Wow, did we get lucky! What a great place to stay! Great location, Free Parking,Free wi-fi,Free shuttle bus into town, wonderful food UNBELIVABLE VALUE...we were traveling by car from Rome along the coast and stumbled across this little gem...we stayed here 3 nights ,the first half of our trip, and then decided to return and spend 2 more nights before heading back to Rome to fly home.I cannot not say enough nice things about Il Nido and it's staff...Gorgeous views from the terrace...a perfect Italian experience....

Room Tip: one with a terrace is nice But hotel is great even if the room has no view

Il Nido is the perfect place to stay when visiting Sorrento. We chose to stay outside of Sorrento as we planned to rent a car on our third day (in order to drive further afield) and Il Nido had easy parking. The bonus was the staff and the terrific views of Naples Bay from the terrace where you can have drinks, breakfast or a delicious meal from the restaurant menu. We had a wonderful evening sitting on the terrace, watching the lights along the coast come on and twinkle as we ate our dinner. The free shuttle service to and from Sorrento is friendly and reliable with a mini-commentary on the view as you drive up towards the hotel. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The public bus system, which you can use to access towns along the Amalfi Coast, leaves from just across the road from the hotel. As Il Nido was full, we ended up booking our third night as a nearby hotel. While still good, we would return to Il Nido and hope to do so sometime. Our only suggestion would be to make sure that you google the spot to pick up the shuttle should you arrive in Sorrento on foot at the start of your stay, as it took us a while to find it as it wasn't marked on the map we had taken with us.

Room Tip: Request a sea-view.

I stayed 4 nights. I knew to ask for a Bayview (from reading reviews on here) and glad I did - its spectacular. Note that the lower number levels have the better views (level 0 is reception and restaurant with the best view. Level 1 next best, level 2 the lowest level as level 3 is the laundry). I was on level 2 but it was good.

I used the laundry (how nice to wear some clean clothes!). 5 euros a wash and 3 euros for the dryer which I needed to use twice to properly dry the clothes. They supply the wash powder!
On checkin they give you this 1 page (double sided) information sheet that is your life line to transport and tours during your stay. Everything from train, bus, boat, shuttle bus times to what tours are on what days is included. Saved me having to ask heaps of questions as it was all there.

The free shuttle bus is priceless to connect you to town as the hotel in on the hill and impossible to get to without transport. It was always reliable.

Italian music played during breakfast was a very nice touch. I didn't eat at the restaurant for dinner so I'm not sure if they play it then too. Other guests said they enjoyed the meal in the restaurant. I just wanted to make the most of being in Sorrento so I took the shuttle to town each night.

There's no in-room tea & coffee making facilities but the staff will make you a cup for a very small fee whenever you like.

You can hear others next door (& obviously on the balcony) but it wasn't an issue for me at all. The shower is small but adequate. Room size good. Basic decor but you don't need anything more when you're travelling the amalfi coast during the day.

Free wifi is great.

Room Tip: Level 0 (if there are rooms on that level) or level 1. Ask for the Bay view.

Il Nido is such a comfortable spot that we hurried back from downtown just to relax and enjoy the view from the terrace. Food was superb, room was so comfortable. Staff was very friendly. Our second time there and we'll not stay anywhere else in Sorrento. Price was amazing. We didn't use the laundry but there was one available for guests. Nice touch.

This smallish (40 room), family-owned/operated hotel should be visited by anyone considering a similar business as it is an outstanding example of its kind. For travelers it is the sort of place that will almost certainly impress you.

Upon booking, I was impressed by the highly useful email sent by the hotel. Not only did it detail how to get to the hotel from Sorrento city center, but it provided great information of what to do before the 3:00 p.m. check-in time.

The one and only drawback that some may find is the location. It is a few kilometers outside and above the town of Sorrento. The location does however offer a stunning view across the Bay of Naples of Mt. Vesuvius and the city of Naples. Most of the rooms appear to have a sea view, but even those with a garden view will have benefit of the view when dining at the hotel. Free, hourly shuttle service is provided to and from a convenient meeting point in Sorrento and also to the train/bus station if needed. The taxi we took from the train station to the hotel upon arrival (we had quite a bit of baggage) cost right at 40 Euros--quite excessive by my standards.

Our room was very large by European standards with a great abundance of storage space. The mattresses and bed linens are comfortable. Our bath was large with a generously sized shower and immediate hot water.

The buffet breakfast is excellent with a large selection of items to suit nearly any taste.

We chose the half-board (breakfast and dinner) option and were very pleased. While the "pension" menu is a bit abbreviated compared to the standard menu, there is a large selection. You are allowed a starter course, a main course, a side dish and dessert. The portion sizes are just right. A small glass of sparkling wine and excellent bruschetta are provided to all dinner guests. Wine, beer and spirits are very reasonably priced as is the standard dinner menu.

Decoration and furnishings are tasteful and attractive. Everything is in a good state of repair and kept nicely clean. There is no room service, nor do I believe that lunch is served.

The small staff is ever busy yet highly attentive, courteous and helpful. Most speak good English. The wonderfully useful phamplet provided upon check-in details train, bus and ferry shedules/prices, the hotel shuttle schedule, internet log in information and available group/private tours and excursions. For those wanting to take the public bus along the Amalfi coast, you can buy your bus pass in the hotel and a bus stop is less is perhaps 25 meters from the hotel.

If you are looking for a hotel with exceptional value very near Sorrento, you have found it! As even our late season (mid-October) visit found the hotel filled some days, I suggest that you reserve well in advance!

Room Tip: If available, the small additional cost of a sea-view room is worthwhile.
