Il Nido is such a comfortable spot that we hurried back from downtown just to relax and enjoy the view from the terrace. Food was superb, room was so comfortable. Staff was very friendly. Our second time there and we'll not stay anywhere else in Sorrento. Price was amazing. We didn't use the laundry but there was one available for guests. Nice touch.

This smallish (40 room), family-owned/operated hotel should be visited by anyone considering a similar business as it is an outstanding example of its kind. For travelers it is the sort of place that will almost certainly impress you.

Upon booking, I was impressed by the highly useful email sent by the hotel. Not only did it detail how to get to the hotel from Sorrento city center, but it provided great information of what to do before the 3:00 p.m. check-in time.

The one and only drawback that some may find is the location. It is a few kilometers outside and above the town of Sorrento. The location does however offer a stunning view across the Bay of Naples of Mt. Vesuvius and the city of Naples. Most of the rooms appear to have a sea view, but even those with a garden view will have benefit of the view when dining at the hotel. Free, hourly shuttle service is provided to and from a convenient meeting point in Sorrento and also to the train/bus station if needed. The taxi we took from the train station to the hotel upon arrival (we had quite a bit of baggage) cost right at 40 Euros--quite excessive by my standards.

Our room was very large by European standards with a great abundance of storage space. The mattresses and bed linens are comfortable. Our bath was large with a generously sized shower and immediate hot water.

The buffet breakfast is excellent with a large selection of items to suit nearly any taste.

We chose the half-board (breakfast and dinner) option and were very pleased. While the "pension" menu is a bit abbreviated compared to the standard menu, there is a large selection. You are allowed a starter course, a main course, a side dish and dessert. The portion sizes are just right. A small glass of sparkling wine and excellent bruschetta are provided to all dinner guests. Wine, beer and spirits are very reasonably priced as is the standard dinner menu.

Decoration and furnishings are tasteful and attractive. Everything is in a good state of repair and kept nicely clean. There is no room service, nor do I believe that lunch is served.

The small staff is ever busy yet highly attentive, courteous and helpful. Most speak good English. The wonderfully useful phamplet provided upon check-in details train, bus and ferry shedules/prices, the hotel shuttle schedule, internet log in information and available group/private tours and excursions. For those wanting to take the public bus along the Amalfi coast, you can buy your bus pass in the hotel and a bus stop is less is perhaps 25 meters from the hotel.

If you are looking for a hotel with exceptional value very near Sorrento, you have found it! As even our late season (mid-October) visit found the hotel filled some days, I suggest that you reserve well in advance!

Room Tip: If available, the small additional cost of a sea-view room is worthwhile.

Il Nido is a very comfortable hotel with an amazing breakfast that you can eat on the balcony overlooking the sea. The hotel is a shuttle ride away from downtown Sorrento, but since our days were packed, we didn't find this inconvenient. The staff were very helpful with bus and train schedules and we were able to take trips to Pompeii, the Isle of Capri, and catch the bus to Amalfi without any trouble. Our room was comfortable and the food was great.

My husband and I are just wrapping up a month's stay in Italy. This was our first time in the Sorrento area and I chose Il Nido to stay for a week Sept. 21 - 28. I cannot say enough good things about this hidden gem of a hotel in the hills above Sorrento...in all our travels, we can't remember finding such a treasure. The hospitality is second to none...this lovely classy Italian family makes you feel right a home but never intrudes...the food in the dining room is superb...we ate one night in Sorrento at a nice place but then ate the remaining evenings at the dining room in the hotel 'cuz we couldn't think of a reason not to...the food was superb and I'm sure we tried most everything on the menu...the last night we had the fish cooked in salt and it was prepared exactly the way we had hoped for and prepared table side by the lovely maître-de. The shuttle bus was so appreciated...how lovely to be able to go to Sorrento at most any given time of day and be picked up afterward...a real plus for us. As others have said the view from the dining room is second to none...one can have dinner or breakfast outside on the balcony or inside the dining room and still have what must be the world's most amazing view. Il Nido was so exceptional in every way that we wouldn't think of choosing any other place when we next visit the Sorrento area! Thank you so very much Il Nido for the best vacation week of our lives! :o)

This may be a 3-star hotel, but the setting and hospitality is 5-star all the way! It is a family-owned property--Dino who pretty much runs everything, his brother who drives the shuttle bus in the mornings, and his mother who is supervising the kitchen. The breakfast was by far the best breakfast we experienced in all of Italy--eggs. bacon, fresh-squeezed orange juice, pastries, breads, coffees, fruits....too much to even name it all served in the lovely dining room. Our view of the Bay of Naples was STUNNING! The room was large but simple and very clean. We had dinner at the hotel one evening and it was delicious! The prices were so reasonable for everything--much more so than what you would pay in a restaurant in Sorrento. At first, we were skeptical about staying up the mountain away from the city center, but the hotel shuttle bus conveniently runs and picks up every hour from the "meeting place". I cannot say enough good things about this hotel and the owner. Dino helped us plan out our trip from Sorrento to Positano, Amalfi, then Ravello. His advice was "spot-on" --- it is complicated to get to Ravello from Sorrento in one day and back...without his help and advice, we would not have figured it out (things are not always logical in Italy :) Another person we met on the ferry back from Amalfi told us that their 4-star hotel had offered no help to them and they did not make it to Ravello that day. That's when I knew we had found a gem with Dino at Il Nido. We will definitely stay at this hotel when we return to the Amalfi coast!

Warm, friendly, comfortable, excellent views, amazing food (try the risotto with pears and Gorgonzola cheese!!!!), convenient, and not fussy. What more could you want? After maybe 5 or 6 visits, I can't imagine staying any place else. My personal goal is to get them an 'excellent' rating from trip advisor. They deserve it!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for what you want - garden, balcony, bay view. It doesn't matter to me since the balcony wh...

In September 2013 we had the pleasure of staying at Il Nido in Sorrento but on the way there my husband broke his glasses and when we told them of our plight they called an optomitrist and then Candida the manager actually drove us to the next town to the Dr. and then the Dr. took us right away and within 2 hours we had new glasses and then their friend drove us back to the hotel. The other manager Dino Perscico the brother of Dino could not have been nicer to us. Our room had a spectacular view of Sorrento and dinner in the restaurant was wonderful along with the service and the next morning breakfast was equally as good. We can't say enough about this hotel. They also have a shuttle to and from town which is wonderful as well.

Room Tip: Try to get a view of the bay of Naples.
