We stayed here 3 times in 2010; June, Sept and Oct (no I don't see that as a problem...ha ha). We did a week in June and loved it so much we returned in September for 11 nights. I then booked a suprise break for my mother in October-I was torn between here, Dubai and New York but knew mother liked here so much, I decided it was the best bet (nothing to do with the fact it is my favourite place on Earth, of course...)

Upon arrival (on each visit!) everyone has made us very welcome. The front desk staff are all fantastic, very welcoming and cannot do enough to help you.
Antonino and Tommaso in the bar are brilliant! They provided us wth a variety of cocktails, which are far better than any I have had in Manchester or anywhere else for that matter! The bar is kept immaculate and they are very attentive. Not forgetting some very informative conversations! The drinks are not at all expensive either.
The dining room staff are wonderful, there are some real characters in there! Valentino and Giovanni run it so professionally and are real gentlemen. From Ferdinando (who seems to have a cheeky grin on his face most of the time!) to "The Watch" (young lad with a very nice watch, Salvatore?) not forgetting the delightful Francesco, Antonio, Giorgio, Paola and Guiseppe (who wasn't there in October :-( ) they are all fab!
The food is very good, better than you receive in the majority of hotels and is certainly of a very high quality. The lunch by the pool is very nice too (and very reasonably priced)
Must not forget the little omlette chef chap, he makes great omlettes! And the little coffee chap! He is so sweet!
Also our cleaner was adorable (Angela? She was small with darkish hair and glasses) I do actually want to adopt her!
The staff must be exhausted now it is the end of the year, they have an intense Spring/Summer/Autumn and having worked in customer service I know that by the end of the peak season you get really fed up and but still have to smile and be professional! I hope they all have a good rest-they all deserve it!!!

The location of this hotel is second to none, I was happy to stroll out in the evening (ie 11pm) on my own, it always feels very safe.

Rooms are also immaculate, well equipped and lovely balconies. The public areas are very nice too.

There is very good evening entertainment, notable the singer and keyboardist who sings typical Neopolitan music. Also the fiddle/mandolin chap who is lovely and so, so talented.
We had 2 trips to Capri (in October-another 2 in Sept and 1 in June...), spent far too much money in Roberto Cavalli, Cesare Paciotti and Valentino...and had lovely coffee by the marina (this justified spending in the shops...) I wouldn't go on the hydrofoil again, but then again I do get more than a little seasick! The ferry is a safer bet if you don't do boucing around on some huge catamaran thing very well!

We were also lucky to have fabulous company on our September visit; Marilyn I hope "the foot" is healing well! We have also found a nice boat for the Positano trip!

We used Sorrento Top Cars for transfers, very good service and will no doubt use them next year! And very reasonable rates too.

What I would say about the hotel is that it is not an "American" style hotel in that it does not have a state of the art gym etc. But this is a typical, beautiful Italian hotel, where the staff make it fantastic.
I will say a final thanks to Valentino, Massimo, Tommaso, Antonino and Ferdinando who always make our stays very special and entertaining!

Good lord, this was meant to be a short review...sorry...
Happy Holidays!!!

on a Viator trip from Rome for 3 days/2nights. It was very elegant yet the staff treated you like family. The restaurant food quality, staff service was 5-star. Would recommend it as the highlight of the tour!

Entering this hotel after staying in a closet-sized room in Rome, my husband and I were thrilled. Very spacious and bright. Rooms are large and beautiful and we had a gorgeous view from our private balcony. Food at the restaurant for dinner was hit or miss, though. The pumpkin pasta I had as an appetizer was wonderful, but the fish was extremely overcooked and inedible. Overall, the staff was very friendly and helpful and staying in Sorrento was definitely a highlight of our Italy trip.

We have stayed here on several occassions. It is a very comfortable hotel with traditional comforts and courtesy. The rooms overlooking the Bay of Naples are spacious and very well equiped. Good sized bathrooms with shower and bath, large mirror and lovely marble fittings.
Internet access in the rooms and large flat screen TV.
The communal areas are very spacious and comfortably furnished, both inside and out on the terraces. The pool is clean and a good size.
Excellent reastaurant if you choose to eat in but there are plenty in the vicinity to give you variety.
The Staff are very polite and attentive.
A very comfortable place to stay and we will return I am sure.
The area has plenty of interest from the Amalfi Coast to Pompei and Herculaneum, all very accesible.

FANTASTIC, where do I start? At the risk of not sounding very original, this hotel is just superb, from the location, to the staff, from the decor to the food. Hard to fault the Grand Hotel Ambasciatori. We chose this hotel for our wedding HQ and wedding lunch venue based on the revues found here and we haven't been disappointed.

We arrived at the hotel on Friday the 15th of October and the Reservation Manager Massimo Esposito had kindly upgraded us after we had specified that we were coming to Sorrento to get married and for our honeymoon. We were given a room on the 3rd floor with a terrace overlooking the beautiful gardens of the hotel as well as the Sorrento port and part of the bay, BEAUTIFUL. The room is decorated with taste, the bed is big and comfy, and you have ample storage and furniture. The bathroom is clean and bright. Our maid did a great job of not being noticed but the room was always cleaned and tidy whenever we came back.

