This hotel is fabulous.
The staff are courteous and friendly, and efficient.
The views from the back bedrooms and terrace of Vesuvius and the Bay are stunning.
The menu is top with sea bass and king prawn available as part of a standard package holiday half-board.
The car-park works on the road side of the hotel have ceased again and the site was abandoned when we stayed, but I imagine it could be a spoiler if they recommence and you are on that side.
Best pay the extra and get the view as any noise will be non-existent from there.
The last reviewer said "North Americans Stay Away",I was surprised so many still visit there considering the exchange rate, and Sorrento is an expensive resort,
Personally,I wish they had stayed away, they are loud, rude and lower the tone of what is a fabulous location.
Got a bit sick of hearing all the " Now let me tell you" and " I'd just like to say" hyper decibel loudmouths.
Take it from me this is a great hotel.

Stayed at the Europa about a year ago. Just saw this spot to post a review about a week ago so here goes. I have lived in a tourist area and worked in the Hospitality Industry for a number of years.

The Europa Palace has a spectacular setting and is a beautiful hotel. Great view, lovely deck area, dining room and lobby.

On the flip side:
When we arrived and were checking in, we noticed the staff making snide remarks, under their breath. I was part of a group of about 20 people. In Italian they voiced there unhappiness with us being American. Actually, we were Canadian but they didn't see any difference. That was the start. The rooms were ok but there was never any hot water to take a bath in (no real showers in the rooms). We were there in the middle of a very hot heat wave so that became really frustrating. They seemed very annoyed when we asked for help to get the TV to work also. Then the pool was NEVER open for the few days we were there. Very frustrating when you are there with young people. The food was average as far as I am concerned.

If it hadn't been such a beautiful location, the stay would have not been worth the money. Hopefully they will address the staff's attitude and open the pool to make it more enjoyable for their guests.

We had our wedding reception at the Europa Palace in September and had the most amazing day! We stayed for a week aswell in a junior suite looking over the bay and Mt. Vesuvious, unbelievable views, we had 3 balconies and the bathroom was huge! no shower, just a tub but we didn't mind. The wedding reception itself worked out better than we'd imagined it could, we started off with aperitifs on the main terrace followed by the meal on another terrace. We'd 61 guests with us and everyone had a great time. The staff, led by Rafael and Antonella, made sure everything went smoothly, and the food & presentation was perfect. When it got dark in the evening we went indoors to the bar, a beautiful big room, nice chandeliers and the barman made amazing mojitos!!We'd organsied our own band, the they played until about 11.30 and the bar shut at 12:15. Had a bit of a singsong then and the hotel didn't complain about the noise until about 1:00!! We couldn't recommend the hotel enough, and although some things aren't as you expect in other hotels (no shower curtain for example),remember it is Italy, not Boston!
Swimming pool was good too, it's saltwater but is shaded from the sun for most of the day so it's freezing. The private pier though is great for sunbathing and you there's steps down into the sea. Maybe I sound a little too enthusiastic but before we came over to Italy for the wedding we were apprehensive but the day turned out to be absolutely perfect.

The hotel and its gardens are beautiful, and if you're lucky enough to get a sea view room set into the Sorrentine cliffside (as we were), then the views across the bay of Naples and Vesuvius are simply stunning. That made the holiday for us.

I have to agree with other reviewers that some aspects of the hotel are below what I expect of a 4 star. For example, a few places in the hotel show some sign of wear and tear (the gym room was pretty antiquated and under-maintained), and the quality of the breakfast was somewhat below what I expected. The main bar and dining room are wonderfully decorated though, and a pleasure to be in.

The staff were very attentive and professional, and the private beach and bathing area (reached by the hotels own lift down to sea level) made for a very enjoyable stay.

Location is fantastic, close to the both the harbour and the town centre. (5 mins walk)

All in all, maybe slightly overpriced, but with enough redeeming features to make it well worth a stay.

  • Liked — Superb sea views from rooms.
  • Disliked — Cold coffee every day at breakfast.

What a waste of money!

4* this hotel is not, if only we had read some of the other reviews before we booked.

The hotels location is amazing. Great views close to town and the station, and the lobby and sun terrace give the appearance of a very lovely hotel but this is where it ends.

Our room was dated to say the least. With the air coinditioning only on for a couple of hours a day we found it hard sleeping with either the heat or the noise from the building site opposite and the early dustbin round (3.30am!) if we opened the window for air. As for our bathroom......I have stayed in nicer travel lodges, everything was old and our shower flooded the bathroom every time we used it.

Despite complaining we were not moved and did not even reveive a token gesture from them as an apology. They really did not seem to care. From chatting to other guests at breakfast we found that everyone was feeling the same.

All in all, this is a basic hotel with unfriendly staff, poor food and poor service.

Spend your money else where.

We stayed for two nights at the Grand Euorpa "Palace", and had quite a few difficulties. This hotel calls itself a four star, and I would, by american standards, give it a two star, if it werent for the great view you might get if you're lucky enough to have a room that faces the mediterranean. We booked this hotel about two weeks before we were scheduled to arrive in Sorrento. Before booking, we had a special request - we needed to leave our car at a hotel while we spent one night on Capri - this hotel was happy to allow us to do so, which was great. While on the phone, we asked them if a room with a view was available during our stay - they said there wasnt, but, that our balcony would have a view of the water. We agreed, and booked the hotel. Upon arrival, the staff was nice, and as promised, we were able to park at the hotel. When we returnd the next day from Capri, we checked into our room. When we walked in, we noticed VERY dated decor, but the room was a nice size. When we walked over to the balcony, and opened the shutters, we had the glorious view of a construction site! No water, just street, noise, and construction. We then walked into the bathroom to notice that there was no shower! just a tub.... needless to say, we weren't happy. We called to complain, and they said there was nothing they could do until the next day. We decided to grin and bear the construction site, knowing that the following evening we would view the sea.... little did we know the room's air conditioning was not working - thus we had to open the windows at night to get any cool air - which normally would have been fine, except, the construction began at about 7:00am!!! Needless to say, we were pretty upset. We went to complain, and they, at first, gave us a hard time, telling us we were the only ones complaining (at 260 euros/night). eventually, probably to shut us up, they gave us a nicer room, with a tiny shower but a glorious view.

All in all, I would say the rooms themselves are old and dated, the beds are pretty uncomfortable, and the staff is not the greatest (except Peppe, the bartender)... I would rate this hotel 3 stars, maximum. If you're lucky enough to get a room with a view, the scenery is fantastic, though.

We have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Europa Palace, where we attended the wedding of our good friends.
The hotel is absolutely beautiful and helped make the fantastic holiday we had. The staff where amazing and helped in everyway with regards to the wedding. They organised as much as possible from transportation to dry cleaning and they could'nt do enough for the bride and groom. On a personal note, my girlfriend and i were treated fantasticly and the service was amazing. We stayed in room 206 looking over the bay and the view was breath taking. The room was extremely clean and done so daily. We felt that it was EXTREMELY cost effective and a real bargain, although it was'nt the cheapest. The lift that takes you down to the jetty is fantastic, and as you sunbath there you can watch the yachts come on go.
All in all, you can't go wrong with the Europa Palace and it will give your holiday that little bit extra.

  • Liked — It's location to the coast and to the centre - amazing.
  • Disliked — Possibly, lack of parking.
