Villa Rosa
Ranked #90 of 143 Sorrento B&B and Inns
Reviewed November 6, 2011

We stayed for three nights to see Sorrento and the sourroundings. The given map where B&B should be located was definitely wrong - it was right on the other side of town.

Welcome: unpolite, no help at all, door was finally opened after some time though evening time of arrival was announced.

Information: personally nothing (...though we do speak italian...) - even when asked. Only information was about the related restaurant. Paper information was older than one year!

Room: ok, spacious but not cleaned thouroughly

Breakfast: description and price says that breakfast is included. Well, indeed - there was a small basket with some crackers, nescoffee packages, tea and marmelade (see picture). "We do not serve breakfast, everything you need is in your kitchenette" - this was the only comment on this.

Price/value: not really worth the price, there are definitely better accomodations in Sorrento at the same price.

Of the six places we stayed at during our three weeks in Italy in September, 2011, Villa Rosa was the worst; indeed, it was the only one that I would rate negatively. The host, Fabio, is most unwelcoming, uninformative and generally unhelpful. "Gruff", as I've seen him described in another review, doesn't begin to cover it. All the rooms have kitchen areas (it is not a B&B; you prepare your own meals) and one of the first things I did after getting into our accommodation was squash a bug in the sink. Needless to say (but I'll say it anyways), we lost our appetite for eating in quite quickly after that experience. Otherwise the room we had was fine and the bathroom roomy but the street noise - from traffic, a nearby restaurant and a sports field across the road - was quite distracting, despite the roll-down shutters with which the windows are equipped. When we checked in, Fabio requested that we leave the room key at the front desk when we went out for the day. Did that once and came back much later to find the key still on the front desk, exactly where I had left it, and both the front door to the building and the gate to the street (which was equipped with an electric lock system) unlocked. Not very impressive. One thing in Villa Rose's favour is the price which, for its location, was very reasonable. As we were checking out, after a three night stay, I asked Fabio if he could recommend the best driving route out of Sorrento and got absolutely zero response, not even an acknowledgement that I had asked the question. The few positives about this place were handily outweighed by the negatives. We won't return.

Everything you hope for in a modest accommodation: immaculate, bright, great washroom, comfortable bed, oversized terrace, large, wi-fi, small refrigerator, air conditioning, secured parking, easy walking from train station (about 6 blocks) and action of town centre. We had room #5 on the second floor which had a queen-sized bed plus a double futon. There is a bar and restaurant across the street that can get noisy but it always stopped by 9:30 pm. There was a bit of street noise but not enough to keep us awake (the 2 french doors had shutters that helped). There was no breakfast but some packaged melba toast and jam in the room. The room was cleaned with fresh towels and linens twice per week (we stayed one week). The owner (Fabio) was a bit gruff but helpful.. I would definitely recommend this place and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Room #5 on the second floor had high ceilings, 2 french doors with a walkout to a very large terrace...

We spent three nights at Villa Rosa and it was perfect retreat from the hustle bustle of Sorrento. We booked two rooms on the first floor and they were a good size with spacious bathrooms. Each had a kitchenette so we could fix our own coffees and small meals. Also both rooms had terraces for lounging outside and drinking our wine and lemoncello. The hotel is spotlessly clean(the tiles gleam) and the beds were very comfortable. The street outside can be a little busy during the day but we found at night it gets very quiet and we had no trouble sleeping. The staff were friendly and there is a computer available for the guests in the lobby. A bonus is the restaurant across the street which has traditional food and great service. Overall a good experience and a place we would return to.

We were exteremely happy with our choice of Villa Rosa. The owner was very accommodating providing us with two very comfortable villas, as we only booked for one villa accommodating 3 people. Location excellent. Terriffic local restaurants, felt very relaxed here. Would reccommend Villa Rosa. Hope we can return one day.

The Villa Rosa is charming and lovely. We had a great stay in Sorrento. Our room was quite large with a kitchen, double bed, clean bathroom with shower, and a terrace right off the garden. We were able to regulate our room temperature, which was quite nice since we stayed in mid-March and it was a little chilly at night. The hotel is very close to the train station, bus stops, and a lovely walk passing an overlook and tons of lemon and orange trees to the main areas of shopping and dining. Our host, Fabio, was a little shy, but quite nice once you get to talking to him. He is not around much in the early morning, more so afternoons and evenings. This hotel does not come with breakfast but as we stated there was a kitchen in our room but we used the refrigerator only. We found an inexpensive supermarket and bought yogurt, orange juice, cheese, and crackers. We could have had tea or coffee and cooked on the stove top but we didn't want to cook. Right up the street there are a number of coffee places and bakeries and directly across the street is a lovely and delicious restaurant for dinner and Richard is the charming host. We took a walk to our left and found the charming city of San Agnello with a wonderful pizzeria/restaurant on the corner and had delicious pizza and salad all quite inexpensive. We took a day trip, by way of the Circumvesuviano train, to Pompeii. We did not visit Positano or the Amalfi Coast this trip, but highly recommend it.

We enjoyed our week at Villa Rosa very much. Our apartment was very clean, the facilities were good and spacious and our kitchenette was great to save money on a few meals. The caretaker was very helpful. The only slight negative was the street noise.

We would stay here again,
