“Sorrento Break”
Reviewed June 23, 2014

If you want a hotel that is only a short walk from Sorrento itself and convenient to the station and marina for day trips etc then this is ideal.

Very clean and well maintained hotel with a very polite and helpful staff, it had a lovely pool area to relax in and the buffet breakfast and dinner was excellent with great views over the bay of Naples from the dining room.

It seems geared up to the tourist trade in that although the hotel had the feel of a more exclusive property it had a very casual feel about it.

Conca Park was the ideal base for our visit to Sorrento. It is in a great location - you can walk everywhere in Sorrento and it has a pool. It is good value for money, the rooms are a good size and although basic they have everything you need. The cliff facing rooms don't get sunlight but are still good, the egg station at breakfast is great and the James Bond style entrance tunnel is fun. I would definitely recommend a stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: The cliff facing rooms are cheaper and quieter because they are at the back of the hotel.

The entrance way is like walking a long tunnel! Its well lit though and nicely tiled. Reception area is quite spacious and staff very helpful. We were on the first floor and found the room spacious also with big comfortable bed and reasonable sized bathroom. Not much in the way of toiletries. There was no kettle for a cup of tea!!Had breakfast there and found it quite difficult to find everything.Perhaps things were spread out too much. The swimming pool area is gorgeous and I do suggest you sit out in that area in the evening. So nice..Easy walk to town with heaps of shops and eateries Grocery just down the road to the left of the main entrance. Would not hesitate to return again

Amazing view, amazing food, amazing service. Granted I am friends with the hotel owner and he wouldn't let our stay by anything but amazing. Great lounging areas and pool. Just near the center of town so it's an easy walk. All around a great stay.

Room Tip: Get a room that faces the bay- those are definitely the best for early mornings and sunsets

I have recently returned from the Conca Park hotel which I booked through Thomsons and it exceeded my expectations. After reading some off putting reviews on here about the quality of the rooms, I was quite nervous as to what our room would actually look like.
We had room number 222 which was directly outside the lift on the first floor (which could get quite noisy as guests were returning from nights out/arriving at the hotel with cases and insisted on shouting in the early hours of the morning, thanks guys! Also, we were directly next door to the cleaners cupboard, which was also very noisy at times)
HOWEVER, that is the only complaint about this hotel. Our room and bathroom were very spacious and modern, the air con worked fine, it was always cleaned to a good standard and we had a nice pool view room with Mount Vesuvius in the distance.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming (especially Luigi!). There was a good selection of food each night and there was never anything on there twice, a choice for everyone.
The hotel itself is situated in a very convenient place as it is right by the main street of Sorrento but it away from all the noise. You can access the main street via an air conditioned tunnel (a godsend after a long day of walking around) or a side street that brings you out by the Hotel Ascot. One day, we were lucky enough to get a ride off the golf buggy as we were leaving the hotel that night (the driver was very friendly but I didn't manage to catch his name!)
Our Thomson reps Ash and Becki were amazing, always helped whenever they could and were very attentive. We did two Thomson excursions while we were there - Mount Vesuvis/Herculaneum and the Amalfi Drive. Giovanni the tour guide was incredible! The best tour we had there all week, he's an amazing guide.

All in all, the Conca Park is a brilliant hotel in the best location as other hotels were either actually on the main road or halfway up the cliffs. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would love to go back.

The good: a short walk to shops in town; breakfast is a massive buffet; friendly staff; our room had an excellent view of the bay, pool and patio; lots of lounge areas (if very tired looking furniture).

The bad: no room darkening blinds; very old style furnishings; one day we left at 9:30 a.m. and our room was not cleaned by 4 p.m.; one day no towels were left; soap scum in shower stall was just icky - see photo - but an easy fix!; AC "not connected" at this time of year but should have been; that long sloping walk up to the registration are is bizarre and (should have left the original road and stairs of years past).

The ugly: the bed was made of stone and this is what brought my rating down - a good night's sleep is all travellers REALLY need afterall; plan to be out in the evening if you don't care for club music blasted from the main patio area.

Room Tip: Get a room with the sea view. Some rooms seem to be a few feet away from a rock wall (private though...

