absorbent bath towel EVER to take to the pool and you keep it all week -changed if it hasn't dried overnight, so who cares about those handkerchief thin things anyway? There is a lift down to the lowest rooms but there are two enormous rooms down there with a terrace and a picnic table in the olive tree grove outside them which cost a few euros more: Your heaven will be even more heavenly if you get into one of those; go on the web and ask Marissa for one.

We stayed here from 4-15th September, and cannot fault this very special place. Marissa and her family are an excellent team, and her staff complement the family - all are professional, welcoming and friendly, without being intrusive.

My husband had long harboured a wish to visit La Badia - with a particular desire to stay in Room 10bis - and we achieved this by booking directly with the hotel, many months in advance. Our trip was all, and more, than we had hoped it would be.

Other reviewers have more than adequately covered the provision of this lovely hotel. No review, though, can quite capture the ever-changing beauty of the view over Sorrento from La Badia. Early morning mists, signalling the start of autumn; the first woodsmoke of the day drifting down over the cliffs towards the Marina Piccola; the shimmer of heat around the base of Vesuvius and distant Naples; the late afternoon light as the sun reflects off the water and cliffs; the sunsets over Ischia, which would bring a sudden lump to the throat, as one tries to grasp the changing beauty of the day's end. The piney scents, the sounds of cicadas and hens, the refreshing coolness of the planted interior, the pleasant heat of the balconies, the somnolent shade of the hammocks, the scurry of lizards, the great broccoli-like pine trees. All this, with the uncomplicated grace which is La Badia, cannot be captured in a travel brochure, but this is what awaits you as you walk through the iron-arched gateways and into this other-wordly place.

Room Tip: Room 10 bis.The only suite. Corner room on 1st floor. No balcony, but double opening large windows on...
