“Basic accomodation in a great location”
Reviewed August 7, 2014

Just returned from a great 10 day family break in Sorrento, staying at the Hotel Eden. Our room (63) was basic but cleaned daily. It was 2 bedroomed which we were not expecting. Furniture was a bit outdated but functional. The rooms in the older part of the hotel did not have a balcony.
The breakfast was adequate with quite a bit of choice, including cereal, scrambled egg, croissants and bread with ham and cheese. One slight drawback was that you cannot sit at the tables outside as they are not owned by the restaurant (some did choose to ignore this).
I would recommend getting to breakfast early if you intend to stay around the pool and want a sunbed as they are soon taken, but there are some comfy chairs available if the sunbeds have gone. As other comments indicate you cannot take your own food or drink around the pool but there are a couple of staff regularly taking orders. Drinks are a bit on the expensive side (4 euros for a small beer and 3 euros for a diet coke) and a large pizza was 8 euros and is ideal as a snack at lunchtime. A few people did make the mistake of asking for a large beer that was promptly delivered in a glass boot containing about 3 pints - this was 18 Euros!
The restaurant next to the hotel is very good and reasonably priced. The hotel did give us a voucher to get 10% off our first meal at this restaurant.
We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful.
There is easy access to the train station but if you arrive by train or on the shuttle from the airport make sure you turn left when you get to the main street (at Hotel Nice) and there is an entrance to the hotel next to the Swatch Shop (easy to miss the sign as the door was usually closed so you might have to use the intercom). We went the wrong way and it ended up taking us an hour rather than 5 minutes!!
Overall I think the 3 star rating is fair and I would certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms 60 to 66 are more old fashioned and have no balcony.

The room we had was adaquate for a 3* hotel but the customer service was non existant. The elderly lady housekeeper who we think is part of the ownership actually called me a liar when I politely requested some toilet paper for the room, we just thouht it had been overlooed. She started shouting at me in the corridor that she had put toiet paper there herself and that I was lying!! The cleaning standard was very poor and we always try to keep our towels for as long as possible but even when we put them in the bath/shower for changing they were re-hung on our rails even when stained. The beds weren't changed all week until the very last night which was quite bizarre as we were leaving at 6 am the following morning!! We had paid for half board but were given a sheet of paper each night to pre-order our food for the next night (like you do in hospital) we then felt the chef prepared it early in the day because it was always overcooked and tasteless but they already had our money!! there was another restaurant attached to the hotel which served a better menu and we think the chef concentrated on this. The wi-fi is not really free. The air conditioning didn;t want to work properly. The hotel charges 5* prices for drinks, in fact they charge for every extra!! The ONLY upside is the central location is fabulous but an enormous amount of customer service improvement is needed and they should not be 3*

Room Tip: out of 3 rooms only 1 had a balcony and view

I have just spent a brilliant week in Sorrento with my daughter. The hotel is in a fantastic location - a short walk from the train station and also the main square. Perfect for getting around and about. Reception were helpful with local information and we were able to check in even though we arrived early. The bedroom was adequately furnished for a 3 star hotel and for the time we were there it was always cleaned as was the bathroom. Our room was on the third floor and looked over to the bay and Mount Vesuvius. The swimming pool area was always clean and the gardens were well maintained. You cannot take your own food and drink poolside but service was very efficient if you wanted anything. We stayed on a half board basis. There was amply to choose from for breakfast with scrambled eggs as well as all the usual fare you would expect. Evening meals - you were given the menu the evening before to choose from. Portions were big - we had to ask for smaller ones! On a down side the desserts weren't the best but to be honest with so many great places on the door for ice creams it wasn't an issue! The waiters were pleasant and friendly. On departure we had a short walk to the bus and staff offered to take our baggage for us. Good value for money hotel with friendly and helpful staff.

First of all: The location is location in the center of Sorrento. Everything else, is extra. The rooms and bathrooms weren't very clean. The free wifi is free for half an hour on a single device... Also, the pictures you see in the brochure and on the web are very deceitful: The swimming pool (with the hotel picture on the left) is in fact the neighboring swimming pool (the hotel's is much smaller) and there is no sea view at all.
At the hotel, the local version of Manuel helped us to our room, he took our luggage one floor up with the elevator, and then pointed us to our room and left us alone with our bags, which we had to carry up 4 flights of stairs and 2 corridors further. It was quite funny and a good exercise.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for 9 nights. The hotel is located a five minute walk from the main square. It is also located a 5 minute walk from the train station.
The room was small for a 9 night stay. Bathroom was modern with a big shower. The beds were made every day and the bin was emptied. The floor could have been swept/hoovered more frequently. We had a slight issue with our air conditioning, it was a bit temper-mental, sometimes we could control the temperature, sometimes we couldn't. Wifi is not free, and was very expensive. Plenty of restaurants and bars in the town have free wifi.
We only ate breakfast in the hotel a couple of times. There is plenty of bread, croissants, cheese, ham etc.
The hotel has a lovely garden and pool area. We always got a sun bed on days we went to the pool. You are not allowed bring your own food and drinks to the pool, not even a bottle of water. A member of staff comes around very frequently to ask if you want food/drinks, we felt a little pressured to buy something. We only bought drinks sometimes as we felt they were expensive (3 euro for a coke)
The location was our favourite part of the hotel. In that regard, it is a great place to explore Sorrento and the surrounding areas.

With it being our first time in Sorrento we decided to book a centrally located hotel and chose the Eden.

LOCATION
The location of this hotel is very good and very close to the main square in Sorrento.

RECEPTION
Check in was straight forward but you cannot check in before 2pm, the gentleman on reception was very pleasant and provided us with a varied amount of local information

ROOMS
Rooms are fairly basic but do provide a safe base in which to explore the local area.
After returning to our room on some afternoons we found on several occasions the rooms had not yet been cleaned or attended to and when we asked for clean towels the lady who was cleaning the rooms appeared to be very agitated and hostile.
The cleaning of the rooms was quite poor at the best of times, hairs left by the previous occupants were evident in the shower area and the dust layer under the bed remained there throughout our eight night stay.

BREAKFAST
The breakfast provided is not at all good and provides mainly bread, bread and more bread products and a very poor selection of hot and cold drinks.
The breakfast tables were rarely cleaned by the staff on duty and it was somewhat difficult to find a clean table, who wants to attempt to eat in a room with dirty cups, plates and leftover bread products scattered everywhere ?

CONCLUSION
A very well located hotel with the standards of a hostel, there are better hotels in the area without a doubt.
This hotel could be a lot better with a good team directed by a manager who has standards, the standards in this hotel fall far short of where they could be.

Room Tip: Best rooms are balcony rooms at the front of the hotel

This place was super average. Air conditioning that barely kept the room cool, hard bed, standoffish service and every little extra overpriced (a fiver for a diet Coke!). Also, we didn't look at the bill hard enough when we left and they actually charged us €30 more than what we had booked via Booking.com...not a big deal, but beware! We should have noticed, our mistake. They won't let you bring your own drinks to the pool, which is fair enough, but they'll even ask you to put water bottles away which in such heat is kind of a health and safety issue, no? Basically this place is your standard 3* hotel. However, the view from the room was nice and the location was quiet and about a 5-minute walk from the main square. Despite feeling very lukewarm about it, we'd probably stay again for the convenience.

Room Tip: Spring for a seaview room on the 5th floor!
