Returned home on Monday. Three of us, two friends and myself.
We used the hotel as a base for traveling around the area. Found it to be very clean, but room was basic. The 3 beds needed to be quite close together to accommodate them, not enough wardrobe/drawer space but we made do. Tea/coffee making facility would have been nice although room service was very prompt and not too pricey. Bathroom was a bit 'tired'. Needed new shower as it was very slow and difficult to adjust temperature of water. Balcony with sea views and overlooking the bay were lovely. We had bed/breakfast only, on reflection this was a very good idea. We tried the evening meal once, all having a different choice and none of us were impressed by the food. Speaking to more people, they were of the same opinion. Breakfast was buffet style (we could of had the a la carte option if we wanted at a premium), again, not wonderful but adequate. There are only so many croissants and pastries that you can eat! There were cereals and yogurts, cold meat and tinned fruit also. The courtesy bus was handy as it was a long trek into Sorrento, it runs hourly backwards and forwards up to 11.30pm. The staff were friendly and helpful. Ideal location for travelling around, we took public transport whenever we could for the experience. Went to Amalfi on the Sita (public bus) from Sorrento station and then took the Red Sightseeing excursion. We went to Pompeii on the train and then onto Vesuvius with tickets also bought at the station which included he admission into the National park (to get up the mountain). All of this was at a fraction of the price the hotel was charging for their excursions. Capri was also easy, just a walk from Sorrento town to the port and buy your ticket at the harbour and hop on to the hydrofoil for 20 minutes. We had a wonderful time, overall I would use the hotel again, but only on the same basis (B&B).

A very relaxing experience.
I'm on a gluten free diet, which was dealt with very efficiently by the restaurant staff. They always had gluten free bread available and the Head Waiter was always able to advise on which of the meal options were appropriate.
The walk from Sorrento isn't too taxing as long as you find the right path, which is the one just before the Hotel Bristol. It's a zig-zag, but there are steps in several places, which cut off the corners. The surface is good, just watch out for the scooters, which tend to free-wheel downhill.

Based on the reviews we read, we were looking forward to staying at the hotel to celebrate a milestone birthday having filtered through a lot of hotels before settling on this one. Firstly, the good - helpful, attentive and friendly staff and the upgraded sea view room in the annexe with stunning views overlooking the bay of Naples. The walk into town wasn't too bad either and only took about 15 minutes providing some great views of the town on the way down. We did make use of the shuttle bus but felt that we were constantly time watching in order to catch it back up the hill - the last bus back is at 11.30pm and none run between 12 / 12.30 and 3.30 in the afternoon - taxis are expensive at between 20 and 25 euros dependant on the time of day you use one.

Next the bad - we stayed in the annexe - slightly dated rooms, horrible and sticky shower curtains over a bath that could do with upgrading to proper showers, beds not fixed to the headboard and tended to move causing the headboard to bang against the wall, quite uninspiring breakfasts that stayed the same each day (only so many pastries a person can handle at 7 in the morning!), the noise from other sometimes inconsiderate guests in the annexe as the walls appear to be quite thin, the music being played and staff didn't really want to know.

Finally, the ugly - getting to the annexe you have to walk past the swimming pool and at certain times of the day you literally had to pick your way through the sunbeds as other guests obviously didn't realise this was the route people took - the alternative was to walk round the road playing chicken with the cars, lorries, buses and scooters that made this road quite busy at all times of the day (I don't think this has been mentioned in reviews before).

Overall, it was a good holiday but it was the little things that just took the edge of things a little.

Room Tip: Definitely try and get and get a room in the main hotel and not the annexe as this is can be a bit o...

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Aminta after booking a weeks holiday with Riviera Travel for our 30th wedding anniversary.
The Hotel was in a beautiful setting, with fantastic views over Sorrento. Watching the sun set over the bay was stunning.
Our room did not have a balcony (we didn't pay the supplement, so didn't expect one), but was clean and well decorated. As we were out on trips every day it was perfectly adequate for our needs.
The terraces and lounge area also had beautiful views over the bay.
The staff were friendly and helpful, with an extra special mention to the waiters, who made the dining experience a pleasure.
Free wifi was also a bonus to keep in touch with family back home and use the web to look at places we had, or were going to, visit.
On the down side drinks in the hotel were a little expensive, but this was the case in the majority of places we visited during our holiday. I also agree with the previous reviewer who said a 10.30pm return shuttle bus would have been much appreciated (we paid €26 for a taxi back at 10.30!).
We consider these to be minor problems though, compared to the lovely holiday we spent there.
We would not hesitate to stay the again.
Thank you for a wonderful holiday

Room Tip: Would probably help if you ask for a room away from the staircase to the 4 floors if you intend reti...

We spent a week in this hotel and have little that I can say negatively about it. The staff were more than helpful - we asked to change room as ours was a little noisy and nothing was a problem for them. The bar area & outside terrace offer views over the bay of Naples which are incredible both at day and night. A free shuttle bus is provided by the hotel into Sorrento every hour which is extremely handy & only 5 mins away, and is also very reliable & always on time.
We walked to town most days - highly recommend this, only takes 10 mins and is all downhill and the views never get old! Walk back up takes slightly longer (maybe 15 mins) and is quite steep but easily done.
The only negatives I would have is that there is no bus at 10.30 in the evening (this is the only hour in the evening the bus doesn't run). A lot of evenings 11.30 is a little late if you are getting up early for day trips the following morning, but 9.30 is a little early so a 10.30 bus would be highly recommended.
Also, the main swimming pool is all deep - there is no shallow end which you can stand at, and if you are not a strong swimmer but enjoy a dip this can be a hindrance.
All in all it is difficult to find fault with the hotel and it is a great location for a relaxing stay!

Room Tip: Rooms right on the stairs are noisy - stairs are marble and shoes (even flip flops!) can be heard wa...

Great hotel with very helpful and friendly staff. We had a very comfortable stay and our room was very nice and clean. Our room had a balcony with lovely view of sea and the food was very nice. The hotel also provides a free shuttle bus every hour to and from Sorrento which only takes about 5 mins. Would be happy to stay in hotel again.

Room Tip: Try get room with balcony and sea view

The staff at the Grand Hotel Aminta were extremely helpful in enabling me to enhance my parents’ special 50th anniversary trip to Sorrento and Capri. By communicating with the wonderful hotel staff by email from Sussex, I was able to arrange for some beautiful flowers and a bottle of decent Chianti to be in my parents’ room for when they arrived. The hotel couldn’t have been more helpful. I had complete peace of mind that my (possibly unusual) request would be carried out.
Thank you Grand Hotel Aminta, you helped me to celebrate with them.
