We had a fantastic 2 week honeymoon staying here at the aminta from 13-27 August. When we arrived, the hotel upgraded us to a room with a sea view. It was quite a basic room and not much space but lovely views and very clean throughout. We stayed for bed and breakfast only; breakfast is served from 7.30 till 9.30 and there is a range of choice. You can also order breakfast off the a la carte menu if you want something particular (I ordered boiled eggs a few times, whilst husband ordered poached eggs-yum!) There is also a guy that comes round and tops us your tea/coffee every 10 minutes! You can also order latte/cappuccino at no extra cost but you do have to ask for this-he won't offer it.

The best thing about this hotel as many others have said is the staff-they are so friendly and will do anything to help you out. We got back only 2 days ago and I realised I had left my ring in the hotel-didn't think there was much chance of getting it back but after a quick email to the front desk they searched it out and are sending it back to the UK for us!

We walked into Sorrento every day (and back up again!) we are young and fit and still found the walk back up a struggle but used it as an incentive for burning off all those extra calories! If you are not so motivated then getting the shuttle bus is recommended. Sorrento is a beautiful place and there are lots of trips you can do (like others have said do these independently much cheaper)

Thank you aminta-we hope to return again soon.

Room Tip: We have said average for sleep quality as we were in room 108, which is just near the stair case so...

Hotel was lovely. Food was really good at the hotel, breakfast was quite early though! Not good for us sleepy lions. We stayed for a week, crammed in visits to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius and Capri along with chilled days by the pool. Much cheaper to organise the trips yourself rather than go on a tour, train was only about 4 euros for a return to anywhere on the circumvesuviana line (pompeii/herculaneum etc.) The shuttle bus from the hotel ran nearly every hour into town and the walk down was quite pleasant if a bit steep.
Tips for outings:
Under 25s get half price entry to the historical sites!

Pompeii - We got the train to Pompeii Scavi. The site is very large with little shade, be prepared for a fair amount of walking. It's probably worth it to invest in either an audio guide or a tour guide. We just had a book and found a bit hard to tell what things were and sometimes we'd trek to a point of interest only to find it was closed for refurbishment!

Vesuvius - We got the train to Ercolano Scavi then just outside the train station is a shop offering bus rides to nearly the top of Vesuvius for 10 euros a head, then once at the top it was another 10 euros to enter the vesuvius national park. It's a 25 minute climb to the very top, a bit steep and scraggy but not too bad. Make sure to pick a day when its not too misty at the top to get the best views!

Herculaneum - This is at the same train stop as Vesuvius (we did both in the same day). There are people offering shuttle buses to the site at the train station but its not really worth it, once you leave the train station square bit its down one hill and you're there. We got audio guides for this and was definitely worth it as none of the stuff there is sign posted. Herculaneum is much better preserved than Pompeii, definitely worth a visit!

Capri - This was an expensive day but worth it. The ferry was 37 euros each for a return from the marina grande in Sorrento. Once on the island we paid another 25 euros each for a boat trip around the island including a stop at the blue grotto. If you wanted to go in the grotto you then had to pay again (about 11 euros). You get in a very small rowing boat and go in the grotto, our guy was quite eccentric and let us go in the water inside the grotto (he pushed me in when I was hesitant!) it was an amazing experience though! Put your swimmies on just in case you can go in too! After this we got the Funicular up the hill to the town, quite pretty and lovely views but we couldn't afford much as it was all Armani, Prada etc. This was my favorite day of the holiday!

Sorrento town was really beautiful, lots of crooked streets to walk down and lemons all over the place! Fauno Bar on the Piazza Tasso was really great! Small cover charge but worth it as you get breads and limoncello shots :) Great holiday, had a whale of a time.

