All right, so I was personally blown away from Sorrento and the near Amalfi Coast - and Buonconvento just made it even more excellent and more perfect in the end of the day. We had dinner here, it is not situated on the main, busy streets of Sorrento. I always prefer the silent and hidden places.

We sat down and at once received some mini cocktail - absolutely complimentary. Ordered a cheese plate for appetizer, a bottle of their house wine; and for main course a grilled chicken dish, really well spiced and a spagetthi with ham and mushroom. Oh and for the appetizer we got complimentary bruschettas too.

The waiters were really polite, and we didn't have to chase them, they always asked if everything was good. They even helped us to create our own spagetthi - because they didn't have the one on the menu we wanted.

So if you are in Sorrento, it is really worth a shot. And it wasn't the most expensive adventure either ;)

This is a find indeed, the seafood pasta - beautiful , lovely restaurant with history. Came here several times during our visit .Superbly run by a tallish chap with glasses (sorry we didnt ask his name, very efficient) .. In fact on 1 occasion he wasn't there, we did feel the meal and service was not the usual standard! But certainly would return if we were in the area

We dined here two nights in a row because the first night was such a great experience. The second night was just as good. The food is of high quality and tasted great. The portions are generous so don't order too much or you might run out of room. The introductory free aperitif is a sign of what's to come: exceptionally attentive and friendly service. We kept noticing little ways in which the wait staff took care of us discretely and expertly. Hand wipes magically appeared after we had dipped bread in the leftover oil from our shared appetizer. Glasses or plates were taken away only when both of us had finished the drink or dish, to avoid guests feeling rushed.
The food was great - we especially liked the grilled vegetable appetizer with bruschetta. The pastas were great. Only the chicken was disappointing but few Italian restaurants seem to know how to cook great chicken.
The outdoor seating is on a very quiet street, and the indoor seating is below ground in what used to be a convent, with vaulted brick ceilings and a quirky pleasant decor.
The wine list is reasonably priced and varied.
We chatted with the waitresses and waiter and cook. All were friendly and helpful. In the shoulder season this place is quiet compared to the traps on the main pedestrian drags, but only because people don't know about it or stumble across it. It is on a side street off the main shopping street. 5 via Bernardina Donnorso (TripAdvisor shows the wrong spot on its map - use Google maps to find it).

This osteria is well worth a visit if you are visiting Sorrento. A little off the beaten track but do not let that deter you. The quality of food is excellent. We sampled fish, pizza and pasta during our numerous visits to the restaurant. If we return to Sorrento we will certainly be back to sample more dishes!

Spent a month in Italy and was weary from the mediocre food and unappreciative staff everywhere we went. We accidentally stumbled onto L' Osteria del Buonconvento and loved it. The food was awesome, servings more than ample, the setting delightful, everything was very clean and the staff friendly and highly appreciative of our stopping in. We enjoyed the restaurant so much we returned twice. There are lots of restaurants in Sorrento but overall this is as good as it gets ( and the prices are very reasonable). We highly recommend them.
