I think i was there around the same time Dave from Atlanta was there. Hi, Dave. It's Kevin from Atlanta. My mom and i had booked this hotel based on tripadvisor hotel reviews. We wanted something inexpensive, as the rest of our european hotels were paid for by my Hilton and Marriott points. This was in that price range and looked simple and fun. Well, the hotel was much nicer than i had imagined. Like Dave, i was worried about the distance from the city. And like Dave, i was VERY happy that i stayed above the city, given the vast noise of scooters in the heart of the city. The view was the best in Italy and the rooms were designed so that all of them had a fairly large deck to sip wine and limoncello from and enjoy Vesuvius from a distance or view the lemon groves and olive trees directly below. We also found the food to be some of the best we ate during our trip to Europe. Not fancy, but classic, well made trattoria food. It was also some of the most affordable food we had in Italy. Like Dave, we would race back from the city before dusk to eat at the Il Nido Ristorante (dinner served only til like 8:30). The lemon-hued tablecloths and curtains, along with the tasteful granite floors and Dean Martin music, seemed like a scene from one of those...I think i was there around the same time Dave from Atlanta was there. Would come to Sorrento again for no other reason than to stay at Il Nido and enjoy the view and scenery.
Only thing which might prove difficult are the showers in the room. In a normal room, anyone more than 200 lbs. will have a difficult time fitting in the incredibly tiny showers. Also, Americans will probably not like the traditional italian towels which are more like linen tablecloths.
