Hotel Central
Ranked #54 of 100 Hotels in Sorrento

Friendly, helpful & obliging staff, evening dinner in restaurant good, air conditioning in bedrooms efficient, pleasant roof terrace but does this hotel match up to its` 4 star rating?.......compared to other 4 star hotels in the area probably not. No toilet seats in Ladies toilet in reception ( there was in the Gents ), barking, growling dogs behind fence on the trek to the swimming pool, rowdy non hotel residents using the pool ( probably from the on site gym/fitness centre ), rubbish strewn sunbathing deck at pool, small bedroom with one small wardrobe ( no shelf ) and 3 small drawers - no other storage, TV on bracket at ceiling height & bathrooms small - half size basin without a shelf above, disposable cups for tooth mugs and again very little storage. 30 minutes free Wi-Fi included per room ( per stay not per night ! )

This is a tricky review to write, because--although we enjoyed our stay--there were some drawbacks. We chose this hotel for two reasons: 1) rest and relaxation and 2) access to Napoli, Herculaneum, Pompeii, etc. via the Circumvesuviana railway.

As for the first point, please be aware that this hotel serves coach tours. In itself, this isn't an issue--except at mealtimes. If you happen to need your meal in a timely fashion, then finding yourself in the midst of 50 people who are piling in at one time, so that they can catch their morning/evening tour, can be a hassle, because the serving area is not that large. With regard to sleeping, please see my tip for choosing a room. On the plus side: the hotel has a fantastic pool and surrounds, equipped with sun beds, umbrellas, etc. There is also a poolside bar which provides an assortment of refreshments. This was very handy.

As to our second reason for choosing the Central (access to archaeological sites)--it did serve us well. However, I was left wondering what the name 'Central' referred to. It is not central in Sorrento--10 to 15 minute walk to the actual centre (along the busy/noisy Corso Italia) and an 8 to 10 minute walk to the train station.

One negative feature of the hotel (and the main reason behind 4 starts) is that they charge 10 Euros per day for Wifi. Considering Wifi is free all over Pompei, we found this extortionate. They ought to reconsider this policy. To end on a positive note, the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper or don't appreciate the finer aspects of breathing the fumes of 2-str...

After touring southern Italy and Sicily my wife and I decided to go back to Sorrento to take a tour of Capri and spend a couple of days in Sorrento. We stayed at the Hotel Central and found the hotel to be very accommodating, from the room, to the staff and the meals served. The receptionist, Elizabetta and Fernando the maitre d' were both so friendly, helpful and kind, they made our stay rewarding. The hotel is a short walk to center Sorrento and also has underground parking which is a plus if you are driving.

Room Tip: We stay on the street side which if you left the balcony doors open was a little noisy, but doors cl...

the hotel is beautiful but the service is not up to par. My first night there my bathroom flooded and they blamed in on me. i slid across marble floor and sprained my ankle, I lost my passport which come to find out i dropped at front desk, I asked them three times if they had it and they said no with out even checking, I wo\as to stay in italy not so bad but i did not have the money. as it turned out a waiter found it and gave to the reception and was put in safe, N0 one even looked I wont go back there. passport was my error but no one even bothered to see if i was a guest there

This is a very nice hotel at a bargain price. All superior rooms (like ours) are larger and have a balcony overlooking the busy Corso d'Italia. Quite noisy, but the balcony door is well soundproofed. The restaurant feels like group travel – with a fixed-price evening menu at a fixed time. Disregard and go downtown instead.
Despite its name, Hotel Central is unexpectedly off-center. The walk to Piazza Tasso is at least 10 minutes.
When you're tired of downtown Sorrento, the outdoor pool is large and inviting.

Room Tip: A superior room is larger, has a balcony and is probably worth the extra few euros.

We stayed here with a tour group and found most aspects of the hotel more than adequate. Despite the fact there were two groups staying here, the hotel didn't feel crowded. The room was nice--clean, well-appointed. The bathroom was not large, but a decent size. The breakfasts had many typically European choices and were quite tasty. The location is good, a 15 minute walk to the city center, if you are exploring the area. But if you are flying in and out, note that the airport is in Naples, an hour away with very light traffic. Don't miss seeing the Valley of the Mills, an almost surreal site in the center of town. Photos in the morning or late afternoon can take advantage of the unique light filtering in. The hotel in on the main street, and there is a lot of traffic. We were on the third floor, street side, and didn't find it to be much of a problem, noise-wise, at night. My only complaint about the hotel is the WiFi. You only get 30 minutes free for your entire stay, and have to pay for anything more. Every other hotel we stayed in on this two week trip had unlimited free WiFi, though you sometimes had to use it in the lobby.

Room Tip: Those especially sensitive to noise might want to get a room away from the street.

Best service out of all the hotels we stayed at in Rome. Location is good, short walk to the piazza but is located on the very busy main street. Rooms have balconies, but it's too noisy to enjoy them.. make sure you ask for a room on the back side, still no view but at least it's quiet.

Room Tip: make sure you ask for a room on the back side ...rooms facing the street are VERY NOISEY!
