Grand Hotel De La Ville Sorrento
Ranked #14 of 100 Hotels in Sorrento
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 17, 2010

My daughter and I stayed here the first week in May,our first time at the De La Ville, having been to Sorrento previously, and what a wonderful holiday we had.
The hotel is elegant and charming, rooms are spotless, and the staff are welcoming and professional, but the real jewel in this hotel's crown is it restaurant. The food is divine,a varied menu, all fresh daily, and then we have the restaurant staff and believe me they are an exceptional team...Enzo is the Maitre D,a true gentleman,Carmine Assistant,Giuseppe ,Fabio and all the waiting staff ,each and everyone a big thankyou for the excellent service you give, making it an extra special holiday.
We would certainly recommend and will definitely be returning.

I stayed at Grand Hotel De La Ville Sorrento with my husband, sister and brother in law. From the moment you step inside the hotel you get good service in all areas of the hotel. It is a lovely old world type hotel with wonderful decor. The hotel is also exquisitely clean. Enzo runs his restaurant in a business like fashion but also extending a warm welcome to every guest. The team supporting Enzo is also very efficient and courteous. All in all our second holiday in Sorrento was as good as the first one.

We were visiting Sorrento for the first time so wanted a hotel which was within easy walking distance of the city centre so the Hotel De La Ville was ideally placed being about 5 mins walk from the Piazza Tasso. The Hotel itself is beautiful and spotless. I couldn't get over the fact that no matter what time we used the lift, which was mirrored, there wasn't a finger print in sight! Our room (No 215) was large and had beautiful inlaid wooden furniture and a huge, comfortable double bed. We had a small balcony which caught the sun late in the afternoon (just right for a G & T before getting ready for dinner!). Although we weren't high enough for a clear view of the sea & Vesuvius we were happy. The restaurant serves a good choice of quality food at breakfast and dinner. We had booked half board but thought we would eat out some nights as we like to try different places, however, we only went out for one night as we enjoyed the dining experience so much. On that day we swapped our evening meal for a packed lunch which we took with us to enjoy at Pompeii. The restaurant staff were all very friendly and super efficient, although we didn't feel rushed at all. The Maitre D, Enzo, was charming and quickly seated us on arrival for our evening meals. Most nights we chose a very nice local wine from the wine list at 17.5 Euros. The drinks in the hotel were expensive, however, we found this was the case in all of the tourist areas, as usual. The cleaning staff were also friendly & efficient and were most of the reception staff. We only used the roof terrace & pool 3 times as we were out and about most days. The views from the roof were excellent and although the area isn't huge we didn't have any problems getting a couple of sunbeds, although I think this could be a problem later in the year when the hotel is very busy. We didn't use the other downstairs pool. Highly recommended hotel.

Well we stayed in the Grand Del a Ville for just under a week as we were attending a wedding in Positano.

From the moment my fiancé and I checked in, we were made to feel very special and welcomed! We knew instantly we were going to have a great stay in this hotel! Our room was on the 5th floor (garden view balcony room). The room was very spacious and well furnished, Flat screen lcd tv etc. We had everything we needed and lots of space to unpack our cases. The blackout shutter was a great touch if you wanted a lazy morning in bed!

All amenities were excellent, with friendly and helpful staff. We stayed on a B&B basis and looked forward to going down to breakfast every morning. The atmosphere in the dining room was great, lots of banter between the waiters and the all the guests. Nothing was too much trouble for them and all the staff were only too happy to oblige! The house keeping staff were top notch and on the ball in my opinion. Every morning we were greeted with hello’s and goodbye’s as we came and went from the hotel! We made the effort to learn some basic phrases which was greatly received by all the staff!
My fiancé and I didn’t have any evening meals in the hotel, not because of any issues, simply because there are so many great restaurants in Sorrento … we felt we had to try them all (we failed to do that lol..)! Don Vicenzo’s being our favourite! But after speaking to other friends and family who had booked the same hotel but only on a half board basis, just like breakfast, the evening meal once again had a great atmosphere and a more than ample selection of dishes to choose from!
Like any hotel regardless where you go, drinking in the hotel will be expensive but as a previous reviewers have commented, you’re on holiday and there are several local shops within a couple of hundred meters where you can buy pretty much anything you need!

The hotel itself is within easy walking distance to Sorrento town centre and train station (5min walk max.). It does take a little longer to walk down to catch the ferry to Capri. But all is easily explored with little effort and there is a walking trip around Sorrento (Tue’s & Thur’s) leaving from reception. The Grand Del a Ville, as others have mentioned, has great views! You can see Mt Vesuvius from the roof top bar/pool, as well as the rooms situated at the front of the hotel.

All in all we had a great stay and would definitely recommend the Grand to anyone going to Sorrento! The staff at the hotel are certainly a credit to it!

Booked this Hotel through Thomson from 9/4/10 to 16/04/10 and had a thoroughly wonderful holiday. Ended up staying until 21/04/10, all paid for by Thomson. Our rep
Mandy gave us updates twice per day and was very informative. Stayed in Room 510 which overlooked the sea and Mt. Vesuvious. Woderfully clean room, the maid service was excellent, nothing too much trouble for her. The food was excellent. Enzo and his team made you feel special and attended to all our needs. Location is ideal for getting around as the Train Station is a few minutes walk (ideal for Pompeii and Herculaneum) and the local buses are also nearby. We were made welcome at the Hotel throughout our holiday and would definately return.

We had a garden view balcony room on the second floor. Rooms were very generous, especially the bathroom. All amenities were excellent, with friendly and helpful staff. Easy walking distance to the town centre and train station, with a longer walk to catch the ferry to Capri. Handy local convenience stores. Views of the gulf and Mt Versuvius from the roof top bar and pool.

I stayed in this lovely hotel with my civil partner. We were in room 120 and it was fantastic, although we didnt have a sea view it didnt matter because our balcony was massive, and overlooked the lovely gardens. My partner is vegeterian and we loved the food, we had fantastic waiter service and Enzo is very welcoming. The bar staff are really nice especially the lady waiter she is lovely. The rooms are spotless, maid service everyday and she kept our room immaculately clean. Flat screen Tv, channels are fantastic with the latest movie channel. We cannot fault this hotel it really is a little bit of luxury and cant wait to return. Teresa and melody
