“Great service with stunning views that just blew me away!”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

We had an amazing stay in this delightful and friendly hotel and the wonderful town of Sorrento. I definitely recommend booking with thomas cook as we were able to book the lovely day trip to Amalfi which provided a lovely shopping day and boat trip. The Capodimonte's staff were always providing quick service at reception and restuarant/bar but with a smile and friendly approach. In particular the staff working at the pool snack bar were very friendly and you could have a laugh easily with them which was lovely if you want a relaxing holiday. Sitting in the pool snack bar for lunch had delicious food, best in hotel in my opinion but also was so lovely to sit by the pool with such amazing views of Sorrento and Mount Vesuvius; the hotel is set very high up into cliffs and so has great views of coast and the terrain as well as the culture. The hotel had 5 pools including hydromassage that all join on different layers, absoulteyl unique design. However for an elderly person with poor health and would not recommend this hotel only because it is full of steps even though theere are lifts. It is an excellent get away hotel for family or couples with the beatiful town of Sorrento just a 2 minute walk away on main road!

Room Tip: At the travel agents we didnt pre select an ocean view room when we could have, and were given a ga...

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for your kind words, we are glad to learn that you were satisfied by your recent stay in our hotel.

We will convey your feelings to the staff, they work very hard in order to deliver an unforgettable experience to all of our customers while being extremely polite and friendly and your words, together with those from other reviewers, will surely make them happy.

The design of our swimming pools is surely unique and offers breathtaking views over the bay and Sorrento town; the restaurant there is also the perfect place to have lunch or sip a cocktail, just as you pointed out.

Overall we’re happy that you were satisfied by the food and location of the hotel and we are already waiting you for your next visit.

Best Regards

Good stuff - Location is a 30 minute walk to the train station and 10 minute walk to town centre or St Anna centre. Room is good size, good views and clean. Pool is nice with a great view too. One lady on reception was brilliant with customer service.

Bad stuff - Still at a complete loss for how reception thought it was acceptable to wake us up at half midnight on first night demanding a passport he'd forgoten to ask us for. No iron or board in room. Road outside is very noisey and as its bendy the traffic have to beep their horns to warn they are coming. On the whole the staff were not rude but not welcoming. The pool is so badly managed many guests seem to reserve beds with a token personal iten for the whole day even if they are barely there, so unless you're up early you'll be lying in an odd corner away from the pool. TV only has two english channels that arent news.

Really bad stuff - Drink and food prices are obsurd!!! G&T €11 each, Chateaubriand €70 (no side)!! Worse the quality of food is no better than that of mass produced canteen food found in the low rate all inclusive resorts.

My advice - forget overpriced hotel food and average service. Go self catering you'll need to buy your food but you'll cook better and it'll be better ingrediants. Or find a B&B where your treated well and the food is less choice but good quality.

Room Tip: The hotel is on a hill in many buildings. Any room with a view of the sea is good, any without are f...

Dear Guest,
Thanks for your review on Trip Advisor we are always very happy to be able to reply to our customers feedback and we take note of their opinions so that we can improve service in the best way.

You've highlighted our best points. The location: close to the center, a short walk from Sorrento and its nightlife and a perfect start for trips. The rooms: finely furnished and spacious with attention to cleanliness so important to us. The pools: they are the most beautiful in Sorrento with breathtaking views.

Unfortunately, our proximity to the center can cause problems with traffic, but this is the price to pay for being a 10-minute walk from the main square, but usually the road is not very busy at night, we apologize if during the your stay there was an abnormal traffic but we would like to clarify that with the windows closed you can’t hear anything, being the windows with double glazing. You made us smile with the horn history because indeed often the Italians use the horn as a greeting ... but this is the Italian style!

You're right for the pool, it is true that many customers leave their towels or personal belongings to keep the bed and, believe us, we always try to avoid it with adequate surveillance of the pool, but it is very difficult.

Concerning the food quality, price and service. We were very surprise about your feedback, because prices are more or less the same as the Sorrento’ restaurants and the service is usually praised by many customers as for our kindness as for our helpfulness.
Instead, our products are always fresh and subjected to careful controls. We always try to meet every need giving the option to eat either in half board with a wide range of meals choice or in a beautiful à la carte restaurant.

For the passport, we beg your pardon, but we had to have it because in Italy the law requires us to record all customers.

Iron and ironing board are available for guest but you have to ask to the front desk.

We would be very pleased if you will give us the pleasure of having you again as guests at the Grand Hotel Capodimonte in order to show you that our quality standards are not the same as you described.

Best Regards

Had a fantastic 10 day stay in mid-June to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We paid extra for the sea view room and were delighted with the wonderful views of Vesuvius and the Bay from our large balcony. The room itself being large and furnished to a high standard and very comfortable. We took a travel kettle as we knew there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The Hotel lay out took some fathoming as reception is on 5th floor, then going up to our room on the 4th! The 5 pools are fantastically designed cascading down with plenty of sun loungers on several terraces.Breakfast buffet was excellent especially the Prosseco! We were half board and all the meals were good. Echoing other reviews all of the staff were lovely, especially the waiters. Not much entertainment in the Hotel but with the town only 5 minutes walk away thats where we went every evening after dinner, into the drains (small side streets) of Sorrento with lots of shops and Cafes to browse. We did our own trips to Pompeii and Herculaneum by train (cheap), Capri (expensive) and Positano (breathtaking). All in all a fantastic holiday. We will return.

Room Tip: If you can afford the extra go for a sea view although some, above floor 8 I think, are a long way f...

This was our 14th visit to this hotel. This hotel is about a 10 minute stroll from the centre of Sorrento, but there is a bus stop right outside the hotel. We never bother with a sea view room as we don't spend a lot of time in the room. But the "cliff" view is actually more a terraced garden view, so it's not unpleasant. The food is very good, a lot of choices for both breakfast and dinner, also the lunches served are excellent and not too pricey. The staff are very courteous and friendly without being obtrusive. The views from the hotel are superb with Vesuvius just across the Bay of Naples . The only suggestion I could make to improve this hotel is that there should be a box for gratuities , which can then be shared out amongst all the staff, rather than you leaving tips with waiters, bar staff , cleaners etc. We will return next year.

There were 11 of us staying here for a family wedding and not one of us had any cause for complaint. The hotel is very good at everything without being exceptional.

Superb location, being a few minutes walk into the main part of Sorrento and perched high up with simply stunning views over Vesuvius and the bay of Naples. The vista from the terraces and restaurants is fantastic.

The staff were very competent and professional and we booked trips through the hotel as well.....Vesuvius and Pompeii I would strongly recommend.

The room was impressive and had class and character and a welcome change from so many soul less, dull typical hotel rooms I've stayed in.

In summary, I thought the hotel was a perfect place to stay in Sorrento, good value and ideally situated.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the bay of Naples....it will cost extra but it's worth it.
