Enjoyed a great meal at Inn Bufalito. The waiter was friendly and knowledgable and the food was wonderful. Specialises in mozarella and the stuffed calamarie was pretty good too.

I just returned from Sorrento and this restaurant was our first meal in Sorrento. It was recommneded by Rick Steves as having good value. Supposedly the restaurant is about buffalo. Buffalo mozzerlla and buffalo steak. Of course the night we went they did not have Buffalo steak.. Just buffalo stew meat. Didn't really want to try that. My husband wanted lasagne but they were out of that as well.. It is out of the way of the Corso Italia which is nice since that street is noisy and congested. We ordered the caprese salad (buffalo mozzerlla) and their rosemary foccia. Which were both outstanding!! The mozzeralla seemed as though it was fresh as was the tomato and basil! The rosemary foccia was wonderful as well. My husband did get gnoochi and I got a special of spaghetti with shaved buffalo mozzeralla. All I can say was that it all tasted home made. Yes the restaurant is probably 99% tourists but hey that is what we are! I would highly recommned this place as it is a good value and not overpriced for what you get!

Pros: An excellent choice with immense "bang for the buck." Dishes are excellent, with large portion sizes; super-friendly wait staff. Very cute space, down a less-traveled alley near the center of town.

Cons: no sea views, a tad touristy; a bit self-conscious.

Recommended: cheese tasting platter, assorted buffalo meats, gnocchi.

We haphazardly found our way to In Bufalito on our final night in Sorrento, and were delighted by what we found in this restaurant, it was so delightful that we made it for lunch the next day before we caught our flight back to London.
Upon arrival, we were attended to staight away and politely gestured to the bar to wait for a table to become available (which took only 15 minutes), plenty of time to enjoy a refreshing drink.
Our waiter was knowledgable of the menu, and for the first time in Italy, when we asked for a wine recommendation, he was able to provide us with detailed description of each suitable wine that would complement our meal.
The menu was extensive; on our first visit, we had the Caprese Salad (the best buffalo mozzarella i've ever tasted, with lush tomatoes) and a focaccia with rosemary to start, my boyfriend was tempted and impressed with the T-bone steak (pictured), and i was equally impressed with the rustic and tasty home made ravioli. We complemented our meal with a red wine from the amalfi coast, i think is was "Cardamone", which was amazing!
We couldn't stop treating our taste buds, and were enticed by our waiter to partake in a little dessert, we shared the dark chocolate tart, which was decadent.
This was the first restaurant we had been to that didn't have a service/cover charge attached to the bill, which was great, we found it annoying that we would have to pay this charge elsewhere and receive average food, whereas at In Bufalito, we were amazed with the food and therefore happy to offer a tip to the restaurant for a wonderful meal.
We found the prices reasonable for the quality and quantity of food you receive, it would exceed our budget to visit everyday, but it was an exceptional place to dine for our last night in Sorrento and to lunch the dayafter.
Highly recommended, fabulous atmosphere, service and remarkable menu and wine selection!!

Walking down Vico I Fuoro from Piazza Tasso gives you a look at "everyday" Sorrento from a native's point of view; it's like seeing a show. The thread that connects many dishes is products made from Buffalo, like mozzarella.

We shared the antipasto sampler, which included a large ball of buffalo mozzarella, broccoli rabe, pumpkin, buffalo soprasatta, braciola, foccacia...followed by fussili with eggplant, tomato, mozzarella and sausage...steak with roasted potatoes...fried eggplant with tomato sauce. Don't remember the dessert or wine, other than they were wonderful.

BTW, all this cost just 73 Euros.

The place is rustic and charming; the waiters are very friendly and helpful. Don't be shy about coming back a second time: there aren't that many other fabulous restaurants in town.

One last thing, don't confuse this place with their retail store closer to town. Ask for Inn Bufalito RESTAURANT.
