“Great value, not the Ritz, in a central location.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2014 via mobile

We spent one night in July. Wish we had spent two nights. Hotel Desiree is a small, well run, clean, humble hotel just up the hill from the Center of Sorrento. The staff were friendly and attentive. The room was simple and clean. The bathroom was large and clean. The shower was fabulous. The breakfast was very good and the woman who worked in the breakfast room was very gracious. We had been on the Amalfi Coast and were on our way to Capri. We had just a fan and no AC,thankfully it was not super hot and humid. It is good, decent hotel for those on a budget.

We stayed here in July 2014. As others have noted this hotel is about a 10 ten minute walk from the center of Sorrento. It's uphill but not especially strenuous, plus the views of the town and coast are gorgeous. It has a nice little beach that is shared with another hotel. It's great for swimming (bring flip-flops or water shoes though--the coastline here is rocky :-) and better still, not overly crowded. We swam every day.

The staff are very helpful in suggesting tours and things to do in the area, and the hotel is very clean. Rooms are simple and on the small side, and the beds are pretty hard. The hand-held shower nozzle was a bit of learning curve, but not unpleasant. These are minor quibbles though, considering the price and location of the hotel. If you request a balcony room, you'll be treated to a million dollar view of the bay of Naples and Vesuvius in the distance.

Another highlight was the amazing breakfast. We're used to American hotel included breakfasts. Sometimes you're lucky to get a hardboiled egg and doughy bagel. At the Desiree, you get fresh Cornetti--delicious little italian croissants--and a spread of fresh cheese, tomatoes, pickled eggplant, yogurt, apricot preserves, and best of all, fresh breakfast cake. We couldn't get enough of the Walnut or the Pistachio.

Overall, highly recommended.

Room Tip: Request ocean view.

We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon. It was a return visit, and we will be returning again and again. The staff is so gracious and accomadating, especially Antonio. They speak 4 or 5 different languages. The hotel is very very affordable. It is in a great location, away from the hustle and bustle of everything, about a 10-15 minute walk away from the city center. The rooms are very clean, and contain your essentials.

I stayed here with a group of 23 people in June/July 2014. There is a wide variety of rooms so you should ask questions when booking. Some have balconies which are nice. Some have nice views. Some take more stairs to get to. In general though they were all comfortable and convenient. Note they do not have air conditioning. Most rooms were fine with a good breeze from water but a couple got fairly warm. So ask about this when booking.

The location of hotel in excellent, just outside the noise of Sorrento but within 10 minute walk of main square and sights. The ferry's to various locations were only a 20 minute walk.

The hotel also has a beach which it shares with only one other hotel. So very convenient and private. It has a beautiful view of Vesuvius. We didn't know it when booking but there is also a nice restaurant bar down at beach which is convenient and and makes it difficult to leave beach.

The staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and constantly offered assistance, trip suggestions, and going out of their way to help.

There is a nice rooftop lounge area with a bar which was a great place to look over Sorrento and Vesuvius late at night.

The whole group would highly recommend this location to anyone looking to stay in Sorrento or needing a base for Almalfi coast.

Room Tip: Ask about room options. There is a large variety. Also ask about breezes since there is no a/c.

This hotel is a hidden gem...from the rooftop deck / bar to the quaint tiled floors throughout; from the cliffside elevator to the scenic walk to the pebbled seaside beach; from the knowledgeable, go-above-and-beyond owners and staff (hands down) to the amazing breakfasts and organic products provided to all guests; from the fair cost to the personal service (even from local restaurants!), we couldn't have asked for more!

Room Tip: Balcony room with a view of the sea/seaside room.

I'm writing this review from the rooftop bar 3 days in to our week long stay. I really can not rate this hotel highly enough. It's not ultra modern, the rooms aren't huge, it's a 10-15 minute walk from the town. BUT the thing that sets this hotel apart from any I've been in is the absolute commitment of the staff to making sure you have anything you need, nothing is a problem and everything you ask results in them going that little bit further than you would hope for. The rooms are spotless & cleaned everyday, the beach is perfect & much better than anything in Sorrento itself, the bar is a nice little surprise. We got married last week & paid more for 2 nights in a 5* hotel than we've paid for a week here & 3 days in we feel more looked after, cared for & welcome than anywhere we've stayed.

We especially enjoyed the rooftop deck and the breakfast with more than just pastry: yogurt, cereal and more. Room and plumbing were nice with lovely patio, a glimpse of the sea. Many steps down to our room. Staff was great. We liked being up on Via Capo. Ten minute walk to town, maybe twenty minutes to the train station (on sidewalks.)

Room Tip: Some rooms have a view.
