“When you can't look at another pizza or plate of pasta ...”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

Sorrento is a charming town with lots of great restaurants. The only disappointment we had was that almost without exception, every menu was identical. Of course, you come to Italy to enjoy Italian food, but the preponderance of pasta and pizza gets a bit one note after awhile. Enter Meating. We did not have reservations and, unfortunately, almost no facility with the language. This was, understandably, off-putting to the host, and we were seated at the worst table near the front of the restaurant. As it turns out, it wasn't really a 'bad' table, and we were not annoyed by the back and forth. Within 40 minutes of our arrival, the place was full. Everything was served a la carte. We shared Chateaubriand and grilled vegetables. The steak was a bit rare for my husband's taste, so they rolled over a scorching hot stone on a wooden cart and seared his portion to his taste at the table. I've never seen that before, and it was honestly, very cool. Service was good, not great (just a bit inattentive), but not so much as to bother us. All in all, delicious meal and a welcome break from the Italian standards.

“What a find!”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

Came across an advert for "Meating" in a leaflet and thought we would try it out. After all the lovely pasta in the area, we just fancied a steak! When we turned up the place wasn't open, but the Chef Roberto had just arrived to prepare for evening service. He couldn't speak much English and we don't speak Italian, but we managed to make a booking for the following evening and he even showed us the cut of meat that we were interested in. We turned up the following evening and were created like old friends. Roberto came out of the kitchen to shake us by the hand. The restaurant is tucked away from the main street and is spotless and well presented. We could sit wherever we wanted and we had the Chateaubriand, which was divine. (Cost 40 euros) We were told that it comes "rare" but we were offered for it either to go back on the grill or to have a hot stone at the table so we could cook it to out liking. It was fine for me but my husband chose to have the hot stone and cooked it a little more to his taste. It was fabulous and we asked about wine to compliment the steak and were recommended various bottles at the lower end of the price list, which was refreshing. We loved this restaurant so much we went back on our last night with an Australian couple we had made friends with. We all had a steak and again it was superb. Even though it was obvious we were tourists, we were treating like regular customers and can't praise the place enough. Thank you for making us so welcome.

“Great meat, great wine, great limoncello, great hangover!”
Reviewed October 20, 2012 via mobile

Read the reviews on here and decided it was a must visit restaurant. We were the first people in there but it soon filled up. I like my meat and was not disappointed, beautiful rare fillet steak with peppercorn sauce, my wife had the same with mushroom sauce, both perfect. Decor is beautiful, well cared for, the business is obviously run from the heart and not the wallet. Amazing wine list, equally amazing wine. Service was faultless. Gallons of free limoncello slid down a treat. Would absolutely recommend to anybody and we will be going back before we leave.

“Not for vegetarians”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

As the name suggests this restaurant is about eating Meat and very well they do it.
If you are in Sorrento for a week and dining out each evening then this is one of the restaurants that you should visit provided you enjoy eating meat. The room at the back is definitely the nicest part of the restaurant to eat in, but beware they have a large TV on the wall though the sound is turned down. Not sure if it would be like that when an Italian football match is being screened.
We went twice while in Sorrento. The first time being better than the second. First time I was treated to a wonderfully succulent medium rare steak with pepper sauce which melted in the mouth, but the second I ordered a similar steak with mushrooms but the meat was so rare it could probably have walked off the plate unaided. When the dish was returned with the steak cooked as requested I was missing my vegetables and the steak turned out to be really chewy with a large chunk of gristle running through it. Don't be put off though as I think I was just unlucky with the quality of the meat in the second dish and I wasn't hungry enough to complain and get it replaced. Expect to spend 80 to 90 Euro for a meal for two with local wine
saucewalked in on a Saturday night at 8:30 and still got a table for two, but we might have been a little lucky so reservations are always worth considering. A mix of indoor and outdoor dining in a relaxed less formal atmosphere than some of the other restaurants we visited on this trip, but very much worth a visit. Expect to spend around 70 Euro for a meal for two with local wine.

“hidden away delight”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

we were in sorrento for 7 nights,we wandered the streets and back streets where we came across the Meating steakhouse,i had seen this restaurant mentioned on trip advisor previously.it was up an alley off the main street and in a small street behind, only due to an advertisement on the wall did we find the place,so glad we did the aroma of the cooking steaks was mouthwatering.we tried to book a table in the orange room which is upstairs to the back, only a small room but delightful it was full so we booked for the next night.when we arrived we were ina small queue whilst they sorted the tables,a member of staff apologised and offered us a large glass of white wine on the house.they gave us a bruchetta whilst we were waiting for our starters. The staff suggested a local white wine which was reasonably priced and delicious too.we ordered steaks and were not disappointed it melted in your mouth, the knife cut through the meat as if it was butter.one of the best steaks ive eaten and thats quite a few.its true what they say you get what you pay for.if you fancy a steak for a change you must visit this restaurant.we were not rushed at all and probably one of the last to leave.the staff were very friendly but not overbearing.had a fantastic night.there are other tables downstairs but they dont have the same atmosphere as the small ones upstairs,so amke sure you tell them where you want to be seated.
