I have just come back from staying in this gorgeous hotel for a week as a family.

When we arrived at the hotel, we went straight up to the reception level. The view was breathtaking! Someone has commented that they watch new people walk in a trance to the edge of the terrace looking at the view. Which is exactly what we did! It's absolutely stunning!

We quickly got our room key, and went up to our room. The room was much better than expected, it was big and spacious, and nice to cool off in after a day in the sun! It was spotlessly clean and we had new towels every day. From our window we could see Mt Vesuvius and were overlooking Sorrento, and the Bay of Naples. It would have been even better if we had payed for a balcony.

We headed straight up to the rooftop pool, we got given beach towels to use. We did get sun beds, but we found out later in the week that if you want to get some sun beds, make sure you are there by 2/3 pm! The pool itself is amazing, with a jacuzzi section that overlooks Sorrento!

The location of the hotel is perfect, and is just a short walk from Sorrento town itself. I don't think you would want to stay in a hotel closer to the town, as you would experience a lot of traffic noise, also the views are better further up the slight hill where the hotel is.

We then went down onto the terrace for dinner. We were given a menu with about five options for starters and mains, With vegetarian options. There were fresh desserts every night with an option of ice cream (which was delicious!).The staff were very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was also of a high standard, with a wide selection of food, such as different types of cereals, to bacon and eggs, to fresh croissants, to fresh fruit juices. Everything was delicious, although breakfast was buffet style, dinner was with waiter service.

We also went to Pompeii, it's a must see, but definitely GET A TOUR GUIDE! We made that mistake and we regret it. It's only €10 p/p for a group tour, well worth it! We also did the Amalfi coast, we took the ferry there, and got the bus back! It was the best way to do it we think!

Overall it was a wonderful week, at the most beautiful place, and we would definitely return. If you are thinking about booking this hotel, do it! You will not regret it!

Six of us (all adults) just got back from Sorrento and stayed at the Hotel Minerva for the last 5 days in July. This hotel was beyond fabulous. The location was great, just up the hill from the lovely town down below with your choice of all kinds of restaurants and only about a 10 minute walk which was perfect after eating dinner. The hotel is perched into some cliffs with the most unbelievable view of the sea below. You even get this view from the rooftop pool. The six of us would meet every night for pre-dinner drinks on the gorgeous terrace and visit with our waiter, Antonio, who has personality galor and accomodated us all with special drink suggestions and of course conversation. The staff at this hotel is unbelievable and more than once, they made travel suggestions and then arrangements for pickup for tours, restaurants and also avoiding the nasty train back to Naples. We would come back to this hotel in a minute and loved every minute of Sorrento.

Room Tip: The sea view rooms are all excellent and quite a variety of choices.

As soon as we walked through the door, we knew this was going to be a lovely hotel. We are staying here for five nights, to unwind after a hectic tour through Italy. As you enter the main door, there is a slightly musty "underground" smell. When you look closely, you realise that there are bits of the hill poking through the wall, showing that the hotel is literally clinging to the hillside. We were shown to our room by the porter, who was a lovely man. The room is quite large, even the bathroom. Everything we need is here. We opened the window and were blown away by the magnificent view over Sorrento, the Bay of Naples, and Mt. Vesuvius. We don't have a balcony, but the view is to die for.

There is a jacuzzi, and a pool with plenty of sun lounges to laze on. The water in the pool is not cold at all, and is crystal clear. And the pool deck also gives a magnificent view of Sorrento. We'll be spending a fair amount of time here, I suspect.

Breakfast in the restaurant was excellent. Some reviews have said there's not much variety, but we think it includes everything any other hotel has offered. Plus they have fried eggs, instead of the usual scrambled. The orange juice is the best we've had in Italy, and they have apple juice! I've been craving apple juice the whole time we've been away.

Despite what some reviews have said, the wifi in the hotel is free, and the signal in the room is very good, so we were able to Skype family back home. The staff are friendly and helpful, and we're finding Minerva to be a great choice in Sorrento.

We walked into town last night. It's an easy ten minute walk down the hill. The sidewalk is very narrow, so the traffic seems very close, but it's easy to be distracted from the traffic by the magnificent views. Even the walk back up the hill is quite leisurely. Stay here if you come to Sorrento. Lovely hotel.

Just returned from a holiday in the Hotel Minerva, & have to agree with the majority of the reviews the food is excellent fresh & plentiful & the staff especially in the restaurant are great fun but totally professional.

However our only gripe would be the room it was a bit dated but scrupulously clean & we had problems with the bathroom the shower was far to low for my hubby as he is 6ft 4 & the water pressure is extremely low, but my major problem was the hair drier, it was totally useless my advice would be to take your own.

Room Tip: i would try & get a room with a balcony as the room we had did not have one & it has such wonderful views it would of been nice to be able to sit out & view them

The staff really make this hotel. Nothing is too much trouble , we commented that there was not a mirror in the dressing area of our room and that night while we were at dinner one appeared. The food in the evening was good and plentiful. Breakfast selection was a little disappointing. Franco runs a tight ship around the pool area but a really nice guy. Would recommend this hotel for the service and the stunning views.
