I stayed at this hotel as part of a wedding group of 15. The views from the hotel were fantastic. The staff were excellent and work very hard but they always willing to help. The shuttle bus was great back and for th the town. The food was fantastic and I would recommend this hotel. I will be returning.

This hotel is wonderful and we have visited it five times before finally moving to Italy to live. The service is second to none, the views from the hotel over the Bay of Naples are to die for and the food fantastic. The rooms are beautiful and very clean, although you need to ensure you choose a room with a sea view otherwise you could find yourselves looking at a wall. I am a non meat eater and this was never a problem because if all else failed the chef made me the best omelette I haveever had. Bar staff great and willing to make beautiful non alcoholic cocktails. A lovely place to stay

Room Tip: Make sure you choose a room with a sea view.

We asked our tour company for 5* hotel. President is at best 4*. Views are excellent. We had paid extra for executive room having read some reviews - it was worth it as one honeymoon couple who had the worst room in the hotel (bottom corner facing a wall below the car park) were unable to move as the hotel was apparently full and the dark damp room blighted their stay.

Our room was nice but not 'executive'. one lamp shade was damaged and held together with tape. The walls are paper thin and we were party to other guests' conversations and arguments (so keep your voice down)! We were also right below the restaurant and were woken every morning from 6am by staff moving around and much scraping of chairs.

The rooms are furnished impractically. There was a writing desk but no dressing table with mirror. There was a tiny mirror fixed to a chest of drawers at about chest height so not much fun putting make-up on (the extractor fan didnt work in the bathroom so that wasnt an option either). There was also a full length mirror but this was behind the case stand so not useful.

You will be charged if you use the minibar to keep your own water or other drinks cool. Take your own toiletries - the hotel does provide them but they are not full, not always replenished and almost impossible to get out of the hard bottles.

Although the bed was made up every day, the bathroom had not always been cleaned (this was usually the case when the male cleaning staff were on duty.

The food was repetitive and quality was mixed. We had paid for half-board but ate out several nights (though, as one other reviewer has noted, the food generally in Sorrento is not great so even eating out was not the experience we hoped for).

The roof terrace was very good but the seat cushions were grubby (as were the ones by the pool). We didnt use the pool as it was freezing and was in full shade by 1pm. A HEATED POOL WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT.

The staff were polite but not always friendly or approachable. Beware the hard-sell Thomson tours. We paid a lot of money for a visit to Pompeii which took an age on the bus due to heavy traffic and then were rushed round the site missing much of the excavations. THIS TRIP IS WORTH DOING YOURSELF - the train station is easily accessible and much quicker than the bus! It costs only 6euro and the train stops right outside the site.

I would definitely return to Sorrento but not the President

Room Tip: Go for a sea view or not at all - some of the 'garden views' have tiny outside spaces facing...

I was slightly nervous when I chose this hotel over one closer to the main city (The Bristol) as it did seem a long way from anything - I definitely made the right decision, the best views of the Bay of Naples, Vesuvius and the surrounding area.
All staff were so helpful and friendly - reception were happy to print and fax some documents back to the UK, the cocktail waiters were receptive to expanding their menu with our favourites cocktails which weren't on their menu, service on the roof terrace was excellent and all the waiting staff in the restaurant were fantastic.
Food gorgeous with a large range of local speciality dishes, fish and meat dishes, the portion sizes were large to the point where we couldn't manage dessert some nights.
The location was perfect, we passed The Bristol a few times and always commented on how glad we chose The President. Can't praise this hotel and all its staff enough. Wonderful relaxing honeymoon.

