We stayed at the tramontano hotel in september 2012, very clean hotel and great how the maid cleane.d your room whilst you where at breakfast. Enough selection at breakfast to see you through the day. only downside was that we where not allocated a room with a balcony ,despite requesting one before we went, the views would have been great and made our stay even better. though you can sit on the bar balcony to appreciate it , drinks are not too expensive , but obviously they do charge more than other places.
would strongly recomend this lovely hotel

Room Tip: Try your hardest to get a balcony room ,not sure if they charge more ,but would be worth it.

I booked this holiday for my husbands 60th Birthday and we were so looking forward to it. Could not get a sea view for the first 2 nights but paid upfront for the next 5 nights. Standard rooms were fab and were comfortable, large and airy. Moved to the sea view room 414, what a disappointment, tiny room attic style with a small window with a wall in front. Yes, we could see a view of the bay but got a stiff neck to do so. The furniture and bedding were old and worn, the wardrobe door was hanging off and the loo seat broken.
On brighter side the location was wonderful and the breakfast was very good with very polite and helpful waiters. Beware of the front desk staff.

Room Tip: Ensure that you do not get rooms 412 to 422 attic rooms that onlt the sevents in Downton Abbey would...

My husband went as far as to say probably our best holiday ever and considering we try to get at least two a year that is saying something. The hotel was lovely downstairs the dining room and bar beautiful. Our room wasnt the best we had ever had but very typically Italian. Our sea view was a bit obtuse because we had to go out onto the balcony and look around the corner of another room. We loved Sorrento and only breakfasted in the hotel as there were so many lovely restaurants to try and only a short walk away.

My husband and I are quite surprised and confused by how high some of these other user ratings are (and the hotel in general). While there has obviously been great attention paid to the hotel exterior, lobby and grounds (which would definitely deserve a 5 star rating), the same care and attention is seriously lacking within the rooms themselves.

The pros:
Beautiful building set in beautiful landscaping
Warm & friendly (although not overly helpful) staff - more on that below
Location - a quick walk to the neighborhood streets of Sorrento (tons of shops and restaurants), as well as private elevator access to the beaches (which are also a quick walk from the ferries to Capri, Positano and Naples)
Views from the room - We paid for a deluxe sea-view room and the view from our private balcony did not disappoint
Complimentary breakfast - which was quite scrumptous and served in an unbeatable setting (dining room overlooks the bay of Naples)

The Cons:
Noise - the hotel room floors are covered in Mediterranean tile, the hallway floors are all marble. The only thing separating the two is a thin wood door in a thin wood frame. Unless you are a VERY sound sleeper, you have absolutely no prayer of sleeping in later than 7am (housekeeping stars very early at this property, plus tourists are up early wheeling suitcases).
The Bed - incredibly firm mattress (which for some might be a plus!), with equally firm, flat pillows. Coverlet on bed looked old and tired (sheets were clean and crisp though)
The furniture - while all pieces were coordinated well enough, nothing technically matched and nearly all pieces had chips, dents and scratches (included a photo below)
Wifi - You have to pay for it (which, in this day and age, is suprising...and a little greedy, especially given how much you pay for a room here!) and you're only allowed to connect one device at a time.
Staff - As mentioned above, hotel staff was warm & friendly, but everything we asked for was given a somewhat negative response (wifi availability, late check out)
The price - this was one of the most expensive hotel options for our trip and, thanks to lack of sleep (and what was achieved was uncomfortable anyway), it definitely wasn't worth it (we paid more than $400 USD/night).

All in all, this hotel was a particular disappointment (particularly coming from Rome where we paid less per night and were given so much more for it). However, upon speaking to other tourists staying in other hotels, their reviews were pretty similar (beautiful property with rooms that were uncomfortable and in need of an update). That said, you might want to consider shopping around for a better price (for a similar experience).

Room Tip: The one thing we loved about this hotel was our sea-view balcony - definitely pay for one if you cho...

This was are third visit to the hotel and each time has been fault less! All the staff and friend and willing to help at any time if you need it. We booked a sea view room with balcony, not all the rooms have full balcony however we were very given a room in the lower ground floor with a fantastic view however it did get slightly nosiey in the afternoon because of the beach below. The breakfast was grand with ceral, fruit, yoghurt, pastries, hot food (sausages, bacon + eggs) and cold food (ham, cheese + tomatoes), there is something for everybody. We asked for a bagged breakfast one day due to a early morning trip, the chef provided so much food it lasted all day!! We will definitaly be returning within the next couple of years!

From the moment we arrived and were greeted at the car to the moment we left 7 days later we enjoyed every moment of our stay at this wonderful hotel. The service at the Tramontano was second to none. The reception we received was warm and welcoming. Our bags were collected from the car and delivered to our room while we had lunch in the restaurant by the pool. When we entered our room, senior suite room number 215, we were impressed by the size and layout. Our (very comfortable) bed was huge and was on a mezzanine floor above the large living area. The room had two TV's, both with Sky, a dining table with 4 chairs, a matching sideboard, 3 piece suite, a drinks cabinet and a fridge with side cupboard. The room had the most wonderful view of the Bay of Naples with a French balcony, which meant although we couldn't actually sit outside we could pull up two chairs and enjoy looking out over the marina, beaches and Vesuvius. The bathroom had both a bath with shower attachment and also a separate walk in shower. The air conditioning is very efficient and so quiet you are hardly aware it is running. The housekeeping was second to none with clean linen every day. The cleaning is to an extremely high standard and all done by an invisible housekeeping team!

The only meal we had in the restaurant was breakfast and this was good with a fair choice. The waiting staff were excellent giving very fast but calm service.

All of the staff we met at the Tramontano were helpful, cheerful and courteous but a special mention goes to the young man who operates the beach lift. He was so pleasant and although his English wasn't the best in the world he always greeted us with the hugest of smiles and chattered away as if we were the most interesting of people (which of course we are!).

One downside is the pool and pool bar closing very promptly at 6 pm, such a shame when it is just the right time of day to have a swim in the cooler temperatures and then an evening drink on the sun bed before going up to change for dinner.

Second downside is the prices charged in the mini bar in the bedroom. 6 euros for a small can of coke is excessive by any standards.

However despite those two small criticisms above, and as said in previous reviews, you cannot beat this hotel for service, location and views. I would certainly love to go again and would recommend the Tramontano to anyone visiting Sorrento.

The hotel is beautiful and set up on the cliffs. There is an outside terrace bar with fantastic views. The staff was so friendly and helpful. They have an elevator that goes right down to the beach. It makes relaxing so easy. We loved it and will definitely return.
