We stayed in this gem of a hotel last week in September for my 40th Birthday. We had an amazing holiday and this was mainly due to the friendly staff and the amazing views of the hotel. Our friends and us both had a room in the basement and the view was over the hills and the fruit trees. If we returned we would ask for these rooms as they were so quiet. The food was varied and on the last night we had a gala dinner which completed our stay. I hope we can return again soon.

Room Tip: rooms on the bottom floor are quieter than by the road

Pros:- Generally well appointed; fantastic position; Restaurant Food good and reasonably priced; staff all excellent (with 1 exception).
Cons:- Booked a 'superior room' with a sea view - well I could see the sea (just), but not what I would call a sea view; breakfast was dire unless you like cardboard cereal, hard boiled eggs, ham and cheese on stodgy bread and awful coffee!! So easy to provide some nice fresh local bread and fresh fruit! Beds were also pretty uncomfortable and lots of dogs barking at night. I booked a double which is not the same as 2 singles pushed together (which is what we got) as double beds are longer (I am tall), and you get the right bed linen for them!! The times of the courtesy bus are not good - they are never when you want them!!
It wouldn't take much to get 5 stars from me because the hotel is generally good and the things that need changing are very cheap and easy to fix, but unless these are changed I wouldn't stay there again (mainly the bus timetable and breakfast).

the trip was in the last week of September into the first couple of days in October. This was the second time for us to the Sorrento and found the experience better this time due mainly to the Hotel. Although situated a short free courtesy bus ride out of the town the views made it worth while not to mention the the peace and quite from the hustle and bustle of the town. You need to note that the courtesy bus does stop at 12:30 for the obligatory siesta and does not resume until 5:30 (in my opinion a tad late because 5hrs is a lot of time to kill if you happen to miss the 12:30) so be aware. The Hotel was comfortable , clean and tidy the room was the same, plus a balcony that you could sit out on. The food was very good the pasta course (Starter) was to die for, (in my humble opinion), there was a also a soup alternative. A good selection for main with both a fish and meat (chicken) plus veterinarian option. Breakfast was buffet style as with most Hotels in this part of the world with a good selection of breakfast fare.... if you were looking for bacon and eggs, full English sorry, The Staff were very friendly helpful and very accommodating in all I had a great holiday in a wonderful atmosphere and great Hotel.

We stayed at the Vue D'or the last week in September and would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a nice relaxing stay in Sorrento.

It is situated a short 15 minute, on time, bus ride from Sorrento centre, which gives it a sense of tranquillity away from the hustle and bustle of Sorrento Town.

The hotel itself is immaculately clean and yet comfortable, the staff are very friendly and more than helpful in answering any queries you may have about the locality. The rooms are very good and most have a balcony with a view of either over the valley and pool or for a little extra views over the bay of Naples including Vesuvio.

The food is authentic Italian and the portion size was perfectly suited to us and was absolutely delicious. There was always a vegetarian choice although that was something we didn't need, particular highlights were the pasta starters ( a meal in itself!) and the swordfish amongst others. Look out also for the Gala evening it is truly unique and is a must to attend if you are there!! Breakfast is your standard contintental affair with a good choice of cereals, hams, cheeses, pastries, tarts, fruits, yoghurts...... the list goes on.

The Shuttle bus is extremely punctual and takes you into Sorrento very quickly. Be sure to check the timetable otherwise you may invent departure times that don't exist (we thought there was a bus at 11.15am, but there wasn't so had to wait by the pool for an hour until the next one at 12.15). There was plenty of room for everyone and all in all very good and regular. But as in previous reviews it stops running at 12.15 and doesn't start up again until 5.15. This is standard siesta time and did not impact on our day what so ever.

I have mentioned the staff before and they are worth mentioning again, I think they are all family and they could not be more helpful or friendly to us.

All in all we had an excellent time at the Vue d'or and I cannot understand any past negative comments about this hotel. If you want a cooked breakfast stay in the UK, the food is Italian and very nice, the staff are not rude and never seem to hurry us.

Stay at this hotel!!

Just returned, first visit to Italy, really enjoyed the holiday.
Agree with the other travellers reviews, however we did not specify the type of room we wanted and got one over the main entrance facing the road. View was fab, no problem with traffic noise but the room was very small but with a comfortable king size bed.

Sorrento great, try taking the local bus or train, very cheap and if you miss the courtesy bus you can buy a bus ticket from the bus station or tabbac or news agent to St Agatar and get off outside the hotel or from the village and take the cut through the olive grove, takes @ 20 mins to walk.

Ask at the hotel as i believe they also sell bus tickets that can bbe used on all the buses, very cheap way to get around. 7.20 Euro will by a 24 hour ticket that you can use on all buses so you can get off and on when it suits. Be aware they do get a bit crowded, try and get the bus timetable which also gives the train times.

Enjoy.

Just come back from La Vue D'Or. The extra cost of the balcony and sea view was absolutely worth it! We asked for a quiet room and were put on the 4th (top) floor (with lift!). The balcony looked over the Sorrento, Bay of Naples and Vesuvius, also the rural area and olive groves below and in the hills around. There was some interesting rural noise whilst sunbathing - turkeys! The free shuttle bus to Sorrento was great and went absolutely on time. Watch the siesta gap in the bus timetable. Sorrento is lovely with narrow lanes and masses of shops, don't miss the 'GLOVES' shops where you can get great leather bags and gloves. Food with the tour group was a bit variable, the Italian food was best with an aubergine meal coming out tops in our view. The starters are as big as the mains. There is a fantastic tiled roof deck for sunbathing with the best views ever and a cool pool, very bracing at the beginning of October. The staff are lovely and friendly and sorted out my hat and a bag I left on the bus for me. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Room Tip: third and fourth floor rooms looked like they had the best views.

Stayed 7 days, September early October. A very nice Hotel, very clean, pleasant and relaxed, a very comfy lounge with lots of large settees and chairs. Excellent situation out of Sorrento, not walking distance but a very good free shuttle to Sorrento and back several times a day till late. Incredible view over Bay of Naples, especially from the top terrace, lots of sunbeds, and children not allowed on this top one so very peaceful. I think most rooms would have a good, if not sea view. Very pleasant staff.

Food, typical package but very acceptable. Breakfast offered the usual continental cheese, meat , pastries plus cereals, eggs, toast etc but thank goodness no full english, [ you're in Italy ] Evening meals served at your table, while main courses were not over generous, the starter was often a meal in itself. Drinks were quite reasonably priced. All in all very satisfied with the food, I felt well fed, very decent lunch time menu as well. I would definately use this hotel again, one of the best we have stayed in on a package holiday. Hard to fault it really, if you want the Dorchester go and pay Dorchester prices. Our tour company was Riviera Travel who were also excellent.

Room Tip: We had room 656, partial sea view and views over olive groves to mountains and sunrise in the mornin...
