“One of the best pastas in Italy”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

My boyfriend and I were trying to find a reasonably priced place for dinner in sorrento. After walking around for half an hour we found il giardiniello. We looked and the menu and went up and choose a seat underneath the beautiful ivy and lemon trees. I ordered the fettuccine al pesto which was beautiful. One of the yummiest pastas in Italy so far. It was so good we went back the next night and I must say the gnocchi equally compared. The homemade pasta melted in my mouth. The owner who was there both night is such a nice man. And to make things even better it was the cheapest meal we have had! Thank you for the great food!!!!

“Best value meal in Italy”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

After spending 2 weeks in Italy, we had become adjusted to spending over €30 for one course for a meal so we were delighted when we found il giardiniello. Every table gets free olives and tomato bruschetta as well as a large basket of fresh bread (not actually free as cover charge is added to the bill but at only €1 per person, it was the cheapest cover charge we had found). The food is authentic and rustic and the staff are so friendly and eager to please - they made me a tiramisu by special request even though it was not on the menu, and gave us a free shot of limoncello after our coffees. This was our favourite restaurant in Sorrento - not fancy, but very friendly and great value.

“Great, home cooked food. Ideal on a budget.”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

For such a good, central location, this restaurant could easily become another tourist trap rip-off joint. But the family that run it have stuck to tradition.

The result is delicious home-cooked food, including traditional Italian dishes (in addition to the ubiquitous pizza and pasta), very friendly service and limoncello to finish. You're more likely to find locals here than tourists.

Sorrento can be a very expensive holiday, so the fantastic value for money at Il Giardiniello makes it a very welcome break, perfect for travellers on a budget.

Highly recommended!

“lovely food - poor service”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

Went to this restaurant for a light evening meal. Ideal prices and good central location. The food was excellent but unfortunately the service wasn't. We ordered extra wine which didn't arrive and the bruschetta which we ordered didn't arrive until after we had eaten our meal. Our waitress was very apologetic and we felt sorry that she had been let down by Franchesca who was I think very forgetful. Will try again to see if we have better luck as the food was so good.

“pleasant and affordable”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

Look this is a family run restaurant and probably needs a bit of a re-fresh. But if you have spent more than you planned and need a couple of resonable priced meals then come here. Its a pretty basic menu and would recommend the more traditional fare like pasta and pizza. The dough ball aubergine starter is superb and only €5 and enough for 2 to share. €8 gets you a litre of average drinkable white wine ( as said you are looking to keep the costs down so dont judge too much ) . I have seen some reviews here talking about a pervy waiter. This is Toni the owners son he is married with 3 children and dotes on them. He is a little shy and when we first ate here my wife said he kept looking down her top, so I watched him and noted he has a bit of a shy habit of looking down when he talks to you and did it to me and other male and female diners, I pointed this out to my wife and she watched him as well and confirmed the same so felt more comfortable and forgot all about it.
