My wife and I visited Sorrento in October 2012 and discovered this bar through various websites and previous favourable reviews.
We weren't disappointed.
The bar has a lovely "local" feel to it and the barman (Luigi) is very obliging in describing his wines and certainly knows his stuff without being overbearing. We had excellent and perfectly reasonably priced (4 - 5 euros per glass) whites and reds with both being served in the right glass and at the right temperatures. Every drink is served with tasty little appetisers too.
The atmosphere is relaxed and the whole bar is timber lined which creates a warm romantic setting.
We didn't eat but we saw local people eating and the food looked excellent. It turns out that the foods comes from the restaurant next door (il Giardiniello) which is owned and ran by Luigis mother - perfect! Incidentally we visited the restaurant another time and it too was superb.
Without question this place is worth a visit.

We ate alone in one room. Two other British tourists ate alone, with the barman, in the main bar next to us. Our pasta was more al dente than it should have been. (Was it cooked on the premises or did it come from the next door restaurant or something strange? This question is valid because we were given an incorrect, itemised, printed bill for a meal no one in La Viveria Bollicine was eating! The bar-tender had to go and get another one, which was still slightly wrong: admittedly in our favour, but we owned up and he let us off). Our wine (available only by the glass?) was good but should have been at the price. So there was a bit of a feeling that this was actually a bar acting as a front for a next door restaurant, even if it wasn't! That would have been fine if it had been jolly and busy. As it was, the loud, rather tired '50s and '60s classics on the sound system in our room were clashing with the loud TV showing football in the bar itself. Sorry for a downbeat review but this didn't work as a restaurant this night at least.

We went here during our recent trip to Sorrento largely as a result of the recommendations on Trip Advisor. However, we were sadly disappointed. Our starters were OK, but nothing to write home about, but unfortunately my main course was served, or rather put on the table, well before I had finished the starter. When I got to it, the fish was fine, well cooked and good flavour, but the accompanying vegetables were dull and lacklustre. My wife had a pizza, the base of which was burnt.

Judging from the other reviews, maybe the chef was off that night. On the positive side, the wines, both the range available and the quality, was excellent, and the decor was intimate and attractive.

I would go back there for a glass of wine, but to eat - I'm afraid not.

Thankyou both so much for making our engagement meal so special with a beautifully presented table specially laid with roses, petals and candles and lovely relaxing music! Also for advising and serving us delicious Italian food and wine to accompany it! It was the perfect place to celebrate with outstanding service and friendliness! We stumbled across this excellent bar/restaurant whilst looking for somewhere to eat on our first night in sorrento. Unlike other places we walked passed we were not harassed to go in and eat or look at the menu, the service was excellent and all the food appeared to be freshly cooked and made in house, we were also given a large amount of free bread and olives. The wine was also excellent and everything was very reasonably priced. The only downsides were the dodgy euro disco/house music and football on tv which didn't appeal to my girlfriend. Would definately reccomended this place