Just back from a two week stay at the Conca Park (30/5 -13/6 ). This was our first visit to Sorrento and based on our experience we would be very, very happy to return to Sorrento and the Conca Park. Yes the tunnel up to reception is quite an odd experience ( and I imagine it would be quite daunting if you were infirm or disabled in some way were it not for the buggy/cart and the helpful porters ) but we only used it on the day of arrival and departure as we used the side gate by the pool area the rest of the time to exit or enter the hotel. We were in room 615 on the top floor. Our room was a good size, had lots of storage/closet space, was immaculately clean and had spectacular views over Sorrento, Naples Bay and Mount Vesuvius. Unfortunately rooms on the 6th floor, which is the top floor, do not have balconies unless you are in the Bond themed 007 Suite which has it’s own private balcony but costs an eye-watering 1200 euros per night as advised by a member of staff but I haven’t checked ! Rooms on all other floors do have balconies but I noticed that rooms overlooking the Mediterranean Garden don’t really seem to get the sun at any time of the day which may be a very good thing in July/August. The temperatures during our stay peaked at around 35c which is noticeably above average for the time of year. Too hot for me and the pool was a godsend. Due to the temperatures we wore a very high factor suntan lotion at all times. Except, of course, when we went down on the first morning of our stay to the Thomson’s induction meeting which we thought would be the usual meet and greet and trying to flog excursions which it was to a degree. We didn’t reckon on them tacking us on a walking tour of the town where they walk you from shop to shop, to restaurants and gelaterias etc etc which they obviously have some association with. Fair play but it took well over 2hrs, as we were an exceptionally large group apparently, and my wife and I both got burnt arms and faces which could have been easily avoided if we had known about the walk beforehand. You have been warned ! Having said that our reps, especially Ashley, were excellent throughout our stay. We found doing the Thomson’s tours to Capri and the Amalfi Coast were worthwhile ( the boat trips on these excursions were 10-13 euros extra but really enjoyable ) but would suggest you do Pompeii or Herculaneaum on your own by train ,as long as you share the cost of a guide when you are there, as those tours are not worth the money.
We both loved the food at the Conca and I really struggle to understand why anyone would criticise it. At breakfast you can choose from continental style bread, cold meat, cheese, tomato, boiled eggs etc or from hot food including sausages , bacon scrambled eggs and made to order omelettes. There is also fresh fruit (melon, pineapple etc ) and cereals. All bases covered I think ! You choose your own table at breakfast time and you are seated at your own table by one of the staff in the evening. Again there is a wide variety of fare on offer every night with everything from beautiful salads to roast beef /lamb/pork. My particular favourite was the rabbit and my wife’s the baked aubergine dish. There is also a different fish and pasta dish every night. The staff are invariably polite, helpful and very hardworking. Can’t say the same for some of our fellow guests who were almost unbelievably rude and arrogant. On one occasion I witnessed a female guest throw a strop because the young chef manning the dessert counter, who was wearing appropriate gloves, recovered the round of cheese she was hacking at having put her potentially mucky paws all over it. He politely offered to do it for her but was rebuked and she stormed off muttering to fellow guests “musn’t upset the staff”. Charming. Another guest rejected the cola brought to them at the poolside as it had been brought with a heavy duty plastic cup. They insisted on a glass despite the obvious health and safety risk of broken glass beside a pool because they had “bought and paid for their holiday” and expected everything to be done their way. Everyone else seemed happy with plastic cups and appreciated the service the staff were providing. They are employees of the hotel not slaves. Just because they have to put up with such arrogance and rudeness for fear of losing their jobs does not mean they are there to be abused or ridiculed
A particular mention should be made of the evening bar staff Mariano and Luigi. Great guys. Funny, friendly, efficient and can’t do enough for you. All drinks and food taken in the hotel are charged to your room so it’s a good idea to pay the bill regularly throughout your stay just to keep track more easily.
Outwith the hotel our favourite place was the fantastic “The Kiosk” risto-bar on the main road ( Corso Italia ) at the Piazza Andrea Veniero opposite the Bar Veneruso pasticerria. Fantastic family run place doing everything from chips to Aberdeen Angus steaks and drinks from beer ( cheapest Peroni of any bar/restaurant I frequented in Sorrento ) to cocktails and also a good selection of malt whiskeys and brandies. We also liked O Parrucchiano ( amazing lasagne and gardens ), La Grazie restaurant and Manneken Pis bar which was great for people watching ( especially on a Sunday evening when the Italian families parade ! )
All in all we had a fantastic time and wouldn’t hesitate to go back to Sorrento or the Conca Park.
