“Great location; no privacy”
Reviewed September 19, 2013

Just got back, Sep 2013. Fantastic views of Bay of Naples and Mt Vesuvius. Lucked out on Sept 2 and had a great fireworks show right out on the bay and close to our hotel. If you are looking for privacy than don't look here. Your terrace is beside everyone else's and you can look onto other balconies and so can everyone else. Breakfast was repetitive, same thing everyday. Dinner was good, lots of seafood. Quite a bit of a walk (15 min.) to town if you don't mind walking. Uphill was a killer. Very expensive transportation, especially cabs to and from rail station. Paid 200 Eu to go to Amalfi by cab for half day. Probably too much, but very comfortable. Very friendly staff. Beach was very rocky so don't forget watersocks, they really help. No regrets for choosing this hotel.

Room Tip: We had room 1 with a long terrace.

My husband and I have just spent 2 nights at this hotel and were extremely pleased with our stay from the warm welcome to the helpful staff on Reception, who organised a trip to Amalfi coast which was fantastic and you were picked up and dropped off outside your hotel for €35!

The room was superb, we had 2 balconies overlooking the Bay of Naples, it was really breathtaking! The linen & towels were changed daily and kept very clean.

We stayed both nights for meals in the hotel after a long day on a trip and I have to say its one of the best meals I've had in Italy, so was not disappointed.

The parking was OK, we managed to find a spot straight away but it does get busy, but with Luigi standing by to help it was no problem getting out when our car was blocked in!

Overall I would recommend this hotel, for the staff, the food and more importantly the views were 5*!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony, definitely worth paying the extra!

We stayed at La Tonnarella for 3 nights, the view from our room was simply breathtaking being able to see the bay of Sorrento and Vesuvius, our room was lovely,it was very clean with a nice bathroom with a good shower. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choices no complaints at all. There is a small private beach which is accessible via a lift. The hotel is ideally located just outside of main part of Sorrento and was very quiet at night, it is a 10-15 min walk into the main town which is worth doing as it is lovely in the evening with the main road being closed to traffic until 12, the location is also ideal if like us you wish to explore Positano, Capri etc.
We would definitely stay there again

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view of Vesuvius, well worth a little extra

My colleague had recommended this hotel and we were so happy to have booked there.

The service was wonderful. Whether it was taking care of our bags, service at the front desk, at the restaurant or at the seaside snack bar, everyone was very helpful and conscientious.

The hotel used to be a villa, and once you see the view of the town from there, you understand why they choose that spot to build it. When you stay in Sorrento proper, you don't get to see it. From La Tonnarella, you get the best views and you also get a private beach, from which you can also see the town. Having a private beach to go to was fantastic. It's a small beach but it's not overly crowded. The snack bar is right there and serves very good food. We had the seafood spaghetti twice, we liked it that much.

The room we had was spacious and clean, and so was the bathroom. The room had a safe, a mini fridge, and there was an outdoor patio where we had our lunch every day.

The breakfast had a lot of variety - pastries, cold cuts, breads, fruits, etc. Eggs, we have learned, is not something Italians really eat and they didn't seem sure of how to cook them. The scrambled eggs were hit or miss - some days they were liquid, other days they were okay. (The three hotels we stayed at in Italy all had the same issue with eggs.)

The onsite restaurant was excellent. Great views, great food, great service.

The hotel is a 15-20 walk from the town center, but it was a good way to walk off our supper at the end of the evening. The views walking into and out of town were always worth it.

I would go back in a heartbeat.

Can only comment on the room we stayed which was room 14
This was a room with views to die for the large terrace was at the side of hotel with views overlooking Sorrento the bay of Naples and mt Vesuvius in background. Terrace had a hammock 2 loungers table and chairs plenty of room to move around in.
The room itself was of good size but not much wardrope space. Bathroom was spacious but only a hand held shower to accompany poor antiquated spar bath
The room was just of the main road but we did not find it at tall noisy .At night put on a/c close doors and you do not here any traffic . This room is ideal for a couple. Yes I would come back but in certain rooms.

very small rooms, ants all over the room, 2 stars room, old furniture, bar empty. the bathroom was very small also the bathroom faucet . It's a hostel, not a hotel. The only good thing it was the view. It is a 2 stars hotel.