This hotel was selected by our tour company. We were allocated an unrenovated room at the back of the hotel with no view. As it turns out, all the other on our small tour were allocated renovated rooms with a view. Our attempts to discuss this with the desk staff were unsatisfactory. We were told that everybody can't have a good room and it wasn't their fault. This is not one hotel but two hotels - a four star hotel and a two star hotel. Make sure you know which hotel you have booked into. As for the dining room, the staff are trained, but the seem to have embraced the arrogance in advance of the performance. We ordered a wine with dinner - it sat at the waiters station while we ate dinner and then they were surprise when we didn't want it served after we had finished eating. The view from the hotel is great, but the price of not being able to walk to Sorrento is high. The food was good - genuine 4 star but both the uneven rooms and staff resulted in my poor rating.

We've just returned from our second visit to The President.
Must have been lucky both times (which is unusual for me) as we had delightful rooms both times.
I've travelled all over Italy, I love it, but I'm never very impressed with food quality or customer service anywhere in Italy. It's a pity but it's true and the President is no exception, although I do find the staff here to be considerably better and sweeter than average.
The pool is lovely (water freezing though) and the roof terrace is stunning - which is really the best feature of this hotel - THE VIEWS! Yes it's a slight pain being outside Sorrento and having to rely on the shuttle bus or taxis, but worth it for a view that you'd never tire of even if you saw it every day for the rest of your life.

We booked this hotel through Sovereign Holidays at short notice having looked at some reviews on TA. Almost all the previous reviews were accurate, which led to us not being disappointed with our choice of hotel.

The room we'd originally booked was a twin with sea view, but as it was our honeymoon I contacted the hotel directly and requested that our room to have a good as view as possible. This was because I'd read some negative reviews from souls who'd not been impressed with their room. The hotel responded immediately and assured me they'd do all they could to make our stay memorable. They did not disappoint! We were given a Junior Suite on the 3rd floor which provided a wonderful view from our balcony. It had adequate storage, safe, hair dyer, kettle, mini bar, TV etc. The bathroom was large with jet bath, separate shower, toilet & bidet. There was a small balcony but plenty big enough to sit comfortably and take in the marvellous view. So my advice is to spend a bit extra to have a room with a view and also approach the hotel if in doubt about what you're likely to get.

The staff were faultless. Ever keen to help in any way and always so courteous. This was especially true of the restaurant personnel, who together made a great team and were all very pleasant and helpful.

Our holiday was half board and the food was very good. Breakfast had cereals, continental & cooked styles, fruits, omelettes made to order, eggs to order, breads, juices, tea & coffee. The evening menus were displayed early each day and there was always a choice of 4-5 starters & mains, with a large selection of desserts to choose from. The choices were consistently good and we never had a bad experience. In fact the fish dishes very good indeed. But there was always a choice of pasta, fish, beef, chicken, vegetarian etc and all were as good as each other.

Facilities in the hotel were very good too. Plenty of space in the bar area with good views and the roof top Solarium was wonderful. With stunning views, plentiful seating of good quality and variety it was lovely place to relax.

Unfortunately the only down side to having a view is being high above the town. This meant either relying on the courtesy bus or walking to and from Sorrento. For us we felt the bus, though free, did not run at very convenient times. For example a day trip out could end up with you being in Sorrento at 5pm and there not being a bus till 7.30pm. Plus it is not the largest of buses so if you were not in the first 20 to embark, you were reliant on the driver coming back for you. As for the walk to and from town, this is not to be undertaken lightly. Going down may not present an issue but the steady climb up would challenge anyone not used to walking a fairly steep gradient for 20-30 minutes. It is a good road that winds it's way down the hillside and the steps take out the hairpins saving time, but it is totally unlit once you leave the street so not advisable in the dark.

It is only for this reason that we gave it 4 out of 5 as a rating. Although you may not want to leave the hotel at night to visit Sorrento, we thought this was an option not readily available given the hotels location. But for those who wish to eat their evening meal, take a drink in the bar or sit and look out over a memorable view.......that would not be problem.

Despite this, we both thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would recommend it to those who prefer to be out of the way, in a quiet, relaxing and well run hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms looking to rear of hotel ie at a wall or car park. Go for a room on the highest floor p...
