Sorrento is a charming town with lots of great restaurants. The only disappointment we had was that almost without exception, every menu was identical. Of course, you come to Italy to enjoy Italian food, but the preponderance of pasta and pizza gets a bit one note after awhile. Enter Meating. We did not have reservations and, unfortunately, almost no facility with the language. This was, understandably, off-putting to the host, and we were seated at the worst table near the front of the restaurant. As it turns out, it wasn't really a 'bad' table, and we were not annoyed by the back and forth. Within 40 minutes of our arrival, the place was full. Everything was served a la carte. We shared Chateaubriand and grilled vegetables. The steak was a bit rare for my husband's taste, so they rolled over a scorching hot stone on a wooden cart and seared his portion to his taste at the table. I've never seen that before, and it was honestly, very cool. Service was good, not great (just a bit inattentive), but not so much as to bother us. All in all, delicious meal and a welcome break from the Italian standards.