We loved staing at Grand Hotel Aminta. We stayed in the villa, with amazing wiev over the amazing landscape. The staff was very helpful, and it was a pleasure having breakfast in the restaurant with servers serving tea and coffee on a little wagon.
There was a free bus shuffle almost every hour from the hotel to Sorrento, 10 minutes, and back.
We would love to come back

We booked the hotel on the internet based on former reviews as part of a European driving holiday. The week at the Aminta was meant to be our 'chilling out' week. We weren't disappointed. First impressions - room clean, comfy and had beautiful views. I had booked a garden room but was thrilled to find that it had a beautiful sea view too. We arrived inbetween lunch and dinner so ordered a bar snack - two toasted sandwiches and two beers which came to 30 euros. We felt this was a little steep but, in fairness and hindsight, the pizzas and pasta dishes were much better value than the sandwiches. Pool area can be a little overcrowded but this varies day to day. We did reserve sunbeds on 3 occasions (4 euros each per day) but there is plenty of ordinary seating and comfy sofas on the patio area if all beds are taken. Pool lovely and refreshing. We had only booked bed and breakfast but everyone we spoke to raved about the evening meals to we upgraded to half board at an extra cost of 50 euros per night. This was the best decision we made. The food and service is outstanding. 3 courses of excellent standard and it was refreshing that men were asked to wear long trousers in the air conditioned dining room - evening meal was made special by this little formality and the impeccable way in which the dinner is served. The hotel has spectacular views but this of course means that to get to Sorrento town you need to catch the courtesy bus (hourly) or walk down a path - fine down but not quite so pleasant back up!! Courtesy bus fine but stops at lunchtime and half way through the evening. If the Aminta management could find a way to maintain the bus service hourly this would make a huge difference to the convenience of its customers. We consistently ended our evenings on the lovely bar terrace where we met some lovely people, some of who will remain friends for life. We would recommend this hotel to anybody. Thank you Aminta.

Room Tip: Don't be worried about opting for a garden view as the views all around are excellent. We were...

The hotel is perched on the hillside a couple of miles above Sorrento. It is possible to walk up & down to the town via an ancient, steep footpath. The views are stunning and the staff are unfailingly helpful. The rooms are well appointed and clean. The pool is decent but there is the usual scramble for sun loungers. There is an hourly minibus service but they don't do a run back at 10.30pm. Only 9.30& 11.30 - they should add this one as it would suit a lot of guests. If you have a hire car watch where you park - ours was scratched & dented when parked in front of the hotel. The parking across the road is more appropriate. However, we really enjoyed our stay and would use the hotel again.

Room Tip: We were fortunate to get a free upgrade tp a sea view

Our second visit. Family holiday with three girls. 11,11 & 14. Two connected rooms in annex. Husband with shellfish allergy, me with gluten intolerance. Thrilled that so many staff remembered us from previous visit.
Blissful summer holiday. Perfect blend of rest, relax, and culture. Great food, no allergic reactions and very accommodating chief. Restaurant manager very attentive, extremely efficiently (but quietly) run. Bar staff were great. Looked after all our daily needs always with a smile. We miss them already.
Far enough removed from town with stunning views. Reception Staff will help organise trips in any direction. Very much a hotel that takes pride in a quality experience. Sooooo looking forward to our next visit. Thank you G H Aminta.

Room Tip: Beds hard. Annex removed from hotel and therefore quiet.

I never normally write reviews but I have to for this hotel. We have just got back from our honeymoon in Sorrento. We stayed in the Hotel Aminta for 10 nights and had the absolute best time! When we arrived we were upgraded from the garden annex to a room in the main hotel with a sea view. The rooms are basic but very clean and the view was to die for! AMAZING!!!

All of the staff including the cleaners, receptionists and waiters were so friendly. Everyone speaks fantastic English and they also helped us learn some new italian words.

The weather was really hot and we found the pool really refreshingly cool. The pool area is really well maintained and you can pay €4 to reserve sun beds. We did this a few times but found that there was plenty of chairs spare during the day. The shaded pool bar was nice to sit in when it got too hot, although the food was quite expensive for lunch it was absolutely delicious and the portion sizes were huge - we shared meals in the end.

We went half board, we were a little worried about this as I've stayed in hotels where the food has been a bit dodgy. The food at the Aminta was absolutely delicious. Every night we had 3 course meals. On a Wednesday and Sunday night they have special events where they serve 3 starters, main then dessert. We were absolutely stuffed every night and vowed not to eat as much the next night but the food tasted too good to leave! Breakfast was just as good with plenty of choice. We went on a trip to Capri one day, we asked the hotel to make us lunch instead of staying for the evening meal - they packed us up a beautiful picnic absolutely full of picky food. We had enough to eat the next day. To top it all off, on the day that we left we had to set off at 7 (breakfast starts at 7.30) they packed us up some pastries and drinks for the journey to the airport.

I can't say enough good things about this hotel, we will defiantly be staying again!

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a sea view