The Restaurant, just like the rest of the hotel features beautiful chandeliers and antique furniture and has a striking panoramic view over the Napolitean bay with the Vesuvius and Capri in the background. the Restaurant staff, led by the ever helpful, polite and smiling Maitre D'hotel Giovanni Di Gregorio does a great job to serve as well as entertain the guests during breakfast and diner. They showcase nicely the food prepared by the chef (whose name I unfortunately don't have), food which never fails to trigger a little Italian party in your mouth. That is what happens on a daily basis. Seriously all of the food we were served at Le Muse restuarant was of a very high standard.

However, things get even better for such a special day as a wedding. All the hotel staff was waiting in the lobby with our friends and family to welcome us back from the Cloisters in music before taking us to one of their beautiful terrace where aperitifs and drinks were served. We were lucky to have the sun staying with us until then as the day had been forecast to be a rainy one. After that we moved to the restaurant which we had for ourselves and where 4 tables had been superbly decorated for us and our guests. The Maitre D'Hotel Giovanni and his trusty assistant Valentino were there to wait on us hand and foot, for us and our guests; beautiful plates of food were making their way out of the kitchen to our tables, the glasses of water and wine were being topped up without anyone noticing. Even the fussy eaters in our party had their requests accommodated and the only word our guests had about the food was FABULOUS (The Italians can make the French and English agree on something lol).
The cake was beautiful and the whole staff was very proud to present it to us after the speeches which made it even more dramatic with the view in the background.
That was all at the Ambasciatori for this day for our guests and they all thoroughly enjoyed it.

After having said goodbye to all our guests a few days later, we finally had the Ambaciatori, Sorrento and the Amalfi coast to ourselves. The staff kept on making our stay special with their warm and sincere attentions.
Despite having travelled, slept and dined in New York, Jamaica, Paris, Mexico, Egypt, Marrakech, London, Barcelona, LA, to name but a few... we have never encountered such service, such a venue and even such food (We've been to Claridge's in London and River Cafe in New York). Everything was just outstanding.
As for Sorrento itself, you just need to get out there to try the local specialties, travel along the coast, take cooking classes, learn about the history, do some shopping or sit by piazza Tasso to watch the world go by.

We can't finish this review without thanking again the Manager Mr Savarese and Mr Massimo Esposito for being so welcoming, the Maitre D'Hotel Giovanni Di Gregorio and Valentino for being so passionate about their restaurant and looking after their guests so well, Toni and Tommasso at the bar with their delicious wines and cocktails, Carla and the rest of the reception staff whose names I unfortunately can't rememeber as well as the people we haven't met but who make the whole experience so good in the kitchens and the rest of the hotel.
You seriously cannot go wrong with the Grand Hotel Ambasciatori, and GRAND being the operative word here!
This hotel has it right because they do work so tightly as a team, and everybody is on top of their game, which ultimately leads to perfect service all round.

Thank you so much to everybody at the Ambasciatori we cannot wait to return for our anniversary in 2011......
I just cannot praise this hotel and all its staff enough, they are truly wonderful and beautiful Sorrento will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Ps) Marisa our Thomsons wedding planner YOU WERE FANTASTIC

Chose this Hotel after scouring the internet, and was very pleased with our find ! Weren't sure if we wanted to go south or north Italy, but since we went in Oct, we thought south would be warmer ! How right we were. Sorrento is lovely at this tme of year. Still warm (mid 20's) and mildy busy (easy to get into restaurants and travel on buses - must be very busy (and hot) in summer !). The hotel is a level 10min walk from the Piazza Tasso (centre square in Sorrento). You pass a great view over the Bay of Naples on the way too ! The Hotel is rated (Thomson) 5*, but I'd say more 4*. In fact it says 4* on the hotel door. It has a grand reception where the staff are extremely helpful and very good at english ! (something that was lacking in some other lower rated hotels, from people we met during our stay). Our room was very spacious with a small balcony overlooking (a neighbouring hotels) pool. Still a lovely view ! Lots of space for clothes and clobber. Although the room was lovely, it was next to the elevator that serviced the pontoon/spiaggia. I must admit though, but day 2 (of 11) it didn't bother us at all... and proved very handy for the restaurant and pontoon ! We only ate breakfast in the hotel (ate out in the evening), but the food and service was very good indeed. You can sit inside or outside, and the views across the Bay of Naples is exceptional ! You can see coastline, Vesuvius, and plush cruise ships that moor in the bay. It made breakfast time a treat. We can't comment on the evening meals, as we were only B&B, but can say that the food in Sorrento itself was exceptional (albeit a bit pricey.. although I believe this to be true across Italy, and especially the Almalfi Coast !). We ate in 10 different restaurants (twice in the same one), and could not fault any of them. The 20 min walk to the Marina Grande at the end of Sorrento is worth the effort too. Some lovely restaurants and a small beach as well. A trip to Positano on the local bus is an experience but, again worth the trip. A beautiful place. In contrast, we thought the town of Almalfi itself was very overrated. Positano better ! Boat trips to Capri and Ischia are lovely, and easy from Sorrento's Quay. Train trips to Pompeii, Naples and Rome are very easy from Sorrento's main station too. Shopping is lovely, with narrow streets, and beautifully lit at night ! Open til 10pm ! All in all, a great trip and lovely hotel. Would definitely recommend the Ambasciatori and would stay again. In our opinion (from walking about), we would also recommend (for location in Sorrento and lovely looking-ness !) the Bellevue Syrene, La Favorita, Tramontano, Excelsior Vittoria and I'm sure a few more. Watch out that Sorrento closes down from mid/end Oct though !
