“Patron Saint Of Sorrento”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2012

Beautiful basillica in the heart of Sorrento next to a park that also remembers Saint Antonino, the patron saint of Sorrento. The walls for hte church are adorned with frescos recounting the many miracles attributed to Saint Antonino, and out in front of the church there is even a large jaw bone that supposedly came from a whale from which Saint Antonino had saved a small child. The church is very pretty and worth stopping by to see. When we were there there was a volunteer who explained some of the history...very interesting.

“Island of calm in a busy street”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2012

I stumbled upon the Basilica di Sant'Antonino rather than specifically intending to visit. In it's favour it does very little play up to the role of "tourist attraction", it is what it is, a peaceful church.
The bulk of the decoration is highly coloured marble, I suspect both real and painted. Without any explanation a lot of the art work passed me by, I suspect it would have more resonance for Catholics. It was good to see that this isn't a frozen "exhibit" there is a modern stained glass & photos as well as the older works.

“Worth a visit”

The Basilica di St. Antonino has a lovely atmosphere with CDs of the Latin hymns being played quietly in the background. There are side aisles where devotion to The Sacred Heart of Jesus, Ss Joseph and Anthony are given.
